Large Calibre

Large Calibre is the second upgrade of Path 1 for the Sniper Monkey in Bloons TD Battles 2. Bullets from this Sniper deal 7 damage to bloons per shot instead of 4, enough to pop an entire Zebra Bloon or Lead Bloon, and can turn an entire Rainbow Bloon into 8 Red Bloons. When crosspathed with Shrapnel Shot, shrapnel pieces deal 2 damage instead of 1.

Combined with other upgrades, especially with Full Auto Rifle, Large Calibre's base damage alone makes a huge punch against MOAB-class bloons, and both Full Auto Rifle and Elite Defender's MOAB-class damage bonus also increases from +3 to +4. Overall, it is similar to its Bloons TD 6 counterpart except much cheaper.

It costs $750.

Strategy[]

Summary[]

A large amount of damage to bloons. It can be used to get rid of much stronger early-game bloons, like Leads and Zebras, simply chip more layers, or to act as extra DPS for higher-tier Snipers.

Tips[]

  • It is best to not require this upgrade until about Round 5 and above, where the first Spaced Whites appear, and for that purpose the 2-0-2 crosspath is best.
  • 2-3-0 Bouncing Bullet also gains more shrapnel damage, making this in combination with extra bullet damage become helpful for chipping tougher bloon layers.
  • As it deals high base damage, it is generally best set on Strong. If using the Large Calibre for chipping plenty of layers, it shouldn't be entirely relied once MOABs are unlocked on Round 17.

Version History[]

Large Calibre got a price cut. Also, the increased shrapnel damage was imported from BTD6 to improve crosspathing balance.

Initial release (compared to BTD6 during Version 28.0)
  • BUFF Large Calibre costs less ($1500 → $1000)
3.3
  • BUFF Large Calibre cost decreased from $1000 to $800
Sniper is still not quite as strong as we would like. It lacks early game efficiency and its bottom path is a little too expensive for what it does, so a few price cuts have been made.

4.1
  • BUFF Large Calibre cost decreased from $800 to $600
  • BUFF 2-2-0 Large Calibre shrapnel damage increased from 2 to 3
Since it’s hard to get much use out of Sniper in the early game, we’re giving it some simple early game buffs and improvements to crosspathing.

4.2.1 OTA Update 2
  • NERF Cost increased from $600 to $750
    • Overall price increase is $300 due to Sniper base price increasing by $100 and Full Metal Jacket price increasing by $50.
  • NERF 2-2-0: shrapnel damage decreased from 3 to 2
We were a little too successful in trying to increase the popularity of the Sniper Monkey as it is now the single most used tower in the game, surpassing even the Banana Farm. Sniper’s popularity is due to its versatility as an income source that also excels with both group popping through its shrapnel shot and at single targets with its high damage.

Trivia[]

  • Compared to all other variants of Large Calibre, this is the cheapest. In Battles 1 Mobile, its Point Five Oh counterpart costs $1400, in BTD6 and BATTD (named "Point Five Oh") it is $1500, while in other BTD5 Generation games it is $2200.
