“ | Stealthy and fast Monkey that throws bladed shurikens to pop the Bloons. Can target Camo Bloons. | ” |
~ In-game Description |
The Ninja Monkey is a Magic Monkey released for Bloons TD Battles 2. Ninja Monkey is one of two towers in BTD6 to detect camo by default, the other being Spike Factory.
Ninja Monkey attacks at a moderately fast speed, throwing a shuriken every 0.62s. Ninjas deal 1 damage and hit up to 3 bloons per shuriken. It has a moderate range of 40. Ninja Monkey is one of two towers in BTD6 to detect camo by default, the other being Spike Factory, but the only to receive the Camo Prioritization target option by default. Many of its upgrades are powerful as supportive and offensive options, including shurikens that seek, buffing attack speed and pierce of nearby Ninjas, deadly sticky bombs, and immediate slowdown of all bloons on screen. (Except BADs, as they are immune to all slows.)
The base price for Ninja Monkey is $400. It is unlocked by spending 750, unlocking all upgrades up to Tier 4, plus another
1,500 to unlock all its Tier 5 upgrades.
Description[]
The Ninja Monkey is a monkey with a red jumpsuit revealing only its hands, feet, and eyes, along with a white ninja belt. On its official portrait, it holds a dark grey shuriken with its right hand, and appears to be in a prepared pose for throwing the shuriken, with a crouching stance, a focused glare, and a shuriken prepared to be thrown. When dropped on the screen, the Ninja will do a three-point landing pose with its right hand and both feet. When idle, the Ninja Monkey occasionally bows or looks around both sides.
Path 1 increases the amount of shurikens the ninja monkey can throw. This is the standard Ninja Monkey path and has remained mostly unchanged from BTD5. This path focuses on throwing out large numbers of shurikens for bloon and MOAB damage.
Path 2 turns the Ninja Monkey into a support tower. This is through his new abilities to confuse bloons, reveal camos, speed up other Ninja Monkeys and to slow bloons.
Path 3 turns the Ninja Monkey into a MOAB killer. This is through the tier 4 upgrade Sticky Bomb. The previous upgrades are just generally helpful abilites such as caltrops and flash bombs.
Target Priorities[]
The base Ninja Monkey uses the standard target priorities: First, Last, Close, Strong. Most its attacks are dependent on its given target priority.
- First: Targets the first bloon visible within its range.
- Last: Targets the last bloon visible within its range.
- Close: Targets the closest bloon visible within its range.
- Strong: Targets the strongest bloon visible within its range.
Most of its alternate attacks have different target priorities:
- Caltrops always targets sporadically in a similar way to a base Spike Factory's Normal targeting.
- Shinobi Tactics is a range-based buff, and targets only Ninja Monkeys.
- Bloon Sabotage targets all bloons on screen instantaneously and all incoming bloons.
- Grand Saboteur targets bloons similarly to Bloon Sabotage, but its unique blimp health percentage reduction only targets incoming blimps.
- All attacks from Flash Bomb, Sticky Bomb, and Master Bomber target based on the Ninja's own target priority. Sticky Bomb's sticky bombs have slightly more range, and Master Bomber's sticky bombs have infinite range, excluding Line of Sight restrictions.
Ninja Monkey is unique in that it comes with the Camo Prioritization target option, a separate option that allows it to target Camo Bloons before all others, and if multiple Camo Bloons are on screen, it will attack the first, last, closest, or strongest, depending on the main targeting.

The Ninja Monkey specializes in dealing with Camo Bloons and has many different upgrades that help fulfill particular niches that most towers cannot do alone. Ninja Monkey has additional support-oriented upgrades in the form of Counter-Espionage's decamo and the slowdown from Bloon Sabotage. Most importantly, the Ninja is very capable of maximizing its power through external buffs, including synergizing attack speed and pierce with stacks of nearby Shinobis.

Tips[]
- Lower-tier Ninjas aren't particularly powerful, but do have some useful early-game. For early-game carries, use Double Shot.
- Pairing with Alchemist is a great synergy with Ninja, especially if defenses are centered around the Ninja.
- Ocean Obyn is a good synergy with Ninja.

Version History[]
Balance Changes[]
Just like in Battles 1, the Ninja Monkey is a fairly popular and strong tower overall. The introduction of Alchemist buffs has removed Ninja’s weakness towards Lead Bloons and its new bottom path is extremely valuable for handling all types of MOAB-class Bloons. Each path is about equally used, and this makes it versatile overall, especially because it can be effective in just about every stage of the game. Popular Ninja loadouts include Ninja-Alc-Heli/Farm/Boat, and the very popular Ninja-Dartling-Farm. The most common hero it is paired up with is Ocean Obyn due to being able to buff the Ninja’s pierce early on, making it far easier to start off and defend rushes.
- Initial release (compared to BTD6 Version 28.0)

- 3.1
Base: $450 → $400
1xx $250 → $150
x1x Distraction: projectiles have a 15% → 25% chance of distracting bloons. Distracted bloons are sent back between 10 and 300 → between 100 and 250 units.
x1x Distracton: $250 → $200

xx2 Caltrops: $300 → $250
xx3 Flash Bomb: $2000 → $1800
xx4 Sticky Bomb: $4500 → $4900
“ | Ninja Monkey is a little bit lacking in early game popping power, only being effectively utilised when paired with another tower like an Alchemist. We have made some price cuts and improvements so that its early and unused upgrades are slightly better. | ” |
~ Ninja Kiwi |
- 3.2
xx2 Caltrops: caltrops damage 1 → 3.
5-0-2 Grandmaster Ninja: Caltrops damage 1 → 30
xx2 Caltrops: caltrops drop every 4.4s → 9s
- 1-0-2 increases rate to every 5.6s
- 5-0-2 increases it to every 2.8s
5-1-0 Grandmaster Ninja: Distraction chance 25% → 100%
5-1-0 Grandmaster Ninja: projectiles now have a 15% chance of distracting MOABs (not BFBs and above) by a distance between 45-75
“ | The basic Caltrops change has been made so that they can pack more of a punch, since previously they often got disregarded as being insignificant. Additionally, they were known for contributing towards lag, especially if you had lots of them, so hopefully the slower attack rate will offer a slight improvement in this area. For 5xx Grandmaster Ninja, we’ve made 2 interesting crosspath changes. The middle path was never used as the preferred crosspath due to the distraction not being very relevant, so it has been greatly improved for 5xx by now including MOABs. For the bottom crosspath, although already the preferred choice, we wanted to buff it up anyway so that 5xx would be stronger overall now, since previously it was often more efficient to buy multiple 4xx Bloonjitsu Ninjas instead of a 5xx. The 5xx upgrade provides more shuriken and higher damage on them, yet Caltrops did not benefit from either of these things, so it provided negligible damage relative to the shuriken. It has received a massive damage buff so that it can now scale up with the shuriken and play a greater role in Grandmaster Ninja’s overall firepower. | ” |

- 3.2.4
Flash Bomb: Throws bomb every 4 → 3 attacks
Flash Bomb: stun length 1.3s → 1.1s
0-2-3 Flash Bomb: bomb now has an additional decamo attack with larger blast radius (no damage) with 65 range and 75 pierce.
5-1-0 Grandmaster Ninja: Can now distract BFBs. Chance of MOAB/BFB distraction 15% → 50% and MOAB blowback distance 45-75 → 60-100.
5-0-2 Grandmaster Ninja: Caltrops damage 30 → 25
“ | Ninja Monkey’s Flash Bomb and Counter Espionage upgrades have never been commonly used upgrades. By buffing the combination of them, we hope to open up a new use case for these upgrades and Ninja as a whole, a somewhat reliable decamo option. As for Grandmaster Ninja, we liked giving the crosspaths much more utility in the previous update, however it needs some adjusting - Caltrops was a little bit too powerful and Distraction could not compete. | ” |
~ Ninja Kiwi |
- 3.3
Base: pierce 2 → 3
3-0-2 Double Shot: caltrops damage 3 → 5
4-0-2 Bloonjitsu: caltrops damage 5 → 10
x5x Grand Saboteur: ability slow down effect can soak through MOAB class bloons
“ | We have increased Ninja’s early-game potential since it stood out as a tower with relatively low DPS in the early game, always depending on another tower to deal the damage or to buff it. Additionally, we have made x5x Ninja’s ability stall more reliable by letting the slow effect soak through MOAB class bloons (so a stalled ZOMG will now pop into stalled BFBs | ” |
~ Ninja Kiwi |
- 3.3.2
2-x-x Sharp Shurikens: $300 → $200 and increases pierce by 2 → 1
3-x-x Double Shot: $650 → $750
x-x-2 Caltrops: Caltrops can no longer receive any pierce buffs
x-x-4 Flash Bomb: Stun duration 1.1 → 1s
4-x-x Bloonjitsu: Caltrops damage 10 → 5
“ | Ninja Monkey has spiked up in popularity since the last update, with the Ninja + Alchemist combo standing out as overly strong in all stages of the game. We have made quite a few changes to address this, such as keeping the additional +1 pierce on the early tiers but taking it back off for 2xx, with some price rearranging to accommodate. Caltrops no longer benefit from pierce buffs which nerfs their interaction with Alchemist's buff, and Bloonjitsu's caltrops have additionally been nerfed. Bloonjitsu already stood out as a super effective upgrade even in the late game (when surrounded by Shinobi buffs), so the added caltrops damage is unnecessary. | ” |
~ Ninja Kiwi |
- 4.0.2
Base: Shuriken attack rate 0.7s → 0.62s
Ninja Discipline: Reduces all weapons’ attack rates by 38% → 30%
0-x-2: Caltrops attack rate 9s → 8s
0-x-4: Sticky bomb attack rate 5s → 4.5s
0-x-5: Sticky bomb attack rate 2s → 0.18s
- Note: This is not a typo; Master Bomber's attack speed was significantly increased.
“ | These changes buff 0xx Ninja upgrades while leaving 1xx Ninja upgrades unchanged. One major reason for this is so that 023 Ninja can be slightly more dependable. | ” |
~ Ninja Kiwi |
- 4.0.3
[Bugfix] 0-x-5: Sticky bomb attack rate 0.18s → 1.8s
- 4.1
Double Shot: $750 → $700
Bloon Sabotage: ability now soaks through MOAB-class bloons.
“ | Ever since Ninja’s major nerfs a few updates ago, it has not been at the level that we would like. We are very conscious to not repeat past mistakes and over-buff it’s early game, so we’re just making very small changes for now. Bloon Sabotage has also been changed so that it can be used more reliably and easily when defending ZOMGs and BFBs. | ” |
~ Ninja Kiwi |
- 4.2
Master Bomber: sticky bombs deal 850 → 1000 damage
“ | Ninja Monkey has been out of the limelight for a while now and so we would like improve it by targeting its late game support damage, rather than its early game which caused problems in the past. | ” |
~ Ninja Kiwi |
- 4.3
Grand Saboteur: cost decreased $25,000 → $20,000
Grand Saboteur: now grants all Shinobis, including itself, +10 range and +2 damage to MOAB-class bloons
“ | The Grand Saboteur is the weakest of the Ninja Monkey’s tier 5 upgrades. We are bringing over a popular balance change from BTD6 in order to improve its usage, although we are limiting it to only Ninjas in the Grand Saboteur’s range rather than a map wide buff to limit its interaction with other, more powerful combos. | ” |
