Bloons TD Battles Mobile and Bloons TD Battles Steam contain a Tutorial, which can be accessed through the Battle School tab. This tutorial is meant to teach the player the basics of Bloons TD Battles. When the player first opens Bloons TD Battles, they are prompted to enter the Tutorial.

The Tutorial is set on the track Park and is against Sergeant Monkey, an AI computer player. The player is given guidance throughout the game by the two monkeys that appear on the Bloons TD Battles Mobile splash screen. The player has Dart Monkey, Tack Shooter, and Bomb Tower, as well as the three starting Powers: Tower Boost, Bloon Boost, and White Hot Spikes.

Overview[]

Playervssergeant

The beginning of the Tutorial.

As the game begins, the player is given a brief overview of the rules of Assault Mode. They are then told to place a Dart Monkey in a white circle at the end of the inside grassy area closest to the water. As the first Bloon is popped, more information is displayed about cash and income. The player is then told to buy Sharp Shots on the Dart Monkey. Sergeant Monkey then places a Tack Shooter in an objectively bad spot near the top of the track.

After a short while, the player will have enough money to buy a Bomb Tower, which they are told to place in a white circle near the middle of the map. Sergeant Monkey's Tack Shooter always will let three Red Bloons past. The player is then told to send three sets of Red Bloons to increase their income and possibly leak some lives. The player is told to buy another Dart Monkey slightly above the first, and to upgrade both to Sharp Shots and Razor Sharp Shots.

The player is then left on their own for a short time. After the Red Bloons the player sent leak, Sergeant Monkey buys two 0-2 Dart Monkeys and two 0-2 Bomb Towers, and upgrades their Tack Shooter to Even Faster Shooting.

TutorialRound6

Round 6 of the Tutorial.

At the beginning of Round 6, the player will be advised to send Black Bloons to Sergeant Monkey as they rely mostly on Bomb Towers for defense. The player is told to send two sets of Black Bloons and then is told to get a Tack Shooter near the top of the map. They then are told to upgrade it to Even Faster Shooting. The easiest way to win the Tutorial is to send more Black Bloons after two sets are sent, as this will defeat Sargeant Monkey.

The player will be given tips about Regen Bloons at the beginning of Round 8. Sargeant Monkey will then buy two 0-2 Tack Shooters, another 0-2 Bomb Tower, and a 1-0 Sniper Monkey.

The player will be given tips about Lead and Camo Bloons on Round 10 and Round 12, respectively. Sergeant Monkey might lose some lives to the first natural Camo Bloon on Round 12, as they have no Camo detecting towers.

TutorialRound14

Round 14 of the Tutorial. Keep in mind that Triple Darts was bought on the Dart Monkeys without instruction to.

On Round 14, Sargeant Monkey will send Camo Yellow Bloons to the player. They are told to defend by upgrading the first two Dart Monkeys to Enhanced Eyesight and use a Tower Boost, before being told to send Camo Pink Bloons to Sargeant Monkey and use a Bloon Boost. As they don't have any Camo Detection, Sargeant Monkey is guaranteed to lose on Round 14. The player is also given enough money to send the Bloons if they are running low on cash at this point.

It is impossible to progress further in the Tutorial.

Transcript[]

Welcome to Bloons TD Battles! In Battles, you win if you reduce your opponent's lives to zero. In Assault Mode, you do this by sending Bloons past their defenses, and at the same time building a strong defense against their Bloons. Let's take you through the basics of the game.
In this tutorial you will take on a computer controlled opponent. Once the game starts, it only stops when you win or lose. The first round will start in a moment, so place a Dart Monkey in the circle.
In BTD Battles your towers will pop the Bloons going past. The Bloons keep getting stronger so you'll need to keep building up your defenses.
Cash is used to purchase towers and upgrades, but can also be used to send Bloons at your opponent.

Your cash is displayed here
You have an income value that is deposited into your cash every few seconds.

Your income is here.
You've got a bit of cash remaining, so select your Dart Monkey and upgrade him.
Great - that will hold the Bloons off for now.
Looks like you've got enough money to boost your defenses. Place a Bomb Tower in the circle.
Bomb towers are great for groups Bloons. In fact, each tower has strengths and weaknesses that you'll need to take advantage of to win.
Sending Bloons is an important part of Battles. Not only can you send Bloons to make your opponent lose lives, but sending Bloons will increase how much income you receive. Send a few groups of Red Bloons now.
You can see the Bloons you've selected in the queue. It's usually a good idea to send Bloons all game long to keep increasing your income, but make sure to keep enough money for your defenses.
Your opponent only has a Tack Shooter, and they haven't placed it somewhere to take advantage of its strengths. Your Red Bloons should get past!
You've got some extra cash. Why not build another dart monkey and upgrade them both two times on the right path?
Your defenses are solid, let's see how far we can go.
Sending stronger Bloons will cost you more, but increase your income more too. Black Bloons are resistant to explosions, so send a few to get past their bomb tower.
Very good! Try placing a Tack Shooter now, the part where the track loops around is best.
Upgrade it two times on the left path.
You can make any Bloons regen for increased price. Regen Bloons can be dangerous to players who cluster their defenses in one spot.
Lead Bloons are resistant to tacks and darts, but bomb towers can easily blow up the outer layer.
Camouflage Bloons cost three times the normal price, but they can only be seen by certain towers and upgrades, and can cause a lot of damage.
Oh no, your opponent has sent some Camo Bloons at you. Upgrade your dart monkeys on the left path!
Now let's try a power. Hit the tower boost button and your towers will fire faster for a short period of time.
Your opponent doesn't have any camo popping defenses. Let's see how they deal with some Camo Pink Bloons.
It's time to activate your second power. Bloon boost will speed up any Bloons which you send at your opponent. Try it now!
Awesome! You've won your first game. As you get better, so will your opponents. There's a lot to learn but there's also heaps of fun to be had.

It's time to take on a real challenge so let's go!

Trivia[]

  • Sergeant Monkey is given a disadvantage: they only have 50 lives while the player has 150 lives.
    • However, they use four tower types during the Tutorial, one more than the player is allowed.
  • It is possible to win as early as Round 4 by using Bloon Boosts while sending Blue and Pink Bloons.
  • On previous versions, it was possible to lose the Tutorial. The game would then soft-lock. The player was still told to do everything on Round 14, but their Bloons wouldn't send. The player could still place down towers and use boosts, but no Bloons would appear and the timer for the game and income would be frozen.[1]
    • On the current version, the player can still leak down to 1 life, but they will never go down to 0 lives, even if more Bloons leak.
  • When Powers were first added and the boost buttons were moved, the Tutorial arrows advising the player to boost were not moved, leaving them pointed at a blank area where the boosts used to be.
  • All unlocked upgrades transfer to the Tutorial. If the player has third/fourth tier upgrades for the Dart Monkey, Tack Shooter, or Bomb Tower, they will be able to get third/fourth tier upgrades.
  • If the player doesn't have enough money to buy towers/upgrades or send Bloons when told to, the game will give the player some money.
  • If the player used up all their Tower and Bloon Boosts by Round 14, the game will reset the boost count to 3 and reset cooldowns.
  • The player cannot sell the towers they were told to place, including the two Dart Monkeys, the Bomb Tower, and the Tack Shooter.
  • The player will be prevented from placing a tower in the spot where the player is told to place a Tack Shooter until when they are told so.

Exploits[]

The Tutorial contains several exploits. Some the player can take advantage of, while some will softlock or crash the game.

  • When Round 1 begins, the player can trigger the messages to appear by popping the first Bloon with White Hot Spikes. Bloons do not have to be popped by the Dart Monkey.
  • When the player is told to upgrade the Tack Shooter on Round 6 and the Dart Monkeys on Round 14, the game doesn't check whether the towers being upgraded are the intended ones. Therefore, when the player is told to upgrade a tower, they can upgrade a different one instead of the same type.
    • The player will be forced to upgrade the correct Dart Monkeys as well, however.
    • Furthermore, the game doesn't check what upgrades are bought, just the tiers. A third tier upgrade can be bought and count toward one of the needed upgrades.
    • It is possible to buy an unintended upgrade (or an intended one, on a different tower) and not have enough money left over to finish the task. If this occurs, the game is soft-locked.
      • This can occur on Round 6 by getting a 2-0 Tack Shooter beforehand and not have enough money to upgrade the intended one. When the game gives the player money to afford the upgrades, they can buy Tack Sprayer and not have enough money for any other 1st tier upgrade.
      • This can also occur on Round 14 by having a Dart Monkey beforehand (un-upgraded on the first path) and not have enough money to upgrade the intended ones. When the game gives the player money to afford the upgrades, they can upgrade one of the intended Dart Monkeys and the unintended Dart Monkey instead to 2-0, leaving them with not enough money for the other intended Dart Monkey's upgrades.
