Turbo Charge ability: Makes this Monkey attack incredibly fast for 10 seconds.
~ In-game description

Turbo Charge is the fourth upgrade of Path 2 for the Boomerang Monkey in Bloons TD 6. It comes with an ability that allows it to attack 7x faster than normal and deal +1 damage for 10 seconds (15 seconds with LongTurboIcon Long Turbo), with a cooldown of 45 seconds. While the ability is active, it shoots every 0.034s. All its boomerangs will always deal +2 damage to MOAB-class compared to the base tower, as it inherits properties from Bionic Boomerang.

If the BionicAugmentationIcon Bionic Augmentation MK is active, Turbo Charge's ability will be able to pop Camo Bloons.

This upgrade costs $3,570 on Easy, $4,200 on Medium, $4,535 on Hard, and $5,040 on Impoppable.

Description[]

Overview[]

Tcharge bfb

Turbo Charge activated ability against a BFB

Turbo Charge gains a black suit with yellow stripes, a much larger boomerang launcher on its hand, marked with two green chevron-shaped lights rather than rectangles, and adds a vent-like extension to the lens over its eye.

The boomerangs it fires are now dark grey with black stripes. While the Turbo Charge ability is active, its boomerangs leave behind a green trail.

Crosspathing with path 1 colors the stripes red, then cyan, and it fires glaives when given the upgrade of the same name. Crosspathing with path 2 gives it red gloves and gives the stripes an orange lining.

Turbo Charge gains the eponymous Turbo Charge ability, which grants +1 damage (2, 4 vs MOABs) and 7x attack speed (0.034s attack cooldown) for 10 seconds, with a cooldown of 45 seconds.

Turbo Charge Ability

Turbo Charge gains an activated ability that allows it to attack 7x faster and deal +1 damage for the duration of the ability. Duration is 10 seconds with a cooldown of 45 seconds. As a Primary Monkey ability, it can benefit from cooldown reduction buffs from Primary Mentoring and Primary Expertise. Turbo Charge's ability is purely duration-oriented, making it unable to be reactivated if the ability is already active.

Targeting Priorities[]

Turbo Charge targets bloons using the standard targeting priorities. It shoots curved movement projectiles.

  • First: Targets the first bloon visible within its range.
  • Last: Targets the last bloon visible within its range.
  • Close: Targets the closest bloon visible within its range.
  • Strong: Targets the strongest bloon visible within its range.

Like all Boomerang Monkeys, Turbo Charge can access Change Hands secondary targeting priority to switch hands, changing the origin and direction of the boomerangs.

Strategy[]

Summary[]

Turbo Charge is a great option for dealing insane damage against tougher mid-game rounds, specifically rounds with moderate bloon density or if there are strong MOAB-class bloons. When along a location with good curves, a single use of the Turbo Charge ability can make quick work off various difficult rounds, especially when paired with the Glaives crosspath for the extra pierce. Correct ability timing is necessary though, as it becomes weak again once the ability ends.

To fully maximize its potential, besides good placement, support it with backup defense while its ability is under cooldown, especially towers designed for countering grouped bloons. Because the Turbo Charge already comes with +2 MOAB-class damage and the ability grants +1 damage while the ability is active, even one activated Turbo Charge is capable of soloing up to BFBs while the ability is active, but it struggles heavily versus densely grouped bloons such as Round 63. Turbo Charge benefits well from the benefits of Primary Mentoring, most particularly the reduced ability cooldowns, and is worth adding Radar Scanner for camo detection. A really good hero to pair with is Gwendolin, as her abilities provide both effective grouped bloon damage and damage versus earlier Camo Bloon rounds.

Tips[]

  • Usually, 2-4-0 is better than 0-4-2 because the Glaives upgrade grants extra pierce, compared to +1 damage and remaining at a small pierce. There are some cases where 0-4-2 is more favorable, specifically versus single-target bloons such as the Round 100 BAD, and also on certain maps such as Geared and Infernal where the bonus range can make a bigger difference.
  • Like Bionic Boomerang, place Turbo Charge around a good curve, in order to maximize its many fast-shooting boomerangs.
  • Pair a Turbo Charge with good grouped bloon damage, such as Gwendolin (with her abilities) and 2-0-4 Recursive Cluster. In this way, Turbo Charge will have a much easier time handling with more powerful bloons, as well as giving it backup while the ability is under cooldown.
  • The LongTurboIcon Long Turbo MK makes its ability last 5 seconds longer, from 10 seconds to 15 seconds.
  • As with Bionic Boomerang, the RecurringRangsIcon Recurring 'Rangs MK is exceedingly effective with this upgrade, particularly while the ability is active, leading to significantly more boomerangs being relaunched.

Version History[]

Balance Changes[]

Turbo Charge is stronger than it did when it was first released. Alongside inheriting the Bionic Boomerang's MOAB-class damage bonus, the Turbo Charge attack speed buff has been increased, making the ability even better at destroying both bloons and MOAB-class.

Version 26.0 intended to make 2-4-0 a purely pierce path while equalizing 0-4-2's speed to the 2-4-0 path, but ended up nerfing 2-4-0 until Version 27.0 fixed this.

Initial release (compared to BTD5)
  • NERF Turbo Charge cost increase ($3000 → $4000)
  • BUFF Turbo Charge ability can increase Damage (1 → 2)
  • Change Several changes in path placement of the upgrades; some upgrades are moved to different paths. This allows for more options with the first two middle path upgrades but means that both upgrade and higher can no longer have both at once.
8.0
  • BUFF Bionic Boomerang damage to MOAB-class increased by +1. Also affects Turbo Charge.
8.1
  • BUFF The +1 damage to MOABs for Bionic Boomerang now (correctly) applies to all MOAB-class bloons
12.0
  • BUFF Turbo Charge ability attack speed buff increased (5x → 7x)
22.0
26.0
  • NERF [unintentional bug] Turbo Charge attack speed has not scaled with the base Boomerang Monkey buffs, causing 2-4-0 to become indirectly nerfed.

Trivia[]

  • Turbo Charge is one of the few upgrades returning from BTD5 that were formerly visually the same as the preceding upgrades, the others being Super Range, Call to Arms, Long Life Bananas, and Valuable Bananas.
    • It does have a unique design in Bloons TD 5 Deluxe, which matches the tower portrait shown there. So it technically doesn't count.
  • The interpretation of the 26.0 base Boomerang buffs was different among the community. Other experts believed that the Bionic Boomerang (and subsequently later upgrades) was unaffected by the 26.0 rework, while Bloons Wiki interpreted this as an inherited buff. This was later proven in favor of the other experts with the 27.0 Bionic Boomerang buff, which is actually a bug fix listed as a balance change.
