Creates super-powerful but highly unstable sentries
”
~ BTDB2 description
Sentry Champion is the 5th upgrade of Path 1 for the Engineer Monkey in Bloons TD Battles 2. Similarly to its BTD6 counterpart, it changes deployment of specialized sentries into Champion Sentries. However, Champion Sentries are much more powerful in this game, shooting plasma that deal 3 damage almost twice as fast (every 0.035s instead 0.06s), and manually sold Champion Sentries deal 260 damage with 100 pierce. However, automatically exploded Champion Sentries have pierce is less than BTD6, 40 instead of 50. Production rate of Champion Sentries cannot be boosted with any external buffs but the sentries themselves can attack faster with Overclock on the Sentry Champion Engineer.
It costs $32,000, and is unlocked with a one-off purchase of 1500 to unlock all Tier 5 Engineer Monkey upgrades.
Sentry Champion offers the epitome of Engineer raw DPS, aside from the XXXL Trap's instakilling strengths. Since Champion Sentries pack the greatest DPS for this Engineer, it is best to speed boost it.
Tips[]
5-2-0 is almost always better, because this maximizes MOAB-class damage, and also the bonus Fortified damage to destroy Fortified rushes more efficiently.
5-0-2 only offers bonus +1 sentry plasma pierce, and the pin effect is not very effective except when handling Tight Lead and Tight Ceramic rushes.
No longer requires 15000 XP to unlock. Players who have unlocked this upgrade before the update will not receive a full refund, as well as unlock all Tier 5 Engineer Monkey upgrades.
Sentry Champion sentries explosion damage increased from 200 to 260
Sentry Champion attack cooldown reduced from 0.035s to 0.03s

Engineer’s early game upgrades aren’t great, nor is 5xx. However, Engineer has some incredibly strong upgrades, being xx4 for a huge boost in cash and 4xx for easy mid-game defense. We have altered all of these upgrades, weakening its strong points while improving its weaker ones to compensate and balance it out.

Sentry spawn rate is no longer affected by attack speed buffs
“
[...] We have decided to change Engineer so that the spawn rate of its sentries can no longer be affected by attack rate buffs, but we have also greatly increased Sentry Champion’s regular damage so that it’s much stronger on its own now.

Sentry Champion never had its name changed from BTD6, and still kept that new name.
