Tips[]

  • Buccaneer footprint is slightly smaller at the top than the bottom. Therefore, if needing to cram as many Buccaneers as possible, start from the top and go downwards later.
    • An example can be demonstrated on Quiet Street; going from top to bottom allows up to 21 to be adequately placed, but going the other way only fits around 19.

Strategies[]

Monkey Buccaneer can either be used to make money or be a naval unit to stop all incoming bloons.

Path 1 (Top Path)

When going top path, you should always crosspath 32x+ as the grapes are affected by double shot, meaning 10 grapes + 2 darts per shot.

Grapes + darts only do 1 damage, meaning 4xx or 3xx do +2 and +1 damage respectively, basically doubling and tripling the DPS of destroyer. Grapes in general when alch buffed are great as they have 10 projectiles per shot, meaning +1 damage does +10 per shot effectively, unlike with towers that shoot 1 projectile like dart monkey, which only get +1 damage per shot.

Good synergies are towers like: Admiral Brickell (Naval tactics is 2x attack speed when lvl 3), Radar Scanner (Monkey Village x2x) or Submerge and Support (Monkey Sub 3xx) for Camo detection, as 32x+ Buccaneers do not have Camo detection on their own.

Embrittlement and Glue Strike for the extra damage is always helpful, effectively tripling the DPS, and when combined with Brickell lvl 3 can cause the damage to skyrocket.

Path 2 (Middle Path)

Cannon Ship is great for dealing with grouped bloons, and t4+ have three cannons. The MOAB Takedown ability is a reliable way to deal with waves 40 and 60, making it great for Medium difficulty and below, as BFBs and MOABs can be one-shot. 5k is savable in these modes. However, they fall off when unaided in the late game, due to the overwhelming number of MOAB-class bloons in general, mostly ZOMGs. They are still a viable option in the late game, however, as Monkey Pirates can take down DDTs, provided they have Camo Detection upgrades or buffs (or DDTs are being revealed by an effect such as Submerge and Support). Additionally, the Pirate Lord's takedown ability can take down ZOMGs using 2 of their 3 hooks, and generate more cash from taking down MOAB-class bloons, providing a boost to income if the ability is regularly used.

Path 3 (Bottom Path):

Moving into xx2 upgrades for a Monkey Buccaneer is a viable strategy in the early game for getting Camo detection for a powerful tower, especially when combined into x22 for lead-popping on top of that; however, as the game progresses, Camo detection synergies with other towers are a better approach for maximizing Buccaneer damage.

While farms are, in [the] opinion [of the individual who wrote this article before], better for making money, Merchantmen (xx3+ Buccaneers) can give good amounts of cash. Ideally you want to get as many Favored Trades as possible as they give 500$ per round, so if you could get 6 that's $3000 per round, and if you managed to get 10 you get $5000 every round. From then try to get Trade Empire on one, and just farm up more Favored Trades from that point. When you have multiple Merchantmen, upgrading a Banana Farm to Central Market (xx4) will boost all Merchantmen income.
