Plasma vaporizes almost everything it touches.
~ In-game description

Plasma Blasts (also known as Plasma Monkey) is a returning upgrade for the second tier in Path 1 of the Super Monkey in Bloons TD 6. Just like the old Plasma Vision upgrade from earlier games and its BTD5 counterpart, Plasma Blasts makes the Super Monkey shoot plasma balls instead of lasers that allow it to pop Lead Bloons, but just like Laser Blasts, cannot pop Purple Bloons. Plasma Blasts shoots 50% faster than a base Super Monkey, and allows the Super Monkey to pop Lead. Each plasma ball has two pierce by default without pierce-granting crosspaths such as Super Range and Dark Knight.

This upgrade costs $2,125 on Easy, $2,500 on Medium, $2,700 on Hard, and $3,000 on Impoppable.

Description[]

Overview[]

Pblasts super

Plasma Blasts popping Leads rapidly

Plasma Blasts adds a pair of large plasma goggles, covering much of Super Monkey's forehead. The pair of goggles has three lenses, with the third lens located at its forehead. The lenses of its goggles do not correspond to its eyes. In the official artwork, the Plasma Blasts Super Monkey still smiles, unlike its predecessor, Laser Blasts.

Plasma Blasts shoots purple plasma balls that derive from the triple-eyed plasma goggles. This upgrade greatly increases the Super Monkey's attack speed and grants Plasma type damage, enabling popping of all Bloon types except Purples.

Targeting Priorities[]

Plasma Blasts targets bloons using the standard targeting priorities. It shoots straight movement projectiles.

  • First: Targets the first bloon visible within its range.
  • Last: Targets the last bloon visible within its range.
  • Close: Targets the closest bloon visible within its range.
  • Strong: Targets the strongest bloon visible within its range.

When given Ultravision, the Super Monkey can access Camo Prioritization, allowing all its attacks to prioritize Camo Bloons over other types when this secondary targeting option is active.

Strategy[]

Summary[]

Plasma Blasts dramatically increases the overall performance of the Super Monkey by greatly increasing attack speed. It is capable of dealing overall large damage versus bloons and MOABs. It is undeniably a very favorable crosspath choice for Super Monkey upgrades along Upper Path 2 (Robo Monkey and above) and Upper Path 3 (Dark Knight and above), unless for camo detection (Upper Path 2) or extra Darkshift range for Dark Knight (note that Dark Champion already has infinite Darkshift range).

Tips[]

  • This upgrade proves to be extremely effective for Super Monkey because the significant attack speed bonus for an already fast-attacking Super Monkey is incredibly useful for pretty much any upgrade, including further upgrades after Plasma Blasts, such as Sun Avatar.
  • This upgrade prevents it from popping Purples. Add anti-Purple support like Bloonjitsu or Alchemists.
  • Since this upgrade focuses on popping Leads and increasing attack speed, it is helpful to add this to an existing Tier 3 Super upgrade.

Version History[]

Balance Changes[]

In order to balance out power between Path 1 crosspathing over Path 2 crosspathing, the Plasma Blasts' pierce was reduced, while also reducing the cost of this upgrade to compensate. The increased attack speed gained in BTD6 initially was double, now reduced to 50% to balance crosspathing choices.

10.0
  • NERF Plasma Blasts pierce increase reduced (+2 → +1).
  • BUFF Plasma Blasts price reduced ($5,000 → $4,500).

We wanted some more meaning to middle path being a pierce choice aside from just being cheaper, so we’ve lowered Plasma Blast pierce but reduced its price. [...]
~ Ninja Kiwi
  • NERF Plasma Blasts no longer grants +1 pierce. Sun Avatar's pierce remains unchanged.
  • BUFF Plasma Blasts price reduced ($4,500 → $3,000)
35.0
We want the base Super Monkey to feel like more of a ‘weak for the cost’ stepping stone into T3s that feel more like T4s; but the base upgrade really does feel very outdated on this idea, and big crosspath problems exist due to this so we are moving some attack speed out from 2xx into the base upgrade.
~ Ninja Kiwi
  • NERF Attack speed multiplier with Plasma Blasts reduced (+100% → +50%, 0.50x → 0.6666x). Plasma Blasts attack cooldown remains the same.
    • Note: Because the base Super Monkey now attacks ~33% faster than before, the attack speed of a Plasma Blasts Super Monkey remains the same.
41.0
We weren't sure we'd see the day but the bottom crosspath is now quite used on all Supers, especially so it seems to make Robo Monkey very powerful currently so to address a few different concerns on Super Monkey we're moving costs from top to middle crosspath
~ Ninja Kiwi
  • BUFF Plasma Blasts price reduced from $3000 to $2500
    • Total price decrease is $1000 due to Laser Blasts decreasing cost by $500

Trivia[]

  • A Robo Monkey with Plasma Vision can fire 2 plasma streams, with a higher popping power per arm.
  • With the introduction of the Purple Bloon in Bloons TD 6, the Plasma Blasts upgrade description was changed from "Plasma vaporizes everything it touches" to "Plasma vaporizes almost everything it touches" upon release.
  • Paul the Monkey from the "DNA Productions" logo has three eyes arranged similarly to the plasma goggles pattern of Plasma Blasts.
  • According to NK's October 8th 2021 blog, Plasma Blast's goggles are almost purely aesthetic and the third lense does not act as a third eye.
