Twin Guns is the first upgrade of Path 3 for the Monkey Sub in Bloons TD 6. It doubles attack speed of the dart attack from every 0.70s to every 0.35s. In addition, it improves attack speed of the Ballistic Missile attack by ~14% (0.875x attack cooldown), and improves the attack speed for the submerged attacks from Submerge and Support and above by ~43% (0.7x attack cooldown).

This upgrade costs $380 on Easy, $450 on Medium, $485 on Hard, and $540 on Impoppable.

Twin Guns

Twin Guns increases the number of barrels of the submarine to two. Most Subs already start with one barrel of a single gun, gaining a second barrel horizontally adjacent to the first, and distributed evenly in a horizontal direction to fit them both. However, Upper Path 1 Subs gain a pair of guns for each side of the submarine, one gun for each side, instead of having literally no visible gun.

Darts attack twice as fast, decreasing attack cooldown from every 0.70s to every 0.35s. In addition, it improves attack speed of the Ballistic Missile attack by ~14% (0.875x attack cooldown), and improves the attack speed for the submerged attacks from Submerge and Support and above by ~43% (0.7x attack cooldown).

Targeting Priorities[]

Twin Guns targets bloons using the standard targeting priorities. It shoots straight movement projectiles that can moderately seek at bloons.

  • First: Targets the first bloon visible within its range.
  • Last: Targets the last bloon visible within its range.
  • Close: Targets the closest bloon visible within its range.
  • Strong: Targets the strongest bloon visible within its range.

Adding Advanced Intel does not add Camo Prioritization, despite being a potential option for camo detection.

Strategy[]

Summary[]

Twin Guns improves the Monkey Sub's efficiency at soloing the first few rounds, as the doubled rate of shooting darts increases consistency of its attacks. Because of the Monkey Sub's base 2 pierce, it can shoot quite a number of homing darts before bloons start to exit its range. This makes a 0-0-1 Sub a popular upgrade in CHIMPS early-games. Even with the increased cost compared to two 0-0-0 Subs, the transition to a single 0-0-1 leads towards the cost-effective Airburst Darts upgrade if further early-game popping power is required.

Additionally, Twin Guns increases the rate of producing additional attacks, such as Submerge and Support's submerged pulses and Ballistic Missile's missiles, providing a general benefit to these attacks.

Tips[]

  • This upgrade is usually used as a stepping stone to the next upgrade, Airburst Darts.
  • Twin Guns is useful for early-game due to its relatively fast attack speed. In BTD6, this upgrade is far more useful due to each dart having 2 pierce each instead of 1, and combined with the homing pattern of Monkey Subs it makes the 0-0-1 Sub a powerful early-game tower.
  • With Barbed Darts, the multitudes of darts sent by the Sub may have an easier time to chase out bloons. However, buying Barbed Darts restricts the opportunity to get Advanced Intel, which is often the better crosspath.
  • The 3-0-1 Submerge and Support is just enough to improve its decamo reliability enough to consistently catch Camo Pinks if on a decent spot.

Incidentally, Twin Guns was also buffed when base Sub pierce got buffed in Version 7.0. Later on, crosspathing interactions with Twin Guns for alternate attacks were added, encouraging variety in crosspathing for non-dart attacks.

  • Twin Guns is the only Sub upgrade that changes neither the sub's colors nor the sailor's hat.
  • The Twin Guns upgrade changes the appearance for the Energizer and the Pre-Emptive Strike despite it being rare for tier 5 upgrades to change appearance when crosspathed.
