Monkey Knowledge is an enhancement system in Bloons TD 6 that allows the player to unlock incremental improvements for their towers. There are 6 different upgrade trees for Primary Monkeys, Military Monkeys, Magic Monkeys, Support Monkeys, Heroes, and Powers. Each tree features many different upgrades and perks that can be unlocked with Monkey Knowledge Points.
Starting from Level 30, almost every level up will reward the player with 1 Knowledge Point to use. Some upgrades require a certain amount of points to be spent in the tree before being unlocked and are lower on their tree. Previous upgrades have to be unlocked to unlock upgrades further down the tree that are more powerful. More Knowledge Points may be earned through achievements, and it takes 134 points to unlock all of the upgrades. The total amount that can be earned (by reaching level 155 and getting all achievements with Knowledge Point rewards) is actually 138.
It is possible to immediately reach Level 30 by going to the Monkey Knowledge menu and buying the purchase that unlocks Rank 30 immediately to start earning Monkey Knowledge. However, it costs $9.99 USD, and level 30 can often be reached very quickly so it is generally not advised. A single Monkey Knowledge Point can also be purchased for $0.99 USD.
Monkey Knowledge can be toggled on or off. This can be helpful for testing towers or for practicing C.H.I.M.P.S. mode. A respec option allows the player's Monkey Knowledge to be reset for a cost of 2,000. Using this will refund all spent Monkey Knowledge Points so players can assign them to other Knowledge, and any Monkey Money invested in a Knowledge Point does not need to be reinvested.
In Version 15.0, a change was made where the fourth row of upgrades and further would also require Monkey Money to be purchased. This was done to balance out more powerful Monkey Knowledge upgrades and force the player to either consider buying the Monkey Knowledge point or save up their Monkey Money for other purposes.
The Monkey Money requirements for each knowledge point increases per row, with the fourth row of points costing 250, the fifth costing 500, and the sixth costing 1,000. Subsequent rows are fixed at the same price as the sixth row. Unlocking Monkey Knowledge points from the lower rows of a tree after purchasing a respec will not charge Monkey Money if those points had been unlocked previously.
Knowledge Rewards[]
It costs one Knowledge Point to access a new upgrade. For further upgrades, it may require a specific number of points already invested in that tree before unlocking the upgrade, so note them in the tables.
(The "Requires X Points" statement can be ambiguous. It means that a certain number of Monkey Knowledge must be invested in a specific Monkey Knowledge group in order to unlock the upgrade that requires X points, not that it can be unlocked upon the Xth investment into the specific Monkey Knowledge group. For example, "Requires 3 Points" means that there has to be at least 3 Monkey Knowledge Points invested above the displayed requirements line.)

Strategy[]
Summary[]
Strategization of the Monkey Knowledge system involves progression in general gameplay. To accumulate Monkey Knowledge Points quicker, level up faster to earn more Monkey Knowledge Points, or achieve some Monkey Knowledge Points via certain Achievements. Some Monkey Knowledge at the top of the trees provide significant advantages in terms of unlocking the game's full potential, some examples being Extra Dart Pops (+1 Dart Monkey pierce) and Mo' Monkey Money (+10% MM per game). Eventually, the player will need to plan ahead to access the powerful MK at the lower branches of the tree as efficiently as possible. Take note that additional requirements are necessary to access deeper Monkey Knowledge.
Early MK[]
The following are a selection of tips about unlocking Monkey Knowledge near the top of the MK Trees, as well as players who only recently unlocked Level 30 and above.
- Extra Dart Pops: The bonus pierce greatly assists early-game Dart Monkey strategies, thanks to the +1 pierce for a very cheap tower. Also extremely helpful on Half Cash with 0-0-0 Dart.
- Naval Upgrades: Like Extra Dart Pops, the bonus pierce greatly assists the general power of Monkey Subs and Monkey Buccaneers. Naval Upgrades is helpful for these water towers, as both of these options heavily involve projectiles with low pierce but many quick projectiles. Also extremely helpful on Half Cash with 0-0-0 Sub.
- Lingering Magic: In addition to progressing towards many of the stronger Magic MK, Lingering Magic's projectile lifespan increase helps increase the uptime of Wall of Fire.
- Mo' Monkey Money: All players, especially newer players, should utilize this MK to maximize Monkey Money generation from normal gameplay of the game. To unlock it, Lingering Magic and Speedy Brewing are required in that order; it takes up to 3 MK Points to unlock Mo' Monkey Money.
Middle MK[]
The following are a section of tips about unlocking Monkey Knowledge around the middle of the MK Trees.
This section is incomplete. You can help by expanding it. |
- Master Double Cross: The capability to place a second Crossbow Master enables any MK-enabling game mode to use that second Crossbow Master for further DPS, and particularly in the context of excelling during Boss Bloon Events it accesses an easy way of obtaining a Degree 22 Apex Plasma Master instead of Degree 1.
- Bigger Banks: It increases bank capacity by $2500, which enhances Monkey Bank strategies. Waiting an extra round or two for an already high amount of stored cash is advantageous for maximizing income gain from Banks.
- Hero Favors: It reduces base cost of Heroes by 10%, making them more accessible for the early-game, allowing for an easier headstart to leveling up.
Late MK[]
The following are a section of tips about unlocking Monkey Knowledge towards the bottom of the MK Trees, as well as once an excess of MK Points is obtained:
This section is incomplete. You can help by expanding it. |
- Bonus Monkey! and More Cash: These are among the most important MK to obtain in the Primary MK Tree. With these MK, the extra savings in the early-game widen the diversity of starting options.
- It takes a bare minimum of 15 Monkey Knowledge Points to unlock "More Cash" in the Primary MK Tree. One possible method to do so is to purchase Fast Tack Attacks, Increased Lifespan, Extra Dart Pops, Fast Glue, Crossbow Reach, More Splatty Glue, 4 And 4, Cheap 'Rangs, Aviation Grade Glue, Master Double Cross, Cheaper Solution, Come on Everybody!, Bonus Glue Gunner, Bonus Monkey!, and then More Cash in that order.
- Military Conscription: Discounting the first Military Monkey by 33% enhances early-game strategies involving Military Monkeys.
- Big Bloon Sabotage: It is helpful in general gameplay and extreme late-game runs by decreasing some HP from the outer layers of MOAB-class bloons, especially BADs.
- It takes a bare minimum of 15 Monkey Knowledge Points to unlock "Big Bloon Sabotage" in the Military Tree.
- Mana Shield: Mana Shield protects a few leaking lives outside of Impoppable (and obviously outside of CHIMPS).
- It takes a bare minimum of 9 Monkey Knowledge Points to unlock "Mana Shield". One possible method to unlock it is to purchase Lingering Magic, Magic Tricks, Speedy Brewing, Mo' Monkey Money, Hot Magic, Flame Jet, Arcane Impale, and then Mana Shield in that order.
- Bank Deposits: Bank Deposits assists in maximizing income gain from IMF Loan via the Bank Deposit functionality.
- Healthy Bananas: Earning extra lives from Marketplaces and Central Markets allows for generation of lives without need to activate abilities.
- Empowered Heroes: This is an important MK for leveling up Heroes immediately to Level 3 for a large headstart.
- Unless on a glut of MK Points, avoid most Monkey Knowledge in the Power MK Tree, with exception of Pre-Game Prep.
- Pre-Game Prep: Upon starting each game, automatically places Road Spikes at all exits. This is very helpful on Impoppable in particular, since Mana Shield is banned on that game mode.
- Paragon of Power: Allowing a Paragon to attack substantially faster without additional T5’s of that same tower type is a powerful asset for MK-enabled Boss runs in particular.
Disadvantages of MK[]
Monkey Knowledge can occasionally introduce new challenges with strategization. Some of these MK Points require adaptation to retain a net advantage of the unlocked MK Points.
- All first-of-a-kind discount MK (e.g. Military Conscription, First Last Line of Defense, etc.) and free monkey MK ( Bonus Monkey!, Bonus Glue Gunner): Decreasing costs may complicate calculations involving money-based sacrifices, such as from Sun Temple, True Sun God (including Vengeful True Sun God) and Paragons. Although not as impactful as increasing sellback, make sure to take into account minor discounts when undertaking precise cost thresholds for sacrifices. You can also buy and sell the tower to neutralize these specific types of discounts.
- All universal discount MK (e.g. Cheaper Doubles, Aeronautic Subsidy, Advanced Logistics): Decreasing costs may complicate calculations involving money-based sacrifices, such as from Sun Temple, True Sun God (including Vengeful True Sun God) and Paragons. Although not as impactful as increasing sellback, make sure to take into account minor discounts when undertaking precise cost thresholds for sacrifices.
- All increased sellback MK ( Flat Pack Buildings, Better Sell Deals): Increased sellback may complicate calculations involving money-based sacrifices, such as from Sun Temple, True Sun God (including Vengeful True Sun God) and Paragons. Remember to calculate slightly more sellback money when evaluating precise cost thresholds for sacrifices.
- Emergency Unlock: Remember that Emergency Unlock introduces an additional ability button. To avoid this button from appearing in the abilities menu, make sure all Dartlings are only set on Normal.
- Empowered Heroes: Geraldo requires immediate placement plus his Rare Quincy Action Figure on the same round in order to allow his Rare Quincy Action Figure to be purchased for its cheapest. Doing so helps keep his strong income-generating prowess.
Certain types of Monkey Knowledge Points are strictly disadvantageous for some types of strategies. Depending on specific strategies involving Monkey Knowledge, certain MK Points may be harmful for strategies. Some MK Points can be avoided completely, but some are inevitable in the progression towards stronger MK, and already unlocked MK Points cannot be manually turned off individually.
- Big Bloon Sabotage: This MK lowers the outer layer HP of MOAB-class bloons by 10%, which can be disadvantageous for accruing maximum pops for Paragons. Competitive Ranked Boss Players are advised to use the Respec button to manually turn off this MK, allowing to-be Paragons to gain maximum pops.
- Targeted Pineapples: Targeted Pineapples changes the location of pineapples to only target tracks, similarly to Bomber Ace. For some players, the specific timing of pineapples landing erratically is superior to only targeting tracks, as the pineapple locations without this MK become more consistent with the timing of the Ace's movements, rather than the positions of the nearby track. Unfortunately, as Targeted Pineapples is a prerequisite of deeper Ace-related MK, this MK cannot be feasibly avoided.
- Wingmonkey: The added Wingmonkey targeting option is considered by some players to be a nuisance to Ace micro, as the unpredictable nature of the eponymous targeting option can interrupt the positions of Aces.
- Acid Stability: The longer acid pool lifespan may worsen income generation from Rubber to Gold, as the extra puddles eat up more bloons that could have been coated with golden potions. However, it could be somewhat more useful for Lead to Gold's lead income generation, as the extra pools allow more opportunities for this Alchemist to pop Leads. As Acid Stability is not a prerequisite of any other MK, it can be turned off.
Additional Tips[]
- A few MK can be unlocked off the bat with no prerequisites.
- Primary: Fast Tack Attacks, Increased Lifespan, Extra Dart Pops
- Military: Naval Upgrades, Airforce Upgrades, Elite Military Training, Emergency Unlock
- Magic: SUPER Range, Lingering Magic, Magic Tricks
- Support: Flat Pack Buildings, One More Spike
- Heroes: Heroic Reach, More 'Splody, Ability Discipline
- Powers: Bigger Camo Trap, Just One More, Cheaper Lakes
- There are a decent amount of Achievements that grant MK Points, which will help unlock all MK Trees much faster.
- Bloons Master is an easy achievement to obtain, as it only involves beating any CHIMPS game. It rewards 1 MK Point.
- All for One and One for One can easily be done on most water-containing Beginner Maps by using a single 0-5-2 Pirate Lord. Beating this Achievement gives 1 MK Point.

Trivia[]
- It costs a total of 33000 to unlock all Monkey Knowledge as of version 30.0.
- The Engineer Monkey was the icon for the support tower knowledge even before it was added to Bloons TD 6.
- "Big Bloon Sabotage" is the same name of the Monkey Lab upgrade in Bloons TD 5. It retains a similar effect, reducing the health of the MOAB-class bloons.
- In order to obtain all upgrades for all the categories of Monkey Knowledge, the player must achieve Level 155, assuming that no extra packs have been purchased or earned from achievements or other sources.
- "Weak Point" is the only Monkey Knowledge that requires all other Knowledge in the tree in order to unlock it.
- "More Cash" is the most expensive Monkey Knowledge in the game, requiring a total of 4,500 invested in the Primary tree to unlock.
- It takes a bare minimum of 14 Monkey Knowledge Points to unlock "More Cash" in the Primary tree.
- One possible method to do so is to purchase Fast Tack Attacks, Increased Lifespan, Extra Dart Pops, Fast Glue, Crossbow Reach, More Splatty Glue, 4 And 4, Cheap 'Rangs, Aviation Grade Glue, Master Double Cross, Cheaper Solution, Come on Everybody!, Bonus Glue Gunner, Bonus Monkey!, and then More Cash in that order.
- It takes a bare minimum of 15 Monkey Knowledge Points to unlock "Big Bloon Sabotage" in the Military tree.

- The "Violent Impact" Monkey Knowledge was formerly deemed more harmful than good since Bloon Impact/Bloon Crush stuns could not refresh upon a new stun. This was changed as of Version 8.0, since now those upgrades can refresh their own stuns.
- The "Naval Upgrades" Monkey Knowledge essentially turns the Monkey Buccaneer's main dart attack pierce and grape pierce to what it was in BTD5: 5 pierce per dart, and 2 pierce per grape.
- 10 Knowledge Points can be bought for $7.99 USD, while 1 MK Point can be bought for $0.99 USD.
