- For the damage type called "sharp" in Bloons Pop!, see Shatter.
Official Name The term "Sharp" is a term popularized by fans and is confirmed by official sources (e.g. in-game, Ninja Kiwi blog). |
Sharp (referred to as piercing internally in the mobile versions of the Bloons TD 5 generation) is a damage type introduced in Bloons Tower Defense, and has appeared in every Bloons TD game. It is defined as the damage type of attacks unable to pop Lead Bloons and Frozen Bloons, but can pop any other Bloon type. It was one of the first three damage types introduced to the series, the other two being Explosion and Metal Freeze. The Bloons Wiki represents this damage type with , the Bloons TD 6 upgrade icon for Sharp Shots, as darts are typically very sharp.
This damage type is the most common damage type encountered in the series, with a majority of towers having Sharp as their default damage type. It is often associated with sharp projectiles or weapons such darts, tacks, arrows, and swords.
An important consideration is that only towers whose default damage type for any attack is Sharp can receive the buff from Sharpening Stone or Flint Tips.
History of Sharp damage[]
Bloons Tower Defense[]
All towers except the Ice Tower and Cannon dealt Sharp damage in the first Bloons Tower Defense game.
Bloons Tower Defense 2[]
Bloons Tower Defense 2 introduced the Boomerang Monkey whose damage was Sharp by default. Additionally, it introduced ways to upgrade a tower's Sharp attacks to Shatter , namely Sonic Boom and Laser Vision.
Bloons TD 4[]
Bloons TD 4 introduced the Monkey Ace, Monkey Buccaneer, Spike Factory, and Dartling Gun, who were all by default Sharp. In DDITION, THE Mobile version adds the Beekeeper, who also deals Sharp damage.
Bloons Super Monkey[]
In Bloons Super Monkey, there are no black, frozen, or lead bloons, so all damage types effectively deal Normal damage.
Bloons TD 5[]
The Ninja Monkey, with a default damage type of Sharp, debuted in Bloons TD 5.
The Sniper Monkey's default damage type was changed from Shatter to Sharp in Bloons TD 5 Mobile and its derivatives.
Bloons Supermonkey 2[]
In both Flash and mobile editions, the Sharp damage type is represented in the Darts weapon category, as Dart weapons can pop all but frozen or lead bloons without research. Rangs weapons instead count as Shatter because they can pop frozen by default.
Bloons TD 6[]
The Druid, with a default type of Sharp, was introduced. Semi-Automatic is now Sharp, unlike its BTD5 counterpart Semi-Automatic Rifle. Robo Monkey without the energy crosspaths are now Sharp too.
Patch 25.0 changed the damage type of The Tack Zone from Normal to Sharp as a nerf.
Patch 26.0 changed Glaive Lord's orbital rings from Normal to Sharp, a nerf supposed to encourage the use of the Red Hot Rangs crosspath; the attack speed crosspath was previously the most popular one.
The third instance of a patch of changing damage types of towers from Normal to Sharp was in Version 28.0, which removed that for Full Auto Rifle and Elite Defender, both likely done to reduce trivialization of Deflation games as well as to accommodate for the allowance of shrapnel buff inheritance on the same update. While this rework has no effect for the Path 1 crosspath, this rework has caused the shrapnel crosspath to further rely on receiving lead-popping via Acidic Mixture Dip.
Version 32.0 did the same to Druid of the Jungle's aftervines from Normal to Sharp unless given Hard Thorns, while leaving the instakilling vine as Normal regardless of crosspathing.
Bloons Adventure Time TD[]
In Bloons Adventure Time TD, most towers have a default type of Sharp. These include characters who can equip swords, instruments, and darts. This even includes NEPTR and his damage over time effect, despite using a hot attack. Slime Princess' Toxic Slime also does Sharp damage.
Marceline's default damage type is wrongly labeled as Normal in-game. It is in fact Sharp.
Bloons Pop![]
Unusually, the Sharp damage type does not exist in Bloons Pop!. Instead, all towers that usually have Sharp damage instead are demonstrated to have Shatter damage, since they pop Frozen Bloons. However, the game still calls its Shatter-type attacks "sharp".
Bloons TD Battles 2[]
Update 1.0.4 changed the damage type of The Tack Zone from Normal to Sharp as a nerf.
