Local Heroes is a rule in Martian Games. It is opposite to the Monkey Madness rule. The only characters available to be placed are Finn, Jake, Princess Bubblegum, Ice King, Warrior Bubblegum, Flame Princess, Marceline, Hunter Marceline, Tuxedo Jake, and Dungeon Finn. Allies are independent from this rule.

Summary

Simply speaking, the Local Heroes rule specifically wants the player to use Adventure Time characters, ideally all ten of them or as many as the player already has at hand, given the character restrictions. The chances of winning the Martian Throne largely depends on the number of Adventure Time characters (including premium characters) the player owns, the quality of the items they have, and the strategic decisions for each tower at the player's disposal.

• Despite monkey characters being unusable under this rule, there is no preventing players from having them in party. Contrary to popular belief, the monkey character still remains useful with the allies they bring. There are even some cases where bringing in a monkey character as the 10th character in the party can be more beneficial than bringing an Adventure Time character.
  • Ice King and Flame Princess can generally be safely swapped out, as their DPS in the lategame does not compare with what two Tech Terrors can bring. Likewise, Marceline is redundant if Hunter Marceline is in the party, as Hunter Marceline has Hunson Abadeer and Vampire King available as allies and Marceline provides little in the way of utility if both Jakes are brought.
  • For instance, the monkey-exclusive COBRA when upgraded provides valuable cooldown reduction if the player depends on abilities or activated powers to survive. Another monkey-exclusive ally Dr Monkey can neutralize spaced and early grouped bloons and can boost income generation in the early game. Finally, the Tech Terror is one of the strongest allies in the game and is monkey exclusive, so bringing Sai or Sam with both Tech Terror and Vampire King may be useful.
  • Simultaneously, the monkey character can also be used as a holder for Magic Coin Purse, because the monkey character can act as a free trinket slot for that item.
