Sauda 34.0 updated, may need work Large amounts of the Sauda Version 34.0 update information has been updated. However, since the Version 34.0 rework was absolutely massive, it may need a double-check for accuracies. |
“ | With a calm fury, Sauda can carve Bloons up with her twin razor-sharp swords. | ” |
~ BTD6 description |
Sauda (BTD6) is a Hero in Bloons TD 6, first released in Version 24.0. She is a swordmaster, and is the second melee hero in the game (the first being Pat Fusty). She uses her two swords to pop bloons, dealing one damage per attack across a 90-180 degree cone. She attacks quickly, approximately every 0.4s at base, and even faster at higher levels, but she has low range, at 23 initially. Initially, she pops up to 4 bloons per attack. She has built-in camo detection at base level, but cannot pop Lead Bloons with her standard attack until at least Level 13. She is unlockable with a one-time cost of 5000.
She costs $510 on Easy, $600 on Medium, $650 on Hard, and $700 on Impoppable. If Hero Favors is enabled, she will cost $460 on Easy, $540 on Medium, $585 on Hard, and $650 on Impoppable.
Upgrades[]
Sauda will start upgrading herself every round upon placement. She earns more XP each round to unlock her next upgrade irrespective of how many bloons she pops. Her upgrades can also be immediately bought with cash, though the amount of cash required to purchase the next upgrade will typically increase as the upgrades get higher, making self-upgrading an important element for her overall power.
Sauda upgrades automatically after being placed. Her leveling speed is 1.425x, equal to that for Ezili, Pat Fusty, and Admiral Brickell.

Activated Abilities[]
![]() |
Standardization This format, which consists of adding the "Activated Abilities" Header 2 section containing a bunch of information about the activated abilities, should be standardized across all Hero articles in BTD6, and maybe also BTDB2 too |
- See also: Activated Abilities (BTD6)#Sauda
Sauda has two activated abilities: Leaping Sword (Level 3+), and Sword Charge (Level 10+).
Leaping Sword Ability[]

Leaping Sword Ability
Sauda's Leaping Sword ability allows her to strike two swords on the ground from anywhere on the map onto the target bloon, with the location being based on her target priority. The swords act together as the "strike", and once landed will act as the "after-sword". The "strike" always follows and accurately hits the target no matter how fast the target moves. After landing, the "after-sword" deals contact damage around a small area for a limited time before disappearing. Both of these attacks of the Leaping Sword pop all bloon types.
Initially, the strike of the Leaping Sword will deal 20 damage or 80 MOAB-class damage (40 damage or 180 MOAB-class damage at Level 12-14, 80 damage or 220 MOAB-class damage at Level 15-19, 400 damage or 540 MOAB-class damage at Level 20) to up to 20 bloons (40 with Level 12+, 60 with Level 20) upon impact, including versus Leads, with a small area-of-effect of 15 radius. The swords on the ground will deal a constant amount of damage (Level 3-11: 2, Level 12-14: 3, Level 15-19: 4, Level 20: 6) every 0.2s to up to a certain maximum number of bloons that touch them. The swords on the ground will last for 5+.5*L
where L is level, starting at 6.5s and up to 15 seconds at Level 20. before disappearing.
While she is using any activated ability, including Leaping Sword, her other attacks cease until she returns back to her original location. She cannot activate Sword Charge while the Leaping Sword ability is active.
Leaping Sword has an activated ability cooldown of 30 seconds, with a deployment cooldown of about 0.5s. Equation for the uptime of the "after-sword" is (L/2 + 5)/30; uptime for the "after-sword" is between 21.67% and 50%. Her Leaping Sword ability cooldowns can be reduced with a global Energizer buff, a nearby The Final Harmonic, the Ability Mastery MK, and the Abilitized Relic. Its ability cooldown can also be reset with Geraldo's Rejuv Potion.
Leaping Sword scales its damage bonuses to all stunned targets (Level 7+) and "harmed" targets (Level 11+), instead of a flat amount of bonus damage to those targets. These changes carry up through all levels with all damage increases to Leaping Sword and Sword Charge (Levels 12, 15, 20 increase leaping sword damage). Assume "x" is base damage of the ability aspect.
Sword Charge Ability[]

Sword Charge Ability
Sauda's Sword Charge ability allows her to charge across all bloon paths, dealing 30 damage (120 at Level 16-19, 220 at Level 20) to up to 400 bloons (1400 at Level 20), and can rehit the same bloons more than once. If the map is not a single-lane map (i.e. "single-entry-single-exit"), she can spawn more than one temporary copy of herself; she spawns as many temporary copies of herself as there are entry-to-exit combinations. Sword Charge has a splash radius of 19.5 at Level 10-15, 22.5 at Level 16+. At Level 20, the ability allows her to charge up to 3 times in a single ability use.
While she is using any activated ability, including Sword Charge, her other attacks cease until she returns back to her original location. She cannot activate Leaping Sword while the Sword Charge ability is active.
Sword Charge has an ability cooldown of 45 seconds, and a deployment cooldown of about 0.8s before she starts charging at the bloons. The duration of the ability depends on the length of the longest lane, and the duration is tripled if Level 20; on a very long RBS map such as Logs it takes ~10 seconds, while on a short RBS map such as #Ouch it takes ~3 seconds. Therefore, the true duration of the Sword Charge ability is difficult to determine mathematically perfectly. Her Sword Charge ability cooldowns can be reduced with a global Energizer buff, a nearby The Final Harmonic, the Ability Mastery MK, and the Abilitized Relic. Its ability cooldown can also be reset with Geraldo's Rejuv Potion.
Sword Charge scales its damage bonuses to all stunned targets (Level 10+, by default) and "harmed" targets (Level 11+), instead of a flat amount of bonus damage to those targets. These changes carry up through all levels with all damage increases to Sword Charge (Levels 16 and 20). Assume "x" is base damage of the ability aspect.

Version History[]
Balance Changes[]
During the first few weeks of her release, Sauda was considered "overpowered" by the BTD6 community, attributed mostly to her extreme numbers of new 2TC combos. However, as time went by, the BTD6 community began to realize that she has been overestimated, due to the fact that her true power only opens where she can be placed in a spot where her low range but high attack speed and damage can be maximized.
On the April 2021 Q&A video, Ninja Kiwi stated that Sauda would be nerfed in Version 25.0 with range nerfs. This in effect has retained her start-of-game utility but restrict her further into map-dependency.
Sauda was later nerfed in 27.0 as a way to encourage adding synergies rather than relying on her base damage at higher levels. Contrary to popular belief, Sauda's total damage is still clearly nerfed even when attacking Ceramics and MOAB-class with both stun and "harmed" status effects, as her base bonus Ceramic and MOAB-class damage is treated as a bonus equal to her base damage, and doesn't necessarily increase with additional buff sources.
Version 34.0 massively reworked Sauda to have weaker pierce and significantly stronger synergy potential with her abilities, in order to stand out on Expert Maps as well as minimizing her overpower on Beginner Maps.
Version 44.0 nerfed Sauda due to her popularity on Boss Rush with buy-and-resell strategies for early tiers of Bosses.

“ | Yes, here it is the nerf you've all been waiting for. But as some in the community predicted, it's not that much of a nerf. Sauda's range has been tightened up as her role is specifically about high damage in a small, focused area. | ” |

Attack range reduced from 25 to 23
Lv6 Attack range bonus reduced from +4 to +3
Lv15 Attack range bonus reduced from +4 to +3

“ | While we feel Sauda's power has been balanced fairly well, we have also felt that too much of this power is generally available while ignoring the synergies that she was intended to be built around. To correct this her damage will in total remain the same, but some key levels that increased damage will now instead buff her weakness bonuses. We would also like to make it clear that this has been in the works for some time and has nothing to do with the recent 1TC completion, so please don't be mad at that person. This will mean fairly little to most players, who are not doing those sorts of challenges anyway. | ” |
~ Ninja Kiwi |
Lv13 sword damage reduced from 4 to 3, now instead grants +1 damage to Sauda's Lv7 Bloon Weakness
Lv17 sword damage reduced from 7 to 4, instead replaced with +1 damage to Sauda's Lv7 Bloon Weakness and +1 damage to Sauda's Lv11 Afflicted Bloons Weakness.
[undocumented] Level 13 Sauda's Ceramic and MOAB-class damage also reduced (+4 → +3)
[undocumented] Level 17 Sauda's Ceramic and MOAB-class damage also reduced (+7 → +4)

“ | Saving this for last, as it is the biggest rework here with the most to say. There was too much already changed to include even further changes with her all at once, but we want to take this rework further after seeing your feedback, so Sauda fans please take your time over the holidays to really get a feel for how this changes things. At first this looks like a lot of numbers going down, but that is not our only intention with the changes, Sauda’s feeling is far too much of a ‘set and forget’ play, leading her to be extremely overvalued on simple maps but have a highly lackluster feeling on many difficult ones that require further interaction. To steer away from this her base power is being lowered at a number of points, with some tweaks to both her abilities overall improving their power mainly with a huge buff to her level 7 & 11 Bloon Weakness debuffs now benefitting her abilities with CONSIDERABLY more damage than previously (previously +2 regardless of the ability damage) |

Strategy[]
Summary[]
Sauda has very low range, moderate pierce, but high attack speed. Because of this, she has an incredible amount of DPS. In fact, she has a higher damage-per-second than any other tower in the game for her price, but is strongly limited by her very low range. As such, a tight spot on the map will make for an effective chokepoint for destroying the bloons. At higher levels, she can directly synergize with status effects, dealing much more damage against bloons that are stunned or "harmed". Her activated abilities provide useful additional sources of popping power if needed, which is especially important when using her for harder map formats.
Due to her low range, she will have trouble on maps that lack a corner or tight bend, although she will appreciate from external range buffs such as Villages and Alchemist. Although she excels at easier map formats, she can work on certain map formats that allow her to focus on a specific corner or tight bend. Additionally, certain towers can forcefully reposition the bloons, such as the Giant Condor and Symphonic Resonance.
Tips[]
- Ideally, place Sauda in a location that focuses around a bend or corner.
- The intermediate map Balance is designed specifically to optimize her high attack speed and pierce over her main weakness of low range, by placing her in the center spot.
- The beginner map Resort features a similar spot at the top right corner to place her in; thanks to the constant loops Sauda can deal enough damage to complete most CHIMPS rounds on this map.
- Stacking stuns on top of other status effects will drastically increase her damage, up to +30 on MOABs at level 11 (+20 for the stun, +10 for the other status effect). To specify, lvl 7 and lvl 11 count as different buffs, meaning a slow and a damage-over-time effect don't stack, but a slow and a stun stacks.
- She can pop camo bloons, which is useful for Alternate Bloons Rounds.
- The Level 10 Sword Charge ability is good for quick or emergency cleanup for dense rounds.
- At Level 11+, adding any slow, immobilization, or damage-over-time will allow her to deal bonus damage to bloons and blimps.
- MOAB Glue is one of the best cost-effective status effects to pair with her, as MOAB Glue slows down blimps to allow her to attack blimps more often before the blimps leave, while she benefits from the bonus damage from her Level 11+ special extra damage. Relentless Glue stuns up to MOABs and DDTs, activating her stunned bloon damage bonus for even more damage; Super Glue can also stun bloons below BAD, allowing for even higher damage.
- Bloon Sabotage is also an extremely effective tower to pair with Sauda due to its screen-wide slow, along with its 15 second duration.
- Since the BAD is immune to all kinds of slow effects, it can only receive debuffs that grant bonus damage on attacks. This can add up to +10.
- Sauda can pop Frozen and Lead with any of her abilities, regardless of level. However, her main attacks alone are insufficient for popping Frozen until Level 7+, and insufficient versus Leads until Level 13+.
- Don't rely on her abilities to pop Frozen or Lead. Use other sources to pop Frozen and Lead until she reaches Level 7+ and Level 13+, respectively.
- Much like Ground Zero and Tsar Bomba, be sure to watch out for her 0.8s time delay before any of her abilities activate. If bloons are about to leak, you should be aware that you'll probably leak before Sauda will be able to use her ability.
- Because of Sauda's extremely short range and lack of any supportive capabilities, she is less useful on most True Expert maps than other top tier options, such as Adora, Brickell or Ezili would be, however she is still very powerful even on maps such as X Factor, Quad and Sanctuary where tracks overlap.
- Sauda's Leaping Sword ability has a large enough splash radius to hit the four Ceramics out of the Round 40 MOAB.
- Make use of Auto Start to allow Sauda's Sword Charge to carry over damage across rounds. Sword Charge does damage bloons even if the round ends.
- Sauda can use all the bloons' debuffs a single tower can apply. For example, both of Cripple MOAB's stun and debuff are utilized.

Cosmetics[]
Sauda has different cosmetics that can be bought to add visual flair to her. These are purely visual and do not influence how she performs in-game. Hero Skins for Sauda are available once she is unlocked.
Skins[]
Sauda has two hero skins available. Her first is Viking Sauda, which dons her as a viking wielding axes, speaking in a deeper voice and speaking some Old Norse. Her second skin transforms her into a Jiangshi (Simplified Chinese: 僵尸), an undead creature from Chinese folklore, using the chains on her wrists in place of swords and speaking in a dull tone.

She has two swords attached to her hands via velcro, with the blue-banded sword on her right hand and red-banded sword on her left hand. Her hair cannot freely flow, as each of her wavy strands of hair are sewed on herself. Her eyebrows and all parts of her eyes except her sclera are slightly rough, likely made of polypropylene cotton.

Trivia[]
- At the time of her debut in Version 24.0, Sauda's appearance now brings the list of heroes purchasable on the first round of standard CHIMPS Mode to 3, alongside Quincy and Ezili. It was previously 3 before the Obyn price nerf in Version 11.0. It was not until Version 31.0 with the release of Geraldo when that list increased to 4.
- Sauda, Etienne, Psi, Adora, and Admiral Brickell are the third most expensive heroes (behind Corvus and Geraldo at 7000) by Monkey Money cost, as each cost 5000 Monkey Money to buy.
- Sauda is the fifth female hero, along with Gwendolin, Ezili, Adora, and Admiral Brickell, followed by Rosalia.
- Sauda is the second hero to have built-in camo detection, the first being Ezili.
- Sauda's quote "Hero time!" is also said by Finn in Bloons Adventure Time TD. She is also inspired by the attack concept of Finn, who also attacks with swords, except he attacks with one sword at initially moderate speed (1 attack per second) instead of two swords at Rattleballs-quick speeds (2.5 attacks per second) like Sauda does.
- Sauda is the second hero to speak in another language in addition to English, the first being Etienne (in his case, French).
- However, in BATTD, Lady Rainicorn speaks Korean, so Sauda is not the first character in any of the Bloons games to speak that language.
- The Bloon Bleed sprites are basically tear marks off bloons and blimps, while the Bloon Bleed damage-over-time animation is simply the animated leaking of air in the form of small white puffs of air.
Community achievements[]
- Sauda has by far the most amount of 2TC combos out of any tower or hero, being the first hero or tower to reach 100 combos.
- Sauda's first 2TC was accomplished within around 2 hours after the 24.0 update was announced, using Sauda + Sky Shredder.[1]
- The 2TC combo Sauda + Permanent Brew is the second combo to not have its first completion done on neither Logs nor Cubism.
- On 9th July 2021, Sauda 1TC on Resort had been completed, making her the first tower or hero to be able to completely solo CHIMPS. Significant micromanagement, including proper timing, as well as manual leveling was required to get there. Prior to that, there were many close 2TC combos with Sauda with increasingly lower towers.[2][3]
- Sauda's 1TC completion has lead her to receive 33 associate 2TC combos, bringing her new total to 202 2TC combos.
- The patch notes for Version 27.0 also refer to the Sauda 1TC community achievement while Ninja Kiwi was clarifying their intents to nerf Sauda on Version 27.0.
- Until Flying Fortress and Superstorm dropped their Hard prices to $91,800 and $70,200 in Version 30.0, respectively, Sauda + Flying Fortress and Sauda + Superstorm were not completed. As of the Sauda + Superstorm combo, which was completed after the Sauda + Flying Fortress combo, the only CHIMPS-affordable towers left that do not yet have a 2TC are Sun Temple and Super Mines.
Blog posts[]

- According to Ninja Kiwi's 23rd June 2022 blog, Sauda tends to eat vegetarian, though she does not define herself as such.
- According to Ninja Kiwi's 16th June 2023 blog, Sauda's favorite vegan snacks are Pea Snaps and chocolate chia pudding.
- According to Ninja Kiwi's 23rd June 2023 blog, Sauda smiles in battle because she has her "game face" on, in contrast to her recent corresponding plushie, who is frowning without explanation.
- According to Ninja Kiwi's 11th August 2023 blog, Sauda's favorite Animal Crossing character is Shino.

- According to Ninja Kiwi's 8th December 2023 blog, Sauda has a dojo named the Sauda Dojo, and she has some students in her dojo that switch between the front lines and taking staff breaks.
- According to Ninja Kiwi's 15th March 2024 blog, Sauda's favorite tea is Jasmine tea, as it has plenty of antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties, which relieve her pain during her training and fighting against the Bloons.
- According to Ninja Kiwi's 25th April 2025 blog, Sauda is an expert at making advanced trampolining tricks.
Cultural references[]
- Based on the description of the Version 24.0 patch notes update video by Ninja Kiwi, Sauda is Korean.
- Her name 'Sauda' resembles the Korean word "싸우다", a verb that means "to fight". It also sounds like 'Sword-a' in non-rhotic varieties of English.
- The quote "clean cuts, still cuts a tomato!" is a reference to commercials about the Ginsu knife series. More specifically, the narrator of the 1990 commercial about the Ginsu 2000 says the line "The Ginsu 2000 can saw a lead pipe and still slice a tomato like this!" and the chef proceeds to slice a tomato cleanly after slicing a lead pipe cleanly.[4]
