Official Name The term "Manual Targeting" is a term popularized by fans and is confirmed by official sources (e.g. in-game, Ninja Kiwi blog). |
Manual Targeting (also referred as Selectable Target, Selectable Deployment) is a target priority added to Bloons TD 6 in Version 29.0, initially for Cleansing Foam, Bloon Trap with Larger Service Area, and Obyn Greenfoot's Wall of Trees. It is a secondary target option that adds a green button. In BTD6, this Manual Targeting button is a green button to the right of the upgrade portrait (or a green button on the main targeting priorities prior to BTD6 Version 36.0). In BTDB2, it is a green button on the main targeting priorities.
When this targeting priority is interacted, it allows certain On-Track attacks to follow a single targetable location. On-Track attacks default on Close and can be retargeted anywhere within the tower's immediate range, including range given by range buffs. For most towers with Manual Targeting, if target location is outside range, which is only possible by means of losing range buffs, the target location defaults back to Close. An exception to targeting locations is Necromancer: Unpopped Army and Prince of Darkness, which can only ever be targeted directly onto track and within range of that tower. Certain towers, such as Arctic Knight, Popseidon, Symphonic Resonance, and The Final Harmonic can target the reticle anywhere on screen, but has a lengthy cooldown attached to set and un-set the reticle.
In Bloons TD Battles 2, it was introduced in Version 1.3.0, for Cleansing Foam, Bloon Trap (all crosspaths), Obyn's Brambles and Wall of Trees, and Ocean Guardian's Living Coral.

- Ninja Kiwi mentioned "manual targeting" in their Version 1.7.1 patch notes post for Bloons TD Battles 2 when addressing a nerf to Bloon Trap that now requires middle crosspath for aforementioned targeting priority.
