“ | Spend your money wisely. You get less after round 50, and even less after 60. | ” |
~ Round 48 in Bloons TD 4 |
Money, also known as Cash, is the main currency in the Bloons Tower Defense series and the mini-games of Bloons Monkey City (which have a style similar to BTD5). Players use money to buy towers, upgrades, and other special items. In Bloons TD 4, Bloons TD 5, and Bloons TD 6, the player can buy a Premium Upgrade called Double Cash Mode, which gives the player twice the money for each Bloon popped and also starts the player out with twice the regular amount. No extra money is earned during Deflation Mode. Money generation is halved during Half Cash Mode. All income excluding cash per pop income is disabled in C.H.I.M.P.S. Mode.
Money has a "maximum limit", that amount depending on the type of game it is played on. Bloons TD 4 iOS is at about $81,000,000, at that point the money increasing slows down to a crawl of normal. Bloons TD 5 Deluxe is limited to precisely $45,000,000, players cannot earn more, even utilizing abilities. All other games have an arbitrarily high cap, usually the 32-bit integer maximum.
Starting Cash[]
Throughout all of the Bloons Tower Defense series, the player starts off with $650, regardless of difficulty.
In Bloons Monkey City, however, because as the Bloons continuously get more and more difficult depending on tile difficulty, it has a different system of what amount of cash the player starts off with. At Level 1, the player normally starts off with $350 cash, but gets a bonus $100 for each new level. The equation for how much cash to start is 250 + 100x (when "x" means the level of player). Thus, at the highest level, Level 40, the player starts with up to $4250 (unless influenced by Special Missions, Special Items or Supply Crates).
In Bloons TD 6, a Monkey Knowledge Point called More Cash increases the player's starting cash by 200, and Double Cash doubles that amount.
Obtaining Money[]
There are five ways you can get money:
- The first way is by popping Bloons:
Type BTD BTD2 BTD3 BTD4 BTD5 BMC BTD6 Red Bloons 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 Blue Bloons 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 Green Bloons 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 Yellow Bloons 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 Pink Bloons N/A N/A N/A 5 5 5 5 Black Bloons 9 9 9 11 11 (6) 11 (6) 11 (6) White Bloons 9 9 9 11 11 (6) 11 (6) 11 (6) Purple Bloons N/A N/A N/A N/A N/A N/A 11 (6) Camo Bloons (BTD4) N/A N/A N/A 11 N/A N/A N/A Lead Bloons N/A 19 19 23 23 (7) 23 (7) 23 (7) Zebra Bloons N/A N/A N/A 23 23 (7) 23 (7) 23 (7) Rainbow Bloons N/A 37 37 47 47 (8) 47 (8) 47 (8) Ceramic Bloons N/A N/A 73 95 95 95 95 M.O.A.B. - During Freeplay Mode in BTD5 and BTD6, all non-MOAB class Bloons only have one child. As a consequence, the money they give is reduced (except for Ceramics in BTD6, which give extra money to counteract this).
- The second way is by earning Bonus Money by winning rounds:
- In BTD5, players get $99 plus the number of the round, e.g. 100 for round 1, 101 for round 2, and so on...
- In BTD6, it's $100 plus the number of the round.
- The third way is by using various towers or heroes that have upgrades to give you money. These include:
- Banana Farm which has either 1(BTD4), 2(BTD5),(BMC), or 3(BTD6),(BTDB2) very different ways of providing money each round.
- The COBRA's Wired Funds upgrade in BTDB.
- The Engineer's Bloon Trap and XXXL Trap.
- Support Chinook and Special Poperations Special Ability for the Heli Pilot.
- Supply Drop and Elite Sniper Special Ability for the Sniper Monkey.
- Sun Temple, True Sun God, and Vengeful True Sun God with support tower sacrifice upgrade for the Super Monkey in BTD6.
- Merchantman, Favored Trades, Trade Empire, Monkey Pirates, Pirate Lord, and Navarch of the Seas upgrade for the Buccaneer in BTD6.
- Jungle's Bounty and Spirit of the Forest upgrade for the Druid in BTD6.
- The Monkeyopolis upgrade for the Village in BTD6.
- The Benjamin Hero in BTD6.
- Obyn Greenfoot's Wall of Trees ability.
- Geraldo's Rare Quincy Action Figure item.
- The fourth way is by using tower upgrades or heroes that gives bonus Bloon and tower income:
- Bloons that get popped by towers within the range of a Monkey Town give you 50% (60% with Inland Revenue Streams MK) more cash than normal.
- Almost all towers and Heroes that generate income within the range of a Monkey City gets 15% more cash than normal.
- Lead Bloons affected by Lead to Gold give $50. This doesn't affect DDTs.
- Bloons affected by Rubber to Gold has triple the income.
- Benjamin's upgrades:
- "Bank Hack" makes all Monkey Banks and its upgrades earn 5% more income on level 5, and 12% more income on level 12.
- "Bloon Trojan" is sent every few seconds and affects Bloons. Affected Bloons spawns no children when destroyed and produces 1 extra cash for every layer. Bloon Trojan is upgraded at level 16.
- "Syphon Funding" downgrades most newly spawn Bloons by 1 rank and gives double cash per pop. Lasts for 10 seconds. On level 20, it lasts for 20 seconds and gives triple cash per pop.
- Geraldo's Fertilizer which only affects Banana Farms. (Doesn't affect Monkey Banks and Marketplaces).
- The fifth way is by using Powers:
- By purchasing a Cash Injection with Monkey Money in BTD4, BTD5, and BTDB which gives 10,000 money, or purchasing and using a Cash Drop power in BTD6 which gives 2500 money.
- The BTD6 Thrive power increases the income by 25% (30% with Supa-Thrive MK) for the current and the next round in which it's used.
- The Double Cash mode which doubles cash per pop and starting cash.

There is a sliding cash factor in BMC which means as the difficulty gets higher, the cash penalties will happen sooner.
The formula used for how many rounds sooner/later the penalties happen is determined by: round(6 - difficulty * 0.15)
The highest tier's (Tier 9) contested territory in BMC uses regular Normal Mode formula. This also applies when you play Medium Difficulty via Replay Tracks on level 40.

Trivia[]
- In BTD5, players earn a total of $124,458 between rounds 1-85 without anything to increase their income.
- In BTD6 C.H.I.M.P.S. mode, players earn a total of $178,994 between rounds 6-100. Therefore, it is impossible to purchase True Sun God, Legend of the Night, and Paragons due to their total upgrade costs exceeding the money available. While Super Mines is affordable as of update 35, doing so in practice is extremely difficult due to its previous upgrade, Spiked Mines, being unable to survive long enough on its own to get the required money.
- According to Ninja Kiwi's August 20th 2021 blog, monkeys canonically can control the money in such a way that avoids inflation caused by the overproduction of money, thanks to managing deflation effectively.
