Popseidon's Ice Jet ability draws such power that a rogue wave floods the map with supercooled water, freezing all Bloons and reclaiming the weak for the sea.
~ In-game descripion

Popseidon is the fifth and final upgrade of Path 2 for the Mermonkey in Bloons TD 6. It improves the Ice Jet ability to produce much stronger ice balls and at the same time immediately summoning a gigantic cold flood. This wave freezes all regular bloons and all slowable MOAB-Class Bloons on screen (i.e. not BADs or Boss Bloons), dealing 9 damage to each bloon on the map and can freeze them for five seconds. MOAB-class bloons affected by the flood don't fully freeze but all slow down by 50%. Each ice ball's damage increases from 15 to 30 and their lifespan from 10s to 15s, with the maximum lifespan increased from 15s to 20s. The ice balls now ignore any obstacle except map borders, which they now bounce off, removing the need for a map with lots of line-of-sight blockers.

Its main attack now throws out 3 tridents at a time at double speed, with each trident dealing double the damage. More specifically, the unbuffed trident deals 12 damage, and +6 Frozen damage and +12 MOAB-class damage, with 18 pierce per trident. Tide splits deal 12 damage with 24 pierce.

This upgrade costs $44,200 on Easy, $52,000 on Medium, $56,160 on Hard, and $62,400 on Impoppable.

Overview[]

Placeholder description

Popseidon is obviously a reference to Poseidon, the Greek god of the sea, except the name of the Popseidon is a pun of "pop" and "Poseidon". Popseidon wears a more elaborate helmet, with three octohedron-shaped cyan-colored crystals, with two of the crystals pointing diagonally upwards away from the centre, and on his chest is a diamond-shaped emblem encased in a golden border. On his right wrist is a golden "wrist" with a crystal at the top. Popseidon has a more elaborate tailfin, including visible layers of scales, and a full tailfin, and his finned ears are even bigger. Popseidon loses his pupils. On his head are two big ice crystals. The landing pad that Popseidon sits on has a golden outline around the bottom section.

Popseidon unleashes the true power of the sea with his rapid-firing triple tridents that deal significantly more damage and pierce, including the diminishing waves that are bursted once the tridents expire. He also improves his own Ice Jet Ability into the Popseidon Ice Jet Ability, allowing him to send a gigantic freezing wave that freezes all bloons on screen and unleashes even more powerful ice balls that last longer and deal yet more damage.

Popseidon Ice Jet Ability

See also: Activated Abilities (BTD6)#Popseidon

Popseidon improves its own Ice Jet ability into the Popseidon Ability. When activated, the Mermonkey summons a gigantic freezing wave that freezes all bloons on screen, in addition to even stronger bouncing ice balls that can bounce off map borders and last even longer.

Like most magic-based activated abilities, Popseidon's ability cooldowns can be reduced by adding a global Energizer buff or Obyn Level 12+. It can have its ability cooldowns reset with Geraldo's Rejuv Potion.

Targeting Priorities[]

Popseidon targets bloons using the standard targeting priorities. Its trident attack shoots straight movement projectiles.

  • First: Targets the first bloon visible within its range.
  • Last: Targets the last bloon visible within its range.
  • Close: Targets the closest bloon visible within its range.
  • Strong: Targets the strongest bloon visible within its range.

Adding Echosense Precision grants camo detection to the Mermonkey, but does not add the Camo Prioritization targeting option.

Strategy[]

Summary[]

Popseidon is a powerful but expensive T5 whose main strength comes from interactions with freezing effects. In combination with its incredible attack rate, quantities of projectiles, and damage bonuses from various sources (especially bonus damage to MOAB-class and Frozen, and the damage scaling from growing riptides), Popseidon is very receptive of external synergies with other towers. Popseidon works incredibly well with blimp-freezing Ice Monkeys, such as Snowstorm and Absolute Zero, to maximize its damage potential outside of the Popseidon's Ice Jet ability.

Tips[]

  • 0-5-2 is the preferred crosspath, as 2-5-0 often is unable to hit all 3 tridents at targets easily, and most of the damage is locked at max power at the end of the projectile's lifespan, which without homing is not likely to hit targets.
    • 2-5-0 Popseidon is stronger than 0-5-2 if tridents quickly hit bloons, where the lack of space to grow the tridents may out-DPS the 0-5-2.

  • NERF Popseidon's Ice Jet projectile lifespan is now capped at 20s
While we’re not jumping into any full on balance changes, there’s a few corrections that we wanted to make for type-fixes and other intended play.

  • BUFF Popseidon split projectiles can now also freeze bloons
Damage type fixes - 320 required external Lead-popping which isn’t fun, and x4x was not benefiting from the upgrade’s Lead-popping

Trivia[]

  • Popseidon's name is based off of Poseidon, the ancient Greek god of the sea.
  • In the in-game code, the Mermonkey's sound folder contains a ActivatedRogueWaveLarge.prefab file dedicated to the Popseidon's Ice Jet ability. It contains the sound ActivatedSnowStorm.wav, which also is weirdly moved from the Ice Monkey's sound folder into the Mermonkey's sound folder.
    • Therefore, Popseidon's Ice Jet ability actually uses the same sound as Snowstorm's ability.
