MOAB-Class Bloons, also referred as Blimps, are huge zeppelin-shaped Bloons, often packing significantly high RBE, requiring hundreds to thousands of hits to pop the exterior layers. Previously called "Boss Bloons" (not to be confused with the later introduced Boss Bloons, a special class of singular MOAB-class bloon monstrosities), MOAB-Class Bloons act as the tank classes of Bloonkind. Because of the extreme health of all MOAB-class Bloons, every type of MOAB-class bloon starting from Bloons TD 4 each has damage phases to quantatively indicate damage by percentage values. Most MOAB-class bloons have multiple Bloon children, usually 4 of the same type (e.g. popping a MOAB spawns 4 Ceramic Bloons). However, MOAB-class bloons have larger hitboxes than standard bloons and are vulnerable to sources of bonus blimp damage (notably from the MOAB Mauler).

Its name derives from the Massive Ornary Air Blimp (MOAB), the eponymous example of a MOAB-Class Bloon. The MOAB debuts in Bloons TD 3, and every mainline series of the game introduces an increasingly higher blimp type above the previously highest ranking bloons: the Brutal Floating Behemoth (BFB) in Bloons TD 4, the Zeppelin Of Mighty Gargantuaness (ZOMG) in Bloons TD 5, and the Big Airship of Doom (BAD) in Bloons TD 6. The Dark Dirigible Titan (DDT) was introduced in Bloons Monkey City and has been released in all Bloons TD 6 Generation games of the tower defense genre.

In the Bloons TD 6 Generation, the Fortified Bloon property can apply to all MOAB-class Bloons except Boss Bloons.

MOAB-Class Bloon Categories[]

Two distinct categories of MOAB-Class Bloon categories exist:

  • Standard MOAB-Class Bloons, a sub-class of MOAB-class Bloon that is capable of spawning in waves of standard Bloons TD series gameplay.
  • Boss Bloons, a sub-class of MOAB-class Bloon for singular gigantic enemy threats, many of which can produce Boss Minions that aid the survival of them.

Properties[]

MOAB-class Bloons are bulkier than the standard bloon types (up to Ceramic Bloon). Almost all tower types can target them, but some tower types (such as the Ice Monkey and Glue Gunner without special upgrades) simply refuse to target them. Each MOAB-class Bloon possesses extreme health, is more resistant to weaker status effects that are only fully effective against ordinary bloon types, but also vulnerable to blimp-specific status effects (such as Cripple MOAB's stun).

MOAB-class Bloons have the following properties:

  • Very high RBE. Most MOAB-class bloons have high enough RBE to immediately end the game should they leak, losing hundreds or thousands of lives in that process. True Boss Bloons always trigger a game over if they leak.
  • Slower than the average bloon type. With exception of some types such as the DDT and a warping Reality Warper Phayze, most MOAB-class bloons are as slow or slower than a Red Bloon (the most basic Bloon in the entire game series).
  • Immunity to weaker types of glue, most types of freezing, and smaller tornadoes. Prior to the Bloons TD 6 Generation, glue cannot affect MOAB-class bloons whatsoever, with exception of Bloons TD Battles Mobile where T3+ Glue Gunners can now stick glue onto blimps at a weaker effect.
    • In the Bloons TD 6 Generation, Corrosive Glue and MOAB Glue can both target MOAB-class bloons and affect them, albeit lasting half as long.
    • In Battles 1 Mobile, T3+ Glue Gunners can glue and harm MOAB-class bloons, with half the slowdown and damage-over-time values.
  • MOAB-class bloons cannot inherit Camo Bloon or Regrow Bloon properties unless themselves can have any of the properties themselves naturally. The DDT and Reality Warper Phayze can naturally have the Camo property.
  • All standard types of MOAB-class Bloons can acquire the Fortified Bloon property, which increases their total health by double, and pass them down into most of their offspring.
  • Extra resistance to ordinary types of stripping or disability status effects. Only specially blimp-specific status effects (such as Cripple MOAB's stun) can affect them.
  • All standard types of MOAB-class bloons gain more health and speed in freeplay as the game goes on.
  • Starting from the Bloons TD 6 Generation, MOAB-class bloons cannot pass on damage or status effects to its offspring, unless an attack can specifically penetrate damage through MOAB-class bloons. These exceptions include a variety of special upgrades, which often includes certain abilities, including but not exclusive to: Ground Zero, Tsar Bomba, First Strike Capability, Tech Terror, The Anti-Bloon; instakill via Monkey Pirates, Pirate Lord, XXXL Trap, or Bloon Master Alchemist (technically doesn't count as an instakill, but still applies to this rule); or if affected by Benjamin's Bloon Trojan or Ezili's MOAB Hex.

Standard MOAB-Class Bloons[]

Mini MOAB[]

Mini-MOAB

Mini MOAB

The Mini MOAB only appears in Bloons Super Monkey 2 and the mobile version. The Mini MOAB has an RBE of 150, and after 100 hits, it explodes in a lot of Red Bloons and Yellow Bloons. It is a tiny grey blimp, smaller than the MOAB, with no eye symbols.

MOAB (Massive Ornary Air Blimp)[]

The Massive Ornary Air Blimp (MOAB, aka the "Mother of all Bloons") was the first MOAB-Class Bloon, introduced in Bloons TD 3 as the M.O.A.B.. The MOAB is distinguishable by its blue and white colors. It has an RBE of 616 in BTD5 onwards (536 in BTD3, 613 in BTD4). Destroying the outer layer of a MOAB takes up to 200 hits, and upon popping releases 4 Ceramic Bloons.

BFB (Brutal Floating Behemoth)[]

The Brutal Floating Behemoth (BFB) is the next tier above the Massive Ornary Air Blimp, and was the second MOAB-class Bloon to be released, introduced in Bloons TD 4 as the B.F.B.. The BFB is distinguishable from the MOAB as a fatter and red-colored blimp with angry white eye symbols on its front sides and an icon on its back. Prior to the Bloons TD 6 Generation, the logo consists of a No Symbol over a monkey; since then, it has become two white arcs (sort of like the Sonic Boom upgrade in BTD5). Having a considerably large RBE of 3164 (2884 in BTD4), the BFB and its descendants can easily push through unprepared defenses. After 700 hits, the BFB releases four MOABs.

ZOMG (Zeppelin of Mighty Gargantuaness)[]

BTD63DZOMG

ZOMG in BTD6.

The Zeppelin of Mighty Gargantuaness, sometimes called the Zoh My God, is the third MOAB Class Bloon that had first debuted in Bloons Tower Defense 5. ZOMGs are huge, sluggish, and extremely resistant Bloons with a whopping RBE of 16,656, taking 4000 hits before releasing four BFBs. This blimp has new properties, being resistant to numerous special abilities, including but not limited to MOAB Takedown Ability and MOAB Assassin, though the MOAB Assassin will do 750 damage. A skull symbol serves as the final piece of decoration for this blimp. An excellent defense is required to pop multiple of these. As of now, the Monkey Sub's First Strike Capability, and Ezili's M.O.A.B hex, as well as the Pirate Lord ability are the only abillities that can destroy a ZOMG whole (though some Bloons may survive the ability). When highly damaged, the skull of the ZOMG appears cracked and has a bandage over the crack.

DDT (Dark Dirigible Titan)[]

BTD63DDDT

DDT in BTD6.

The Dark Dirigible Titan is the fourth and fastest MOAB Class Bloon that made its debut in Bloons Monkey City. They move at a speed of a Pink Bloon in BMC and 75% the speed of a Pink Bloon in BTD6. It has an RBE of 816 in Bloons TD 6 and an RBE 974 in Bloons Monkey City.

DDTs have black and grey stripes throughout. It is encased with metal armor, along with a pair of wings. Its appearance resembles its abilities: Lead, Camo, and Black in BMC Flash, plus its speed, making it a dangerous Bloon to unprepared defenses. In BMC Mobile, DDTs do not have the Camo and Lead properties. It also releases four Camo Regrowth Ceramic Bloons after 400 hits. The DDT's children cannot regenerate back into DDTs with the exception of a patched bug in Bloons Adventure Time TD. Formerly, in Bloons Monkey City, the DDT takes 350 hits before it releases six Camo Regrowth Ceramic Bloons. The DDT's camo properties can be removed by some upgrades of towers such as the Monkey Sub's Submerge and Support and Wizard Monkey's Shimmer upgrade. When DDTs are decamoed, then it releases Regrowth Ceramic Bloons without Camo property.

DDTs in Bloons Monkey City always come in groups of three, including consecutive groups, such as six, nine, twelve, fifteen, or even eighteen DDTs (this situation is actually possible if there are no ZOMGs on the last round when you play impoppable tiles on city level 40) coming out one after the other, except for Monkey vs Monkey attacks, where they come in packs of only 2 DDTs (and even though you cannot send DDTs at all in BMC Mobile, they can rarely appear on ZOMG attacks).

DDTs in Bloons TD 6 tend to appear in groups similarly in Bloons Monkey City. The first DDTs appear in Round 90 or Round 88 in Alternate Bloon Rounds. They also appear around Round 81-99 in Apopalypse mode. The most notable rounds that have significant amounts of DDTs are rounds 90, 95, and 99. After those rounds, DDTs continue being spawned in Freeplay, still they appear in dense groups on some pre-determined rounds (106, 117, 118, 126, 128, 138).

BAD (Big Airship of Doom)[]

BTD63DBAD

The BAD in BTD6.

The Big Airship of Doom is the fifth and strongest non-boss MOAB-Class Bloon that first debuted in Bloons TD 6. With a whopping health of 20,000 (40,000 when Fortified) and an RBE of a tremendous 55,760, which is much greater compared to the ZOMG. BADs are insanely powerful as they are immune to even more abilities than the ZOMG, they absorb massive amounts of damage and are immune to all forms of slowing, stunning, and knockback.

Without a powerful defense, the BAD can easily rip through weak defenses and wreak extra havoc when it releases its children after being popped (two ZOMGs and three DDTs). The BAD must be countered with multiple tier 4 towers, if not fifth tier towers that can do lots of damage to the BAD and its children. It is vital to use towers and abilities that do extra MOAB damage as it is almost impossible to beat otherwise. If not prepared, its three DDTs would rush through defenses while the two ZOMGs would cause later trouble.

BAD starts to appear on Round 100 with 28,000 health and 67,200 RBE, and Fortified BAD starts to appear on Round 140 with 200,000 health and 429,920 RBE in Bloons TD 6.

Boss Bloons[]

These Bloons are MOAB-class Bloons exclusive to Boss Battle events. Their strength rises depending on the number of times the player has defeated them during a specific event during a specific period of time. Each Boss Bloon appears in a distinct track, each with variable amounts of land, water, unplaceable land, and variable path length.

Bloonarius the Inflator[]

Bloonarius

Bloonarius in BMC and BTD5.

BloonariusPortrait

Normal Bloonarius in BTD6.

Bloonarius the Inflator is a large boss Bloon that appears in the Bloonarius event in Bloons Monkey City, BTD5 or BTD6. It is a MOAB-Class Bloon and therefore is vulnerable to upgrades that specialize in defeating MOAB Class Bloons. Every time it reaches "skull health", it will spawn deadly Bloons. Bloonarius behaves differently in the BTD5 Generation compared to the BTD6 Generation.

It is the first Boss Bloon introduced in Bloons Monkey City. It only appears in certain events. It is the slowest Bloon in existence, with a relative speed of 0.1 compared to a Red Bloon. It has highest health out of all Boss Bloons starting with 2000 HP, outside of its significantly higher health, it has no special abilities (It summons a Bloon every time 25% of its health is lost depending on level). Lead Bloon is summoned on lowest levels up to ZOMG once on Level 19's final degrade. (All phases (Level 20+)).

In BMC, it has 2000 health, equivalent to half a ZOMG, at level one its health increases with every level you complete. When it reaches a degrade it will release a bloon, the bloon type varies upon which level you are at in the event. Bloonarius is very slow, even slower than a ZOMG Bloonarius is orange and lime green, with splashes of swamp water splattered upon its hull.

This boss has been available to fight on BTD5 Mobile since May 2016. The initial boss map is Monkey Lane.

In BTD6, Bloonarius has two variants: Normal and Elite. Damaging Bloonarius causes it to spawn Bloonarius Minions, and reaching "skull health" causes Bloonarius to spew out a deadly rush of Bloons. It has much more health and is much slower than other MOAB-class Bloons. Elite Bloonarius is a much more powerful version of normal Bloonarius with more health and even deadlier rushes. Bloonarius is the slowest Bloon in the entire Bloons TD franchise, at 5% the speed of a Red Bloon at lowest tiers.

Vortex: Deadly Master of Air[]

Vortex

Vortex in BMC and BTD5.

Vortex: Deadly Master of Air is another large boss bloon that appears in the Vortex event also in Bloons Monkey City or BTD5. Decaled with blue and black stripes, it is very similar to Bloonarius with almost the same stats. It moves slightly faster than Bloonarius, but slower than a BFB, and is slightly weaker. Every few seconds, it will make a shockwave that partially stuns towers, making them shoot slower temporarily.
It is the second boss Bloon introduced in Bloons Monkey City. It moves slightly faster than ZOMG and even faster than its siblings, at a relative speed of 0.2. In its boss fight he periodically creates a pulse that significantly slows towers down in close range for short duration. (It creates large shockwave that temporarily stuns all towers in its range. every time 25% of its health is lost.) Slowness effect is stronger the faster the tower shoots, the range of pulse increases with level.

VortexPortrait

Normal Vortex in BTD6

In BTD6, Vortex sends out a pulse that destroys projectiles every 7 seconds, Vortex also has two variants: Normal and Elite, Damaging Vortex causes it to send out a massive shockwave Stunning all nearby Towers then retreating and form a shield for 10 seconds which deflects projectiles, Vortex also buffs all Bloons, Including MOAB-Class Bloons.

Just like Bloonarius, Vortex can be fought on BTD5 Mobile, being available to fight since May 2016. The initial boss map is Skull Peak.

Dreadbloon: Armored Behemoth[]

Dreadbloon

Dreadbloon in BMC and BTD5.

DreadbloonPortrait

Normal Dreadbloon in BTD6

Dreadbloon: Armored Behemoth is the third boss Bloon introduced in Bloons Monkey City and BTD5 and in the level 75 of Bloons Super Monkey 2 Mobile. It appears in the Dreadbloon event. It has similar stats to Bloonarius and Vortex, except it has the ability to give itself yellow stone armor and naturally has lead properties. The armor allows the Dreadbloon to become protected under a ceramic layer. Dreadbloon's nose cone resembles a drill.

In BTD5 Generation games, Dreadbloon moves at a relative speed of 0.14. Unlike its siblings, it has low health but also the highest defense as it has Lead property and can create protective rock layer protecting it before it can be damaged. (It fully regenerates its entire rock layer every time 25% of its health is lost.) Shield regenerates slowly when not destroyed. Every time it regenerates its rock layer, he stops in place and is invulnerable to attacks. Its rock armor health also scales with level but significantly less (% ratio decreases with subsequent levels starting with level 4).

Dreadbloon can be fought on BTD5 Mobile since May 2016. The initial boss map is Lobby.

In BTD6, Dreadbloon is a bulky Boss Bloon with heavy resistances to various types of towers, with a notable attribute being its complete immunity to entire classes of tower (Primary, Military, Magic, and Support, in this order). Irrespective of its class immunities, Dreadbloon has two states: Shielded and Unshielded. It starts off shielded, shown by its rocky exterior, and has Ceramic Bloon properties with no damage resistances. Breaking this protective shield exposes Dreadbloon, which has Lead Bloon properties, and takes a flat damage reduction against all attacks. If a skull is reached, Dreadbloon reshields itself and triggers the next class immunity, and regularly summons waves of Rock Bloons until the protective shield is destroyed again; this repeats thrice till Dreadbloon finally is defeated.

Blastopopoulos: Demon of the Core[]

Blastopopoulos

Blastpopoulos in BTD5 and BMC.

Blastopopoulos: Demon of the Core is yet another large Boss Bloon in Bloons Monkey City and BTD5, but in the Blastopopoulos event. It is like the Vortex, but instead of sending shockwaves that disable towers, Blastopopoulos throws a fireball at the most expensive tower in-game, stunning it for a few seconds. It moves at about the same speed as a BFB.

Originally named as Blastopopoulis, it is the fourth (and final) Boss Bloon to be added in Bloons Monkey City. It moves at a relative speed of 0.14. It is tied with Bloonarius for the highest base HP out of all bosses. Its special ability is hurling fireball at most expensive tower stunning it completely, if player attempts to sell the affected tower Blastapopoulos enrages and sends barrage of molten rocks at other towers. (Every time 25% of its health is lost. His speed of hurling rocks increases, outside of it lacks amplified ability.) In Levels 1-4 he hurls 1 fireball, in Levels 5-9 2 fireballs and Level 10+ 3 fireballs.

Blastapopoulos can be fought on BTD5 Mobile since May 2016. The initial boss map is Park Path.

Gravelord Lych[]

LychPortrait

Normal Lych in BTD6.

Gravelord Lych is a Boss Bloon unique to BTD6. The boss drains buffs from your Monkeys, healing itself in the process. When each skull on its health bar is reached, Lych goes ethereal, resurrecting the empty shells of recently popped MOAB-class Bloons. When ethereal, Lych cannot be damaged until all resurrected Bloons have been popped, including the life-draining Lych-soul Bloon. Resurrected MOAB class Bloons do not spawn children. Selling towers will heal Lych by a percentage of its max HP equal to that tower's highest tier (e.g. a Tier 5 tower would heal it for 5%, regardless of crosspathing).

Reality Warper Phayze[]

PhayzePortrait

Normal Phayze in BTD6.

Phayze is a Boss Bloon unique to BTD6. This boss has extremely resistant Camo Bloon properties, and shields itself with a Reality Shield that allows it to move faster. Regularly, it summons Radar Jam, which blocks all external camo detection and makes itself immune to decamo and restores its own camo properties, and also drifts all bloons towards its location and applies extra Camo properties. If its skulls are triggered, it warps along the track, emitting a portal for all naturally occurring bloons to spawn from, in addition to perpetually slowing down all towers until Phayze is finally defeated.

Calamari Blimp[]

Main article: Calamari Blimp

Calamari Boss

Calamari Blimp while covered

Exclusive to Bloons Super Monkey 2, this MOAB-Class Bloon is a greyish blimp with three blue eyes (at the fifth health stage, its eyes turn white). It appears in Stage 3-5 as a boss. Originally, it was covered in Black Bloons, Red Bloons as its eyes, and Glass Bloons as some sort of tentacles. It only breaks after about 10000 hits, and occasionally releases a red trail and "bumpers", balls made of Black and Glass Bloons which will continuously chase the player until completely popped.

Heavy Metal Bloon[]

Bloons super monkey 2 final boss

Heavy Metal Bloon

Exclusive to Bloons Super Monkey 2, the HM Bloon is a dark grey blimp with 4 holes, and a bloon at the center covered in electricity (by some players called Lightning Shielded Bloon), which can't be popped, and releases a flame at the bottom. It appears in Stage 5 as the boss. It breaks after about 15000 hits. While damaging it, it spawns gears of Shielded Lead Bloons and balls of Shielded Black Bloons coming out from its holes. Despite being made of metal, it can still be damaged by sharp projectiles. While it is being damaged, it can spew out random bloons, particularly Shielded Bloons and Phasing Bloons.

Servant Bloons[]

These types of MOAB-class bloons are exclusive to being summoned by Bosses in Boss Events.

Bloonarius Minions[]

Main article: Bloonarius Minions

Bloonarius Minions are sludgy bloons that surge out of Bloonarius the Inflator whenever Bloonarius is damaged. It can be any regular bloon type or any standard MOAB-class bloon type, including ZOMGs and BADs. They will retain most properties from their normal counterparts, with exception for income-per-pop in BTD6.

Lych-Soul[]

Main article: Lych-Soul
LychSoul

Lych-Soul

Lych-Soul is a boss servant bloon unique to BTD6. This bloon drains the player's lives over time if it is alive and is spawned when Gravelord Lych reaches a skull. It is spawned at the same time as the MOAB-class bloons resurrected by Lych. While this bloon and the resurrected MOABs are alive, Lych can not be damaged. In a similar manner to boss bloons, the Lych-Soul cannot be insta-killed by certain towers. As it is technically a Boss Bloon, it is vulnerable to sources that specifically deal extra damage to Boss Bloons.

Resurrected Blimps[]

Main article: Resurrected Blimps
Resblimps1

Resurrected Blimps

Resurrected Blimps are resurrected MOAB-class bloons that are summoned by Gravelord Lych. Whenever Lych reaches "skull health", MOAB-class bloons below BAD are summoned back alive if they are popped within the last 20 seconds. These blimps will regain large health and speed boosts, but will not spawn offspring. All resurrected blimps are marked by green chains wrapped around them.

Rock Bloons[]

Main article: Rock Bloon
DreadRockBloonStandard

Rock Bloon (technically, it is a MOAB-class bloon)

Rock Bloons are minions spawned by Dreadbloon: Armored Behemoth in BTD6 while under the armored phase and a skull is activated (this excludes the first phase, when Dreadbloon enters the screen). Rock Bloons are immune to all sources of mobility reduction, just like BADs and Bosses. However, unlike its shape, Rock Bloons are MOAB-class bloons, technically a Boss Bloon. As both an ordinary bloon and a MOAB-class bloon, it can only be targeted by universal attackers such as the basic Dart Monkey. In addition, Rock Bloons are immune to the tower class that Dreadbloon is currently immune to. Rock Bloons are vulnerable to sources that specifically deal extra damage to Boss Bloons, as it technically is a Boss Bloon.

Trivia[]

  • Some sort of propulsion system is most likely used to enable these huge Bloons to move, as shown by the rotors near the back of a MOAB-class bloon. These rotors can be temporarily taken out to disable movement of these Bloons, as shown by the Sniper Monkey's Cripple MOAB, Mortar Tower's Pop and Awe ability and Ninja Monkey's Sabotage Supply Lines ability.
    • However, most MOAB Class bloons show visible damage to the propellers and propulsion systems, sometimes even being on fire, yet they retain their speed.
