Striker Jones is a strong Commander who uses his knowledge of long range combat to greatly boost the power of explosives.

Striker Jones is a Hero in Bloons TD 6 who specializes in military weaponry. He's unable to pop camo, and mainly supports Bomb Shooters and Mortar Monkeys. He is also unable to pop Black Bloons until level 5, which gives explosives a 50% chance to pop Bloons with Black Bloon properties. When he reaches at least Level 19, the Black Bloon property is fully nullified while he is on the map; thereby allowing any explosive projectile to damage Black Bloons, Zebra Bloons, and DDTs.

He costs $595 on Easy, $700 on Medium, $755 on Hard, and $840 on Impoppable. If Hero Favors is enabled, Striker Jones will cost $545 on Easy, $640 on Medium, $690 on Hard, and $770 on Impoppable.

He was part of the initial release of the game (alongside Quincy, Gwendolin and Obyn Greenfoot).

Upgrades[]

Striker Jones will start upgrading himself every round upon placement. He earns more XP each round to unlock his next upgrade irrespective of how many bloons he pops. His upgrades can also be immediately bought with cash, though the amount of cash required to purchase the next upgrade will typically increase as the upgrades get higher, making self-upgrading an important element for his overall power.

He levels at 1x speed, like all base heroes (Quincy, Gwendolin, Striker Jones, Obyn Greenfoot) and Etienne.

Striker Jones has three activated abilities: Concussive Shell (Level 3+), Target Focus (Level 7+), and Artillery Command (Level 10+).

Concussive Shell Ability[]

Concussive Shell Ability

His first ability, Concussive Shell, allows him to shoot a guided shell at the strongest stunnable Bloon onscreen, stunning it and neighboring bloons on impact, with a shorter duration versus MOAB-class bloons. The Concussive Shell has moderate homing and lasts for a very long time before expiring.

Initially, the Concussive Shell deals 2 damage onto up to 48 bloons within 27 blast radius, can damage any bloon type, and stuns affected bloons for 1 second. At Level 9+, Concussive Shell pierce increases from 48 to 58, damage increased from 2 to 12, and stun duration increased from 1 second to 3 seconds on MOAB-class bloons and 5 seconds on everything else. Level 14+ further boosts the power of the Concussive Shell; 40.5 blast radius, and the stun lasts for 4.5s for MOAB-class and 7.5s for other bloons.

Cooldown of 16 seconds, 11 seconds if Level 15+.

Target Focus Ability[]

Target Focus Ability

Target Focus causes all Mortar Monkeys to follow and target the cursor instead of their targeted points, and also increases their accuracy by 30%. Once the ability ends, the Mortars will snap back to their original targets. A Mortar can break out of this ability early by setting a new target. The effect lasts for 15 seconds. Cooldown of 45 seconds. Cannot be activated if there are no Mortar Monkeys on screen.

This ability was added since Version 39.0, as Ninja Kiwi's way to allow the possibility to control large quantities of Mortars to target sychronously with user interactions.

Artillery Command Ability[]

Artillery Command Ability

Artillery Command instantly resets all ability cooldowns of all Bomb Shooters and Mortar Monkeys on screen. Level 20 makes this ability also double the damage and pierce of all Bomb Shooters and Mortar Monkeys on screen for 10 seconds. Artillery Command cannot be activated if there are no Bomb Shooters or Mortar Monkeys on screen, and until Level 20 the ability cannot be activated if neither type of tower has an activated ability, including Bomb Blitz's passive ability.

Cooldown for the ability is 80 seconds.

Strategy[]

Summary[]

Striker Jones is a versatile hero, able to incorporate into multiple strategies, particularly those centered around Bomb Shooters and Mortar Monkeys: his Level 4+ and 18+ buffs to attack speed, Level 8+ localized Bomb pierce-and-range bonuses and Level 7+ Mortar blast radius are all significant buffs that increase Bomb and Mortar viability into later rounds. Jones' Concussive Shell ability and his debuffs to Black, Zebra and DDT bloons allow

Striker Jones' optimal strategy is MOAB Mauler spam: Recursive Cluster Bomb Shooters are used to deal with grouped bloons while large numbers of MOAB Maulers are deployed for extreme DPS to MOAB-class bloons, often paired with Ceramic cleanup methods such as Bloon Impact and Spiked Balls. MOAB Assassins and the MOAB Eliminator fulfill significant roles at demolishing stronger MOAB-class bloons in the later rounds.

Striker Jones additionally works well in combination with Mortars. He is very synergetic with Pop and Awe, fulfilling a variety of roles to maximize its ability update, speed up its attacks, and even boost its damage via stun benefits and his Level 20 Artillery Command to double its damage. When paired with The Biggest One, its damage and blimp-stalling potential can be very powerful in conjunction with his Level 20 Artillery Command, wiping out even the densest of rounds such as Round 98 if timed correctly. Also, his Target Focus ability allows coordination of multiple Mortars at once to accurately target according to the pointer.

Striker Jones' Concussive Shell ability is extremely powerful; being able to stun strong early game bloons, obliterate ceramic waves in midgame, and becoming an easily spammable high-pierce and radial stun. Concussive Shell is the main reason why he can be incorporated into so many strategies, as the stun is so powerful that even if he doesn't directly synergize with the other towers, he can still be very effective.

Target Focus ability, being exclusive to Mortars, is only beneficial to Mortars; however, it is a powerful tool for coordinating multiple Mortars at once with minimal micro required, especially in combination with multiple Artillery Batterys.

Striker Jones' Artillery Command ability isn't used often, but it can be extremely powerful in conjunction with MOAB Assassins or a Pop and Awe, as their powerful abilities being able to be used twice in a row is an extremely effective source of strong burst damage (in the case of MOAB Assassins) or stalling (Pop and Awe).

Jones is also good in combination with Apache Prime. Since Striker Jones' level 5 and 19 debuffs to Black bloons allow the Apache Prime's missiles to affect DDTs, it helps the Apache Prime to more easily take them down.

In fact, the previously mentioned debuff to Black Bloons means he does well with almost any explosive tower that does not have attacks with the Normal damage type to damage DDTs. For this reason, he can essentially replace a M.I.B. for any explosive tower and help to save up some cash.

Striker Jones works extremely well with an existing MOAB Glue and Double MOAB Press combo. With the combined stalling power of Jones' concussive shell, the knockback kylies and MOAB Glue, they can completely stall large amounts of MOAB-class bloons, giving your defense a good amount of time to pop super-dense rounds such as 96 and 98.

Tips[]

  • Striker Jones is mostly support-oriented. The majority of his power comes from his buffs and abilities, especially synergies with explosives.
  • His early-game role is mostly a source of adequate popping power versus early grouped bloons.
  • Striker Jones' level 20 Artillery Command only doubles Bomb Shooters' and Mortar Monkeys' base damage and pierce, and does not affect other buffs beyond the existing Level 10 Artillery Command's benefits.
  • Position Striker Jones such that he will provide the most range coverage at a location where the main damage would eventually be done at. This is especially the case for MOAB Mauler spam on distant-lane multi-lane maps such as Muddy Puddles and Bloody Puddles, and try placing him where nearby Bomb Shooters can cover the lane where Round 98 moves at. If done properly, his local range buffs and pierce buffs for Bomb Shooters will benefit everso slightly and can turn the tides of a tight defense.
  • Try to time Concussive Shell where the strongest bloons would reach a corner, maximizing pierce within the blast, while at the same time using the Concussive Shell as often as possible.
  • His Level 8+ local buff granting bonus percentage pierce and range is beneficial for towers that rely largely on pierce, plus a little more range as a bonus. While mostly catered for Bomb Shooters, most of these benefits are impactful for boosting pierce of towers that already have high pierce as well as squeezing in more towers within ranges of Villages.

Version History[]

Balance Changes[]

Striker Jones received multiple buffs across history, with a huge buff overall. The most significant buffs for him were to his explosive non-immunity buffs for all explosions, allowing explosive-heavy strategies to prosper in CHIMPS scenarios; most especially MOAB Mauler spam strategies. His main attacks and Level 9+ Concussive Shell ability buffs were also significant at giving him both higher DPS and to act as better stun support at his higher levels.

As Striker Jones leaned away from Bomb Shooter spam metas, he got buffed on the basis that he is a stronger Mortar-focused hero who can also provide percentage pierce buffs to all nearby towers.

We were hopeful to get this in early last year, however it was delayed at the time in favour of other things. Finally though, along with the other Mortar changes in this update it feels like a good time for Jones to learn a new Lv7 QoL ability designed around managing large numbers of mortars more effectively.

There's very few places to obtain 'percentage pierce', and looking at it we feel like this is something that really does fit where Striker's Explosives Expert could improve on for everyone, not just Bomb Shooters - especially given that this buff would be quite significant for Mortars and never previously applied for them, or maybe even encourage Striker in niche strategies that don't need these towers.

  • [unknown version] If Level 19 is obtained through exp instead of being purchased with cash, its secondary effect does not take place; meaning Black bloons still have a 50% chance of being damaged by explosives at Levels 19 & 20 instead of a guaranteed hit.
  • [41.0] There is a bug where Striker Jones' Level 8 passive buff to all towers only specifically applies to that Level. Once Striker Jones becomes Level 9 or higher, the passive buff will no longer work on all towers and only apply to bomb shooters. Patched in Version 41.1.

Striker Jones has different cosmetics that can be bought to add visual flair to him. These are purely visual and do not influence how he performs in-game. Hero Skins for Striker Jones are available once he is unlocked.

Striker Jones has two additional skins that can be bought for a one-off purchase of BloonjaminsIcon2500 each; being Biker Bones and Octojones. Biker Bones is a wrathful skeleton. Octojones is a cephalopod pirate captain whose design is inspired by Davy Jones from Pirates of the Caribbean.

Trivia[]

  • Both Jones and Captain Churchill use military weapons.
    • Coincidentally, Jones also does not know what a B.A.D bloon is, Depicted from when he says: "Target that big huge one!"
  • Striker Jones is the third Hero to gain a second skin, the first Hero being Quincy, and second Hero being Gwendolin.
  • Despite Version 39.0’s patch notes suggesting his Level 7 ability cooldown is 30 seconds, testing shows it actually is 45 seconds.
  • Striker Jones is the second hero to gain a third ability in an update, the first being Admiral Brickell. He is also the first male hero to get a third ability in an update.
  • Once Striker Jokes got his third ability, he became the fourth hero to have three abilities, the first is Ezili, second is Adora, and third is Admiral Brickell. However, he is not the last hero as Corvus also got one as of release.
