  • I would like a bot to add categories to Tier 1 to Tier 5 upgrades. I have created the categories for the Tier 1 to Tier 5 upgrades, but due to not wanting to do excessively repetitive tasks, I would like a bot to add categories to all known BTD5 and BTD6 upgrades.

So for the BTD6 category-adding stuff, we could start off with BTD6 Dart Monkey. Sharp Shots, Quick Shots, and Long Range Darts will given Category:Tier 1 Upgrades, Razor Sharp Shots, Very Quick Shots, and Enhanced Eyesight will be given Category:Tier 2 Upgrades, etc. And then we go to the next tower Boomerang Monkey, with their respective article category updations, all the way to Monkey Village.

And then for the BTD5 category-adding stuff, we do the same process except for BTD5 towers.

I believe these instructions won't be too hard to code in.

    • Hi, adding similar categories to upgrade pages sounds like a good idea.

I believe we should create separate categories for BTD5 and BTD6, as one upgrade can be for example tier 2 in BTD5 while being tier 1 in BTD6, so it could be categories such as "Category:BTD5 Tier 1 Upgrades".

Sadly, I have no way how to categorize the upgrade pages with bot, as I have no way how to automatically identify what tier the particular upgrade is.

    • You’ll have to manually determine which upgrade tiers for each upgrade. The tedious part comes from pressing the category button over and over again.

Also, perhaps we could ask our nice Wikia user about this technical question of how to make the bot do category stuffs.

    • Adding a category to a list of pages is not problem. The issue is about describing what exactly for example "page about tier 1 upgrade in BTD5" is.

    • If by what you're describing is an issue with which upgrade page should receive what categories, I guess we should manually list in the categories. If there is a way for the bot operator to list a bunch of pages that need addition of specific upgrades for the bot to implement in, that would be nice. It would ideal if the bot is programmed to semi-automatically insert the Tier X Upgrades category(s) onto specified BTD5 and BTD6 upgrade pages; the main reason why I was asking for bot request in the first place is because I don't want to do the unnecessary massed edits on the wiki.

As for a list, I will be in process of making the giant list, but it will take me a lot of time to create it.

    • Here is a BTD5 example of a list of upgrades:

Tower Name Tier 1 Tier 2 Tier 3 Tier 4
Dart Monkey Long Range Darts Enhanced Eyesight Spike-O-Pult Juggernaut
Sharp Shots Razor Sharp Shots Triple Darts Super Monkey Fan Club
Tack Shooter Faster Shooting Even Faster Shooting Tack Sprayer Ring of Fire
Long Range Tacks Super Range Tacks Blade Shooter Blade Maelstrom

And here is a BTD6 example of a list of upgrades, with some upgrades overlapping with BTD5 or not:

      Tower Name Tier 1 Tier 2 Tier 3 Tier 4 Tier 5
Dart Monkey Sharp Shots Razor Sharp Shots Spike-O-Pult Juggernaut Ultra-Juggernaut
Quick Shots Very Quick Shots Triple Shot Super Monkey Fan Club Plasma Monkey Fan Club
Long Range Darts Enhanced Eyesight Crossbow Sharp Shooter Crossbow Master
Tack Shooter Faster Shooting Even Faster Shooting Hot Shots Ring of Fire Inferno Ring
Long Range Tacks Super Range Tacks Blade Shooter Blade Maelstrom Super Maelstrom
More Tacks Even More Tacks Tack Sprayer Overdrive The Tack Zone

Here are some example analysis on implementing the category business:

      1. Upgrades appearing in both BTD5 and BTD6 that have the same tier ranks, even if different paths (e.g. Razor Sharp Shots), will receive only one tier category.
      2. Upgrades that only appear in BTD5 or BTD6 and resemble nothing similar to any upgrade that would appear in the predecessor/successor game (e.g. Sonic Boom in BTD5, as it only grants frozen-popping as a singular upgrade, or Caltrops in BTD6, as no Ninja Monkey featured Spike Factory properties in BTD5) will not require special category rules.
      3. Upgrades with overlapping upgrade similarity names but with the same page (e.g. Triple Darts against Triple Shot in the case of BTD5 vs BTD6) will be treated as a single page, and thus will be treated like #5.
      4. Upgrades that happen to have its own independent page, regardless of whether it was very similar to a particular BTD5 variant (e.g. Pineapple Present/Exploding Pineapple, Temple of the Monkey God/Sun Temple), as separate pages both receive the respective upgrade tier categories.
      5. Upgrades with differing tier ranks in BTD5 and BTD6 (e.g. Glaive Lord) receive two tier categories. If in the case of upgrades that were replaced a pre-existing role in BTD6 as another upgrade (e.g. Maim MOAB replacing old role of Cripple MOAB), add two upgrade tier upgrade categories for the BTD5 upgrade and one for the BTD6 replacer.

Perhaps try looking up on the Template:Upgrades BTD1-BTD5 and Template:Upgrades BTD6 navboxes so that you could apply each page with a particular assigned category(s).

    • For starters, we should find all the articles that have Category:Bloons TD 6 but not Category:Bloons TD 5. The upgrade infoboxes of most BTD6-exclusive upgrade pages (by which should be defined by the priorly mentioned sentence) probably would consistently have either the words "Path X" or "X" (where "X" is a number between 1 and 3, mutually inclusive) on the "Path" statistic section of the infobox.

    • Thanks for the tip with the templates. The upgrades are systematically ordered there, so it will be easy to generate the list of pages from the templates.

Anyways, creating any exceptions in the category system will make the categorizing process too complicated and impossible to automatize, and also a future maintenance will be more difficult.

So, I will simply categorize each like like this:

      Sharp Shots · Razor Sharp Shots · Spike-o-pult · Juggernaut · Ultra-Juggernaut
      into
      tier 1 · tier 2 · tier 3 · tier 4 · tier 5

Yep. That sounds like a good plan. Remind me when you've done with adding the category stuffs. Just a reminder that the categories are Category:Tier X Upgrades, where X is a number between 1-5.

    • Hi, I'm running the auto-categorizing right now.

I'm adding the categories like "BTD5 Tier 1 Upgrades". Personally, I find no purpose in a category like "Tier 1 Upgrades" as the fact the upgrade is tier 1 somewhere has basically no valuable information to me. The same with categories "Path 1 upgrades" or "Final upgrades" which I would like to rework too.

Anyways, if you want me to add the categories like "Tier 1 Upgrades", let me know. Now, it will be easier to add it, as I can simply add "Tier 1 Upgrades" category to pages in categories "BTD5 Tier 1 Upgrades" and "BTD6 Tier 1 Upgrades".

    • BTW, links on the templates are not as accurate as we thought. Several links are redirects, which is not a problem as I basically skip redirects with AWB, but several links lead to disambig pages, so the bot accidentally categorized them. I tried to fix them manually after I noticed it, but I may have missed some.
