“ | With his stretchy powers and musical talents, Jake excels at helping his friends to victory over the bloon invaders. | ” |
~ BATTD description |
“ | Stretches into several bloon smashing weapons. | ” |
~ Short description |
Jake is a character in Bloons Adventure Time TD. He is the third character to be accessible, unlocked after clearing the tutorial Grassland level "Bloons!". For his main attack, he alternates between stabbing attack pattern (changing his hand into a shape of a sword and thrusts) and slapping attack pattern, the latter of which is later seen on Pat Fusty from BTD6. Both attacks do sharp type damage, unable to pop leads, slaps needing an upgrade to hit them. Always uses stab pattern attacks when bloons barely enter his range, can start off with other attacks if bloons were fast enough to get past this point. Slap attack cannot hit upon bloons barely entering his range, it needs them to enter into his 50% of radius of range for skill to actually trigger and when triggers, does attack with a fairly big Area of Effect, with its size seen as a footprint on ground he does. Jake learns additional melee moves with further upgrades. Like all other characters, only one instance of Jake can be placed on the map. He costs $400 to be placed.
Jake has an alternate version called Tuxedo Jake, which requires an in-app purchase of $9.99 USD or spending 75,000 Martian Crystals at the Martian Trader to obtain him.
Description[]
Jake is a yellow-orange bulldog of medium standing height with thin limbs and large, circular eyes. His body color is evenly distributed throughout his entire body, with the exception of his eyes which look like white disks inside black circles. Being a dog-shapeshifter hybrid, Jake can morph any part of his body into many shapes at various sizes. When he is equipped with an instrument in-game, musical notes fly outwards above him, and he pulls out the instrument he is playing once in a while during his idle animation.

- Cons
- Slow attack speed

Star Boost[]
Jake will receive the following permanent boosts as he levels up:
- 2 stars - Base attack cooldown decreased by 0.1*
- 4 stars - Base attack pierce increased by 1
- 6 stars - Base range increased by 3
- 8 stars - Base attack pierce increased by 1
- 9 stars - Base attack cooldown decreased by 0.1*
- 10 stars - Mace Hand and Axe Foot upgrades are pre-purchased for free
*Shows "attack speed increased by X" in the official patch notes and in the game - this is misleading. The attack speed stat is the inverse of attack cooldown.
Strategies[]
Jake is mainly a support character - for early game, his Bro Fist is particularly useful for passing tough levels when high rarity items aren't easily obtainable. His Tie 'Em Up! ability is also useful for stalling rounds to allow your other character's abilities to recharge. Later on, Be Calmed By My Saliva can be useful for reducing long ability cooldowns. It targets towers in the same way the Alchemist's Berserker Brew does, so place the tower that needs the cooldown reductions most the closest to Jake.
Tips[]
Jake is not a good choice for early game for beginners due to the low start money, his slow attack speed and his inability to attack Camo Bloons. However, he can be used for early game lead poppage. He can't really get over 200 damage per second on MOAB easily without MOAB blueprints, Tuxedo Jake and sacrificing space for items he really needs for less important speed items. He can boost your characters well though when he has a good instrument, especially Golden Viola. You may give him Gauntlet of the Hero as it will do way more damage (200 per second for 20 seconds, 4k damage) than he himself during short period of time it's active before getting into long cooldown phase.
All his skills, except basic stab attack, Butt Push, Harmful if Swallowed and Abilities cannot activate against bloons, unless bloons enter 50% of his range's radius, so if you put him in a position, where the track loops around him so he can barely reach it, you will miss out on most of his lead popping and bloon smashing benefits. You could put him behind small (Sam, Supermonkey or Max) to medium range (C4 Charlie, PB) characters standing directly next to the track, preferably with a lot of range up trinkets, but ideally it's best to just put him point blank to the track. Finn on the other hand, if he's effected by Regal Presence and has the Lute Suit equipped he is best kept as far away from the track as possible. If the track loops around him, the further he is from the looping track, while still covering it, the more efficiently he uses his range, because he attacks independently from distance.
His 7 star ability adds 20 damage, so he doesn't need additional damage itself. He needs speed, range, and cooldown reduction, though. Cosmic Gauntlets, Baby Tooth and 1 COBRA can't make his ability permanent, which makes it different from each other transformation ability that's not permanent, because his ability is on cooldown 40% of the time, but since it's extra damage, not pure speed increase and doesn't attack from great distance, you don't need it to be really permanent. Baby Blanket and Glasses of Nerdicon deals with his range issues. Candy Dive Suit/Magic Carpet helps him boost characters that are grouped near water he would need to be placed in, and Lute Suit can help the player know when characters are affected by his instrument boosts while placing them. His Golden Viola instrument helps earn more to characters in range, it works poorly with Banana Replicator, only adding one cash after all bloon cash was multiplied, but at least adds speed to everyone. Black Bow Tie and Baker's Shard is probably all the other stuff he needs. He needs just speed trinkets after that. He can reduce cooldown with one of his skills, it can help Max (Bullseye, Dartnado), Marceline (Shape Shifting, Necromancy), Sam (Meteor Storm; as it turns out he needs to lick Sam with her having Warpaint Mud to have cooldown close to nothing) who without him still struggles with making cooldown almost non-existent (even with Cosmic Gauntlets, COBRA, and Baby Tooth) and heavy MOAB hitters abilities that do massive damage on C4 Charlie (specifically MOAB Assassin), and, if there's water source for allies and Warrior PB for an extra crewmate, Captain Cassie (MOAB Takedown; recommended to get Commander Cassie maxed first, possibly for Sidewinder Strike).
Jake though is pretty bad when dealing with lead property (especially DDTs) by only having once in 2 attacks an attack that hits through lead, making Vorpal Hand half effective, which could be a slot for speed trinket instead. If Hunson Abadeer sucks the soul from a DDT to remove its lead property for everyone, including Jake, he is actually is not so bad. But if you intend to replace him, Warpaint Mud seems to help along with other better cooldown reduction trinkets and COBRA for all mentioned characters, except Marceline who would lose too much using it. Though it's hard to tell if premium characters would need Warpaint Mud with other better sources of cooldown reduction, since it's not easy getting them.

Trivia[]
- If the player waits on the character screen, Jake will either scratch his butt and close his eyes, play his instrument (if you have one equipped), or he'll simply look around (if you don't have one equipped).
- These idle animations can also be seen ingame from a different angle.
- Jake's Jake of All Trades upgrade is a pun on the phrase jack of all trades.
- Jake's Harmful If Swallowed upgrade acts a bit like a Bloonchipper, but the upgrade adds a single suck that sucks up to 5 bloons at once instead of continuously sucking in one bloon at a time. In addition, these sucks deal around 8 damage, enough to fully wipe out a Rainbow Bloon.
- Also like the Bloonchipper, this upgrade can only allow Jake to suck in bloons up to Ceramics. Interestingly, it can also suck in Leads.
- If Jake activates Jake Suit and has both Finn and Dungeon Finn in his range, both Finns will transform into Jake Suits.
- Jake's quotes frequently break the fourth wall, when upgraded he usually acknowledges that he's been upgraded, and states that the game is a tower defense when annoyed.
- In his quote, he also questions about if the Bloons are really the bad guys. It is likely because he stayed in the tree fort while ignoring the entirety of the first level, then saw the Bloons outside and decided to morph into a Bloon shape, thinking it was perhaps some kind of a party.
- Jake is supposed to help Finn during the first level, but says he is 'in the zone' and continues playing some sort of video game.
- Pat Fusty's attack from BTD6 is based on Jake's main attack.
