Sun Temple upgrading warning on Sun Avatar

Sun Temple is the 4th upgrade on Path 1 of the Super Monkey in Bloons TD Battles 2. Like in previous games, the Sun Temple relies on sacrifices to attain maximized damage and support potential. However, in BTDB2, its sacrifices are significantly weaker, although also significantly cheaper than those in BTD6. Additionally, the base sunbeam deals 6 damage instead of 5.

It costs $80,000, ignoring sacrifices. It is unlocked with the purchase of Super Monkey.

Sacrifices[]

The actual new stats and attacks received for tiers of sacrifices are different compared to BTD6. Instead of various tiers, it's just a single max tier of $15,000?

Primary
  • $15,000: Increases pierce by X%.
  • $15,000: Increases attack speed by about 11.1% (0.9x attack cooldown).
  • $15,000: Fires a ring of 8 golden blades every 0.X seconds while attacking that deal 20 damage each with X pierce.
Military
  • $15,000: Adds a golden missile that deals X (around 100 damage) damage with TBA pierce every X seconds.
  • $15,000: Grants +1 MOAB damage to all towers in range of the temple.
Magic
  • $15,000: Adds a guided magic projectiles that deal X damage and have X pierce every X seconds.
  • $15,000: Adds a supertornado attack resembling Superstorm that does not summon ball lightnings. Attacks every X seconds.
Support
  • $15,000: Grants a 5% discount to all towers in range of the temple.
  • $15,000: Grants +X range boost to all towers in range of the temple.
  • $15,000: Increases the attack speed of al towers in range of the temple by about 17.6% (0.85x attack cooldown).
  • $15,000: Spawns 3 crates that can be collected for $2,000 each ($6,000 total) at the start of each round.
  • $15,000: Grants the temple and all towers in range camo detection.

Strategy[]

Summary[]

A largely impractical tower except to assert defensive prowess under large amounts of cash. Sacrifices in this game are currently hardly researched by the Battles 2 community due to its impracticality, particularly because the Temple is outclassed by spamming other powerful towers (e.g. Dark Champion). Its only real use currently is creating superstorm-like supertornadoes given by Magic sacrifices.

Tips[]

  • The temple is very impractical outside of Play With Fire, in which it can be used either as a stepping stone towards the True Sun God or as a support tower to blow back DDTs and ZOMGs, although the latter role is very unreliable without any major attack speed boosts.
  • Another synergy would be to use it with Monkey Intelligence Bureau to allow the spamming of many base supers under the influence of both a support temple and MIB, acting as super cheap dark knights that lack innate knockback without crosspaths. This is very unrealistic to achieve under typical circumstances, but it does work.
  • Crosspathing plays a role in the overall DPS of the Sun Temple and its general effectiveness. Since full Magic sacrifices already add a source of knockback in the form of the Superstorm's super tornado blowback, the 4-0-2 isn't as beneficial as it seems aside from the innate camo detection. 4-2-0 gives maximum range and pierce benefits, which helps the Sun Temple reach its optimal DPS.
  • While the Sun Temple itself has no innate camo detection, another Sun Temple with full Support sacrifices can support that Sun Temple because the Support sacrifices allows the Sun Temple to grant camo detection to nearby towers.

We have made significant adjustments to a lot of Super Monkey’s upgrades, as we feel like Super Monkey is not and has never been properly balanced for this game. While its main strength is its late game and we want to keep it that way, we do not think it should be to the extent where it has almost no use in the early/mid game. Therefore, we are making some pretty big price cuts to the early tiers, while adjusting the tier 3s to balance out these price cuts so that they don’t become too strong. A lot of the higher tiers have either been too expensive or too inefficient to have any practical use in ranked matches, and we want to change that. [...] True Sun God (without sacrifices) was actually incredibly weak for its extreme price tag, with a lot of its strength coming from the weapons/buffs it receives and provides from sacrifices. We wanted to shift more of its strength to the vanilla weapon, as it should always be a powerful tower given its hefty price. Therefore, in addition to a giant price buff, we have increased its damage while weakening some of the strongest sacrifice benefits. [...]

3.3
  • NERF Sun Temple Support Sacrifices no longer provide +1 damage
No balance changes for Super Monkey, although note that there is a bugfix which is impactful on balance - 4/5xx with support sacrifices will no longer provide towers in range with +1 damage. 4xx with support sacrifices was an extremely cost effective upgrade due to this bug, so we have fixed this without changing anything else.

Trivia[]

  • Starting from Version 3.1, the old cost of the Sun Temple upgrade alone was instead put onto Legend of the Night, and the new Sun Temple lone upgrade cost is the same as the Ray of Doom as of that aforementioned v3.1 update.
