Converts into a Spike-o-pult that hurls large spiked balls. Good range, but slower attack speed. Each ball can pop lots of Bloons.
~ BTDB2 description
Pult range btdb2

Spike-o-pult range as of 2.0.4

Spike-o-pult is the third upgrade of Path 1 for the Dart Monkey in Bloons TD Battles 2. Like its BTD6 counterpart, it shoots spiked balls that pop lots of bloons including Frozen and rebound obstacles. It resembles the BTD6 pre-41.0 counterpart but with the extra range.

Spike-o-pult's range increases from 32 to 36.8. Each ball deals 1 damage and +1 Ceramic damage, pierces 22 bloons, and can pop Frozen but attacks every 1.15s instead of 0.95s as a penalty, and these balls can rehit the same bloons after rebounding.

It costs $450, and is unlocked by default.

Strategy[]

Summary[]

Spike-o-Pult packs with decent pierce, is cheap, and works well along straight lines to pop lots of grouped weaker bloons at once. It is mainly useful in the early-game in the case of the opponent sending only grouped bloons up to the Grouped Green range. Additionally, it is more efficient than the other T3 Darts against Grouped Yellows, which Crossbow seriously struggles to keep up with and 2-3-0 Triple Shot not having enough pierce-speed compared to 3-2-0.

Tips[]

  • 3-2-0 is generally better than 3-0-2, as the attack speed bonuses makes it refresh the slower ball attack quicker. 3-1-0 is normally sufficient if not needing the extra $100 for Very Quick Shots, to which the extra surplus money can be used to send more rushes at the opponent without missing too much benefit off the Spike-o-pult.
  • Some maps support "bouncy spult", whereby the balls can bounce off obstacles to rehit. However, most maps also support "straight spult", which involves taking advantage of straight lines to maximize pierce.
  • On some angles, it is best to set Spike-o-pult to Last so it doesn't chase bloons, and hurls balls against the grain of the bloon path.

Version History[]

Worth note that Version 1.0.4 reduced prices of Sharp Shots and Razor Sharp Shots, making Spike-o-pult slightly cheaper, though Spike-o-pult itself wasn't directly buffed.

Spike-o-pult feels like it’s in a decent spot, however the other low tier Dart Monkey upgrades aren’t at the same level. So we have made a small adjustment to 2xx while leaving 3xx’s total cost unchanged, which will help the other upgrade paths such as 230 more than anything. [...]

We’ve made a few small price cuts to Dart Monkey’s early upgrades so that the tower can obtain greater relevance in the meta as a dominant early game tower.

Trivia[]

  • BTDB2 Spike-o-pult keeps the description about "good range", even though the range is actually relatively low compared to towers like Boomerang Monkey.
