IMF Loan Ability: Gives you $20,000 but you have to pay it back over time.
~ BTDB2 description

IMF Loan is the 4th upgrade on Path 2 of the Banana Farm in Bloons TD Battles 2. It is similar to Monkey Bank except it holds more total money ($20,000 vs $10,000) and gains the IMF Loan Ability, which gives the player a burst of $20,000 that must then be repaid. The loan is repaid by reducing the player's income from all sources by 50% until the $20,000 is fully paid off. In this game, loan abilities cannot be activated if already in debt. Cooldown of 90 seconds, and initial cooldown of 20 seconds.

Just like the Monkey Bank, the IMF Loan has a bank account with automatic payments. The payments are exactly the same as the Monkey Bank, except the maximum capacity of the bank is increased to $20,000. It pays $400 dollars into its account at the start of every round. It also makes 3 additional payments of $50 each, summing $150. It then multiplies the amount in the bank by 1.20 at the start of the next round before adding the next payment of $400. The combination of the initial lump sum, the interest, and the additional payments in that order is equivalent to a minimum of $630 per round.

Adding the top crosspath increases the number of payments to 5 per round (1/3/0) for a total of $250 throughout the round and ultimately up to 7 per round (2/3/0) for a total of $350 throughout round. The 0/3/1 crosspath adds a glowing light when the bank is full, and the 0/3/2 crosspath will autocollect on the round that the bank is full.

It costs $8000, and is unlocked with the purchase of Banana Farm.

Strategy[]

Summary[]

Compared to Bloons TD 6, where IMF Loan is extremely situational, this upgrade is very useful for strategic moves in the mid-to-late game of BTD Battles 2. By purchasing the upgrade from the Monkey Bank for $8000, waiting for the cooldown, then using the ability to receive $20000, the player can quickly receive a net gain of $12,000, enough for some major rushes like fortified grouped DDTs or for strong tower upgrades.

The most common use of IMF Loan is provide a significant advantage to making an all-out rush. The prime moment to use IMF Loan's ability for rushes is between Round 19-22, as the loan's income gain will provide enough income to provide a beefy rush soon enough while still outpacing the opponent's income generation.

Another common use of IMF Loan's ability is to obtain a Monkey Wall Street or other high-income Farm much sooner. IMF Loan can also be used for funding enough money to buy an expensive last-ditch defense.

Tips[]

  • Compared to buying and selling other towers for quick cash, IMF loan has the drawback of leaving you with a heavy loan, but has the benefit of its bank account. If your loan-fueled rush fails, the bank account can continue to provide you a substantial income.
  • Rushing the opponent with Grouped Fortified BFBs alongside ZOMGs is a strong option with the money obtained from the loan.
  • Activating a loan ability while already under debt of another loan nets only $10,000 bonus cash, compared to $20,000 for the first loan.
  • The round at which the IMF Loan upgrade is bought from Monkey Bank depends on the progression of the first Monkey Bank. For further elaboration of this, refer to Monkey Bank (BTDB2)#Strategy.

Version History[]

Initial release (compared to BTD6 during Version 28.0)
  • BUFF Monkey Bank produces more total cash per round ($230 → $550)
    • NERF Monkey Bank packets per round decreased (6 -> 3) and total cash from packets decreased ($230 -> $150)
    • BUFF Monkey Bank has a large initial paymount each round ($0 → $400)
  • BUFF IMF Loan capacity increased ($10000 → $15000)
  • BUFF IMF Loan loan increased ($10000 → $20000)
  • BUFF IMF Loan initial cooldown reduced (100% → 33%)
  • NERF IMF Loan abilities of any Farm cannot be used if already in debt
1.0.6
  • BUFF Inherited the Monkey Bank income buff at the end if the round 15% → 20%
1.5.0
  • BUFF No longer requires 20,000 XP to unlock. Players who have unlocked this upgrade before the update will not receive a full refund.
1.7.0
  • BUFF IMF Loan bank capacity increase $15k → $20k
1.9.0
  • BUFF IMF Loan initial cooldown reduced (30s → 20s)
2.1.2
  • NERF x4x IMF Loan: $7500 → $8000
    • Overall price increase is $0 due to the Bank reducing cost by $500.
Monkey Bank has been in long need of an efficiency buff, since it has never been able to compete with the other Banana Farm upgrades. We did not want to indirectly buff IMF Loan, therefore the total cost of an x4x Banana Farm remains unchanged.

3.2.0
  • BUFF [bug fix] IMF Loan abilities can now be activated while under debt, even with the same IMF Loan.
3.2.1
  • NERF IMF Loan abilities can no longer be activated while under debt.
An unintended consequence of a previous bug fix allowed the IMF ability to be continually activated, essentially generating infinite money. This obviously isn't the intended use for this ability so we are removing this interaction.

Trivia[]

  • IMF Loan's $20k loan is equivalent to double of the BTD6 pre-35.0 IMF Loan's $10k loan without BackroomDealsIcon Backroom Deals.
  • In Version 3.2.0 and 3.2.1, IMF Farming was an extremely powerful income-generating method, because all loans could be activated like a normal cash-generating ability regardless of how much debt you would have. Simply invest in loans and use it to buy more IMF Loans. Subsequent loan abilities wouldn't make as much money as the first loan, but they did still provide huge bursts of cash.
    • The first IMF Loan's loan could provide enough cash to buy two IMF Loans, though the third bought IMF Loan needs a little extra cash and time while the second IMF Loan's loan would charge up.
