Retaliation is an attacking style and gameplay element first appearing in Bloons TD 5 and appearing in many other games since. It is characterized by a tower or other active element having a specified gameplay reaction to when Bloons leak.

Since they have no gameplay effects, heroes' voice clips whenever a leak occurs do not count as Retaliation, but do indicate when gameplay effects with Retaliation should trigger. However, they only do it when the first bloon leaks, and the heroes' voice clips will not play for any other leaks until the player reaches the next round, unlike actual Retaliation which can be activated as many times as it can in a single round.

The Bloons Wiki represents Retaliation with Retaliation (reacts to leaks), the Bloons TD 6 upgrade icon for the Legend of the Night, because it is the most powerful form of Retaliation, being the only one of its kind to prevent a B.A.D. from taking lives when it "leaks."

It is distinct from Vengeance (reacts to lives value) Vengeance in that Vengeance occurs when a tower reacts to the current amount of lives the player is possessing (which can be changed by leaks), while Retaliation occurs whenever a leak happens regardless of the amount of lives.

Examples of Retaliation[]

The Angry Squirrel in Bloons TD 5 gains a temporary boost to attack speed and range upon a leak. Bloons TD 5 Mobile and Bloons Monkey City Mobile also have the Bloon Scrambler and the Egg Scrambler/Golden Egg Scrambler, respectively, which activate what is effectively a Monkey Boost when a leak happens.

Bloons TD 6 introduces a few other towers with Retaliation. Elite Defender gains an immense speed boost when a life is lost, and Bomb Blitz destroys all onscreen bloons weaker than a ZOMG when a leak occurs. The Legend of the Night also spawns its black hole whenever a bloon leaks. Unlike other forms of Retaliation, Legend of the Night also prevents the leaked bloon from taking away Lives. Retaliation does not occur if a Test Bloon or Test MOAB leaks, as they do not consume lives.

Bloons Adventure Time TD also grants Finn and Princess Bubblegum the ability to Retaliate. Finn's Bound By Word boosts his speed when a bloon leaks, and Princess Bubblegum's Royal Promise takes away 50 more lives when the player loses a life, among other possible triggers. Ice Frog Alarm can also react to leaks by attacking and providing a boost to defenses.

In Bloons Card Storm, monkeys with the Can defend on opponent's turn, has +{{{2}}} damage on opponent's turn Defender trait, such as the Tack Shooter, can automatically attack leaking bloons with their remaining ammo. The Heart of Vengeance Druid also exhibits the Retaliation property, in the form of gaining attack power on every bloon leak.
