2-0-4 Recursive Cluster

Recursive Cluster is the 4th upgrade of Path 3 for the Bomb Shooter in Bloons TD Battles 2. Unlike its BTD6 counterpart, its secondary clusters and tertiary clusters now cannot hit their own tiers of explosions, has more tertiary cluster pierce, and the upgrade is more expensive. Explosions deal 1 damage, 2 if 2-0-4. Ordinary bombs have 14 pierce (20 with 1-0-4, 30 with 2-0-4) and clusters have 8 pierce (14 with 1-0-4, 20 with 2-0-4). Every second shot produces a special recursive bomb that produces 8 larger explosions via the tertiary clusters, which have significantly greater pierce and 6x pierce than the secondary clusters.

Recursive bombs work much differently from normal cluster bombs. The primary recursive bomb explosion has a 12 blast radius with 18 pierce. Afterwards, the 8 secondary recursive bomb explosion explode, each having 15 blast radius and 8 pierce. And after 0.45s, 8 tertiary explosions will become produced, each with 34 blast radius and 48 pierce. Crosspathing with Bigger Bombs increases pierce of tertiary explosions by +36 (84 pierce), and +6 for primary and secondary explosions. Heavy Bombs increases the pierce by a further +36 (120 pierce) for tertiary explosions and another +10 pierce for primary secondary explosions, alongside +1 damage for all explosions. Blast radius for primary and secondary explosions increases by +50% with top path upgrades, or from 34 to 37.5 for tertiary explosions.

It costs $3,200, and is unlocked by default.

Strategy[]

Summary[]

Very similar to its BTD6 counterpart, Recursive is best suited for wiping out large groups of bloons. However, it will not be effective at total wipeout of bloons unlike its BTD6 counterpart. Its main use is to excel against very dense groups of bloons over a wide radius.

Tips[]

  • Use either the 2-0-4 crosspath for extra damage per explosion or 0-2-4 for a higher rate of recursion. However, for most purposes 2-0-4 is better.
  • Note that Alch buffs are not as good in BTDB2 for Recursive because it produces fewer total numbers of explosions, and hence synergizes less. That doesn't mean Alch buffs are now bad with Recursive, just less effective.
  • The 2-0-4 Recursive is great against the Tight Leads. High pierce and a lot of damage.

Bugs[]

Current

none (so far)

Patched
  • [1.0.6 (possibly earlier or as soon as 1.1.0?)] Recursive Cluster's main bomb explodes multiple times when pierce buffs are applied, similar to Hydra Rocket Pods. Patched in 1.2.0.

Version History[]

Initial release (compared to BTD6 during Version 28.0)
  • NERF Recursive Cluster secondary and tertiary clusters now no longer rehit targets with their own tiers of clusters
  • NERF Recursive Cluster costs more ($2800 --> $3200)
  • NERF Recursive Cluster no longer pops Black Bloons
  • BUFF [bug, possibly this patch] Recursive Cluster explosions can now duplicate when given pierce buffs
1.1.1
  • BUFF Recursive Cluster now pops Black Bloons
1.2.0
  • NERF Patched bug that causes Recursive Cluster explosions to explode more than once when given pierce buffs
1.5.0
  • NERF Recursive Cluster pierce of secondary clusters reduced from 10 to 8
  • NERF Recursive Cluster base pierce of tertiary clusters reduced from 60 to 48
  • BUFF No longer requires 10,000 XP to unlock. Players who have unlocked this upgrade before the update will not receive a full refund.
3.2.4
  • NERF 2-0-4 Recursive Cluster secondary cluster pierce bonus reduced from +10 to +6, total cluster pierce bonus reduced from 24 to 20
Cluster Bombs has always stood out as a top tier early-mid game tower, leaving very little room for effective rushes against it on certain maps. We have decided to limit the pierce increase that 2xx gives to the clusters since it’s an extremely efficient upgrade, providing a big pierce bonus on top of extra damage.
