~ In-game description

Description[]

Overview[]

010 sniper camo prio example

0-1-0 Night Vision Goggles Sniper with Camo Prioritization On. It targets Camo Blacks instead of non-Camo Blacks

Night Vision Goggles changes the Sniper's beret from green to blue, or the color of other crosspaths if any, and it receives green goggles with a black strap covering the monkey's head. The goggles supposedly are night vision goggles.

When crosspathed with any upgrade except Tier 5, the Sniper is the same as its non-crosspathed counterpart except gains the green goggles. For Full Auto Rifle, the goggles are modified to have small lenses and are directly attached onto the helmet by a grip.

Night Vision Goggles grants camo detection to the Sniper, as well as dealing +2 damage to camos. It also gains Camo Prioritization.

Targeting Priorities[]

Night Vision Goggles targets bloons using the standard targeting priorities. It shoots a snipe attack.

  • First: Targets the first bloon visible within its range.
  • Last: Targets the last bloon visible within its range.
  • Close: Targets the closest bloon visible within its range.
  • Strong: Targets the strongest bloon visible within its range.

Night Vision Goggles receives Camo Prioritization, allowing it to prioritize Camo Bloons over other types.

Strategy[]

Summary[]

Night Vision Goggles not only gives the Sniper with the needed camo popping power, it also makes the Sniper an effective option at specifically countering Camo Bloons. Much of the power of Night Vision Goggles is centered in the early-game at handling early Camo Bloons, especially set on Strong and with the Camo Prioritization target option enabled.

Tips[]

  • While it is an alright upgrade, the main feature of this upgrade's crosspath is its successor, Shrapnel Shot. For Night Vision Goggles itself, it is mainly for handling early-game Camo Bloons.
  • Utilize the Camo Prioritization target priority to let Night Vision Goggles take advantage of the +2 damage versus camos as well as to snipe out spaced Camos.
  • 1-1-0 is the cheapest upgrade that grants camo detection and lead-popping, of which this attribute is mainly useful for ABR Round 24.
    • The first cheapest option is Ezili, who can do this at Level 1.
  • Just a single 1-1-0 Sniper set on Strong and with Camo Prioritization on can solo all camos on Easy difficulty, assuming sufficient Line of Sight. The same Sniper set on those settings can also be used to weaken the Round 42 Camo Rainbows greatly for cheap.
  • A 3-2-0 and a 0-2-4 Sniper (with lead popping power) can handle all camos on Medium difficulty. However, more firepower is required to handle Round 78, making this strategy unfeasible for Hard difficulty or higher.
  • There are some use cases of keeping Night Vision Snipers without Shrapnel Shot. For instance, if needing to snipe out strong Camos without interruptions from any produced shrapnel. While it is less so the case for higher-tier Snipers, trying out Night Vision Goggles without Shrapnel Shot may be useful on rounds with few or no MOAB-class bloons.

Version History[]

Balance Changes[]

Creatively, a buff for Path 2 crosspathing has been given to this upgrade by allowing the bullet to deal extra damage to Camo Bloons, starting from Version 11.0. Version 28.0 buffed Night Vision Goggles yet again to be a further camo specialization by introducing Camo Prioritization to various camo-detecting upgrades including this upgrade.

11.0
  • BUFF Night Vision Goggles now allows the Sniper Monkey to deal +2 damage to Camo Bloons. Only affects main bullet.
20.0
  • BUFF Affected by base Sniper attack speed buff
28.0
Instead of saying the same thing each time; many specific crosspaths that add a 'camo specialty' to a tower end up being viewed as rather inferior crosspaths due to camo being quite available to pick up through other methods. To give these upgrades more use even with other forms of camo reveal in play, we have added a brand new Camo Prioritization option that is added to the towers when taking this crosspath. When enabled this filter combines the selected target method with Camo Prioritization (e.g. Strong Camo would work through all Camos in strength order, then revert to normal Strong until any new Camos show up). Individual Monkeys are called out below.

  • BUFF Night Vision Goggles now grants Sniper Monkey the new Camo Prioritization filter
41.0
Sniper Monkey has some very powerful upgrades but also many poor stepping stones. We felt this tower needed a big price shuffle all around, pushing down the cost of many underwhelming upgrades but returning this back into stronger upgrades.
~ Ninja Kiwi
  • BUFF Night Vision Goggles price reduced from $300 to $250

Trivia[]

  • Night Vision Goggles was the first upgrade in BTD6 that dealt increased damage to a bloon with a special property other than Fortified, Lead, Ceramic, or MOAB-class.
    • It remained the only upgrade (including its derivatives) to deal extra damage to camo, until Sauda was released in Version 24.0. Her Level 19+ upgrade allows her to deal extra damage to various bloon types.
    • As of Version 31.0, Monkey Ace can deal +1 damage to Camo Bloons when upgraded to Spy Plane, making Sniper Monkey no longer the only non-hero tower to gain bonus damage to Camo.
  • The Version 11.0 buff to Night Vision Goggles in BTD6 was likely inspired by the Dragon Eyes trinket in Bloons Adventure Time TD.
  • All Snipers with the Night Vision Goggles upgrade will wear night vision goggles, except for all Tier 5 upgrades.
  • The blue beret given to Night Vision Goggles is likely the same as its BTD5 counterpart, whose previous upgrade Faster Firing changes color of the beret to blue.
