Adds Submerge targeting option that permanently reveals Camo bloons in its radius but does not attack while submerged.
~ In-game description

Submerge and Support is the third upgrade of Path 1 for the Monkey Sub in Bloons TD 6. Once purchased, the Monkey Sub will gain a new targeting option "Submerge" and will automatically become submerged. While set on "Submerge" targeting, it cannot attack with darts, but instead it produces a regular no-damage radar attack that decamos Camo Bloons (including DDTs) every 1.5s (1.05s with Twin Guns). The decamo pierce is 100, and increases by +50 with Barbed Darts.

This upgrade costs $595 on Easy, $700 on Medium, $755 on Hard, and $840 on Impoppable.

Description[]

Overview[]

Placeholder other

Submerge and Support

The submarine gains a widescreen glass rim at the front, gains a periscope peeking upwards, and by default comes with no visible guns. The monkey loses its hat and is now inside the submarine facing the submarine's glass rim.

With Path 2 crosspaths, the periscope lens is red instead of green with Barbed Darts, and also the glass rim becomes red if given Heat-tipped Darts. With Path 3 crosspaths, the submarine gains twin guns if given Twin Guns, and a yellow paintwork on the sides of the submarine with Airburst Darts.

In the upgrade portrait, the monkey looks through the glass rim with awe.

Submerge and Support gains the Submerge targeting option. When submerged, it replaces all its normal attacks with a no-damage radar attack that decamos all Camo Bloons within range, and cycles that pulse regularly. The radar attack has 100 pierce, +50 with Barbed Darts. It perpetually cycles every 1.5s (1.05s with Twin Guns).

Targeting Priorities[]

Submerge and Support targets bloons using the standard targeting priorities, but also receives the Submerge targeting option. Its main attack while unsubmerged shoots straight movement projectiles that can moderately seek at bloons.

  • Submerge: Submerges the submarine, letting it create only submersible attacks instead of its other attacks. Initially gains only decamo, but can also gain additional benefits upon upgrading. When given Bloontonium Reactor or Energizer, the submarine gains an AoE effect that decamos and pops bloons.
  • First: Targets the first bloon visible within its range.
  • Last: Targets the last bloon visible within its range.
  • Close: Targets the closest bloon visible within its range.
  • Strong: Targets the strongest bloon visible within its range.

The radar attack is considered a zone-based attack, and defaults on Close for pierce calculation purposes.

Strategy[]

Summary[]

The second-cheapest form of camo countermeasures is the use of Submerge and Support to strip camo properties. Although it deals no damage while submerged, its decamo power is reliable compared to its exceptionally low price. Because of how cost-effective it is, even one Submerge and Support can be used as the sole anti-camo option for an entire game on easier maps. However, since it only does decamo while submerged, it may be replaced by Radar Scanner for not only 100% consistent anti-camo, but for Radar Scanners other support abilities, such as M.I.B. and Jungle Drums or discounts, or it can be upgraded into Bloontonium Reactor.

It is a lot more versatile compared to other anti-camo options, as it can be crosspathed with alternate upgrades for extra value specifically while unsubmerged, specifically Path 2 for the Heat-tipped Darts upgrade to pop early Leads, and Path 3 for the unsubmerged extra damage output from Airburst Darts with the added benefit of quicker decamo rates while submerged. Not only that, a submerged Submerge and Support Sub pairs well with Lead to Gold and Rubber to Gold, as a submerged Submerge and Support Sub can decamo bloons without dealing damage, allowing the Lead/Rubber to Gold to affect a lot more bloons for profit.

Tips[]

  • For most cases, 3-0-2 is better than 3-2-0, as the Path 2 crosspaths provide only a minor pierce increase for the sonar attack. However, it is usually adequate just to stick with 3-0-0 unless it is for decamoing bloons faster once it becomes necessary, particularly against faster camo bloons.
    • 3-2-0 is an option if 4-2-0 is desired for lead-popping later.
  • In certain spots on certain maps, Submerge and Support can decamo all bloons throughout the game.
    • Note that the Bloontonium Reactor can reveal camo bloons more reliably and deal damage to them.
  • In a pinch, it is possible to unsubmerge the sub to use its main attack.
  • Constantly changing the targeting option between Submerge and any other targeting option can reset allow the attacks to begin manually, but this does not reset the cooldowns of any of its attacks.
  • Beware of Round 100 if Submerge and Support is the only decamo tower as the DDTs can spawn in an unfavourable spot for the Sub.
  • The Submerge and Support is a good option to start of a game of 2 MegaPops. After setting up defenses, submerge the sub to reveal camo while not stealing pops and unsubmerge to attack when needed.
  • Be careful when using Submerge and Support in combination with towers that do bonus damage to camo bloons, such as x-2-x Monkey Ace, x-1-x Sniper Monkey, or level 19 See Invisibility Potion, as removing the camo property will cause them to lose the bonus damage as well. This can be especially important in strategies that utilize this damage bonus.

Version History[]

Balance Changes[]

Submerge and Support was both buffed and nerfed, mainly for crosspath purposes. It now gains speed for its submerge decamo rate for Path 3 crosspathing, and pierce via Path 2. However, it was nerfed to now have limited decamo pierce.

18.0
  • BUFF Submerge and Support has more range (50 → 52)
  • BUFF 3-0-1 Submerge and Support Sub gains increased pulse rate (1.5s → 1.275s)
  • BUFF 3-0-2 Submerge and Support Sub gains increased pulse rate (1.5s → 0.95625s)
32.0
Similar types of camo reveal like Shimmer/Signal Flare/Embrittlement are all pierce limited, but the Submerge sub has practically infinite pierce while also being extremely cheap with a very fast rate and a T4 that is far better at camo removal than those other towers can reach. Giving this upgrade a more reasonable pierce value brings these more in line and allows for the pierce crosspath to have some potential meaning.

  • NERF 3-0-x Submerge and Support decamo pulse pierce reduced infinite to 100
  • NERF 3-1-0 Submerge and Support decamo pulse pierce reduced infinite to 120
  • NERF 3-2-0 Submerge and Support decamo pulse pierce reduced infinite to 150
41.0
We have come back a number of times to add, fix & balance sub crosspathing, over years of learning though it currently feels messy and we'd like simplification. Heat-Tipped Darts doesn't increase base sub pierce, so it feels silly to require it for maximum pierce on Submerged subs. Likewise Airburst shouldn't be required to maximize the rate of submerged subs, instead we'd rather give people an easier way to work with the Airburst attack if they desire to upgrade to it so 'Submerge' is moving to a new Tower Special rather than target priority. ~ Ninja Kiwi
  • NERF Submerge and Support cost increased from $500 to $700
  • Change Submerge and Support's "Submerge" targeting option is now a button activated by "Tower Special" instead of within the main targeting priorities
  • BUFF 3-1-0 Submerge and Support decamo pierce increased 120 to 150, matching 3-2-0.
  • BUFF 3-0-1 Submerge and Support decamo attack cooldown reduction multiplier increased from 0.85x to 0.70x. Total attack speed bonus increased from +17.6% to +42.9%.
  • NERF 3-0-2 Submerge and Support no longer reduces attack cooldown of the decamo by 0.75x. Total cumulative attack speed bonus reduced from +56.86% to +42.9%.
41.1
  • NERF Submerge and Support's Submerge button now has a 1s cooldown.

Bug Fixes and General Changes[]

24.0

  • Submerge toggle now has cooldown art

Extra Notes (Version History)[]

Bugs[]

Current
  • [???] The visual indicator in the buffs section above a tower inconsistently displays the submerged and unsubmerged buffs. Additionally, sometimes, the bug shows both sprites indicating a submerged and unsubmerged buff. This bug has been known since 12.0 and occurs as of 14.0.
  • [41.0] While retrying the game when the sub is submerged, the sub will lose the Submerge button, making the sub unable to float.

Trivia[]

  • Despite being a "Decamo Tower" Submerge and Support is not a Camo-Detecting tower. Its dart attacks can only attack Camo Bloons after the Camo status has been removed. In addition, Submerge and Support does not provide remote camo-detection range for Advanced Intel Subs.
  • In BTD6, this upgrade automatically submerges the Monkey Sub, while in the BTD5 generation it did not.
  • 3-0-0 Submerge and Support is the second-cheapest decamo tower ($1455 on Medium), second to Counter-Espionage ($1350 on Medium).
  • On Flooded Valley, a submerged Submerge and Support placed on the left side, if that side is flooded, will not submerge fully. This means the exact crosspath for a certain Submerged and Support can be distinguishable.
  • A popular meme, at least in 2018 and 2019, called the "Angry Sub", the 3-2-0, has been made popular by r/btd6 and other BTD6 communities. This is mostly attributed to the crosspathing models for that crosspath.
    • On the Version 29.0 patch notes for Bloontonium Reactor's nerfs, Ninja Kiwi acknowledges the aforementioned fan term, except for the 4-2-0 Sub.
