Heroes are powerful, unique towers with which automatically level up as the game progresses, gaining stronger attacks and activated abilities. Each player chooses a hero before battle, and different voice lines, animations and skins can be unlocked through player progress. Only one hero may be placed per player.
Unlike normal towers, only one hero can be placed on the track for each game and automatically gains XP needed to upgrade itself, making them more useful the earlier they are placed.
However, they can also be upgraded instantly for a sum of in-game cash. The more XP a hero already has, the lower the amount of cash required to upgrade the hero to the next level. Spending money to level your hero also increases sell price.
Each hero has multiple abilities. The abilities are unlocked at levels 3 and 10, with Ezili and Adora also having an ability that unlocks at level 7. The highest level a hero can reach is 20.
Heroes also earn Hero Points each game, which are used to unlock Hero Rewards and Hero Alts.
Hero Leveling[]
Heroes require a set amount of XP per level. For most purposes, the amount of money needed for an upgrade is the amount of XP required.
All heroes have a specific XP ratio. Heroes with a higher XP ratio require more XP to level up and therefore level up slower.
Bonnie's XP ratio is 1x Striker, equal to 1.58823529x
The true experience curve per level is not yet researched in Battles 2. For now, see BTD6 Heroes XP for the XP formula for BTD6, which should be a similar formula albeit about 3.0x faster (2.5x pre-1.1.0) in Battles 2 due to shorter rounds.
The Heroes[]
There are currently 10 heroes in BTDB2, and new returning ones are expected to come in later updates. The current heroes are as follows:
Unlike BTD6, Hero Alts work differently compared to their normal hero counterparts. Hero Alts are designed as sidegrades, offering different playstyles that differ in comparison to ordinary Heroes. All main Heroes in the game have at least one Hero Alt. Most Hero Alts are unlocked by buying it with 40,000 regular hero xp and 2,000 or 5,000.
There are currently 11 hero alts in BTDB2, and new returning ones are expected to come in later updates. The current hero alts are as follows:
When Quincy was injured by a nefarious DDT, many feared the worst. But Dr. Monkey knew that they had the technology, and that they could rebuild him. He is Quincy, evolved from Quincy.
Heros earn Hero Points each battle in which they are used. These points, together with monkey money, can be used to earn customizations for the hero on the Hero Rewards tab. Each hero has a total of nine customizations available on this tab.
Hero Alts[]
Every hero (up to Adora) has alternate skins which provide slightly different attacks and/or abilities. Currently, all alternate skins are unlockable with the original Hero's XP and some Monkey Money.
Does not include Hero XP information. Refer to Hero Rewards for Hero XP changes.

The in-game XP required for heroes to reach each level has been increased in early levels and decreased in later ones. This means that it will take longer for heroes to reach level 10 and unlock their ability, but the time it takes to reach level 20 will remain approximately the same.
“
This is to allow a bigger window for sending rushes like BFBs before the hero abilities become available to counter them.

1.6.1
The in-game XP required for Quincy, Cyber Quincy, Gwen, Science Gwen, Churchill and Sentai Churchill to reach each level has been reverted to the amounts used before 1.6.
“
The intent of the v1.6 hero XP change was to limit the power of the stronger heroes in the early/mid game, requiring you to spend more money if you wish to obtain powerful abilities such as Obyn’s Wall of Trees on the same rounds as before. However this change has also affected the lesser used heroes, which was not necessary, and so we have reverted the change for those heroes in hopes that this will encourage more usage of them.

[1.9.1] Hero XP was not displayable after a match done in this specific patch, Version 1.9.1. Fixed in Version 1.9.2.
During the first Battle School, Quincy could only ever be manually leveled up to Level 3, but he could still auto-level no matter how many rounds.
In 4.0.2, Heroes placements are also adjusted so that hero alts go after the main hero, not hero alts after the main lines of heroes.
The first hero that received two hero alts is Agent Jericho, as Star Captain Jericho was released after an update, while Highwayman Jericho was released alongside Agent Jericho.
Adora is the first hero originally from BTD6 that was released without any alts initially, and likewise the first BTD6 hero that received a Battles 2 alt not derived from any BTD6 skin.
