- This page is a general guide for Heli Pilot. For more advanced guides, see Heli Pilot (BTDB2)/Strategies/Optimization
Heli Pilot is a fully mobile flying tower in Bloons TD Battles 2. Heli Pilot's various upgrades make it excel as a supporting option to an existing three-tower loadout. It is very mobile and can provide unique benefits that improve the defense.
The aim of this article is a general guide for using the Heli Pilot. It summarizes how to effectively use Heli Pilot without going into too much intricate detail about meta strategy.
Base Tower[]
Base Heli Pilot fires from twin guns, shooting pairs of darts that pop up to 3 bloons each. It can fly anywhere and ignores Line of Sight. It can be changed to lock into a specific position or patrol between two points. Heli Pilot's main attack always target on First, making positioning important for the Heli Pilot.
Upgrades[]
Quad Darts[]
- Cost: $600
- Path: 1
- Tier: 1
- Unlock: Default
Quad Darts increases the number of darts shot from 2 to 4. This helps the Heli Pilot deal with early grouped bloons and spaced bloons more effectively.
Pursuit[]
- Cost: $250
- Path: 1
- Tier: 2
- Unlock: Default
Pursuit automatically sets the Heli Pilot to always follow the first bloons and go directly in front of them. This is mostly used strategically for automative purposes.
Razor Rotors[]
- Cost: $1,750
- Path: 1
- Tier: 3
- Unlock: 2,700 XP
Razor Rotors adds a razor rotor attack that shreds bloons within close range at a moderately fast rate, dealing 2 damage each, and can also pop Frozen and Lead. The rotor helps clean up weaker bloons nearby.
Apache Dartship[]
- Cost: $19,600
- Path: 1
- Tier: 4
- Unlock: 20,000 XP
Apache Dartship adds a rapid fire machine gun and an array of missiles. It is a very expensive upgrade but comes with a high amount of raw DPS, which works well against rushes that are not DDTs. Often too expensive for its value, but offers the highest DPS for a Heli Pilot outside of its Tier 5 upgrades.
Apache Prime[]
- Cost: $45,000
- Path: 1
- Tier: 5
- Unlock: 18,750 XP
Apache Prime replaces its main darts with lasers, upgrades its dart-shooting machine gun with a plasma-firing machine gun, and greatly improves missile damage. A very expensive option that helps assist against all bloon types it can detect, offering a large amount of raw DPS combined with high mobility, although quite inefficient for its cost.
Bigger Jets[]
- Cost: $300
- Path: 2
- Tier: 1
- Unlock: Default
Bigger Jets lets the Heli Pilot move faster. It also increases power of MOAB Shove's shove effect. Overall, it is a rather minor upgrade.
IFR[]
- Cost: $450
- Path: 2
- Tier: 2
- Unlock: Default
IFR allows the Heli Pilot to detect camos. Compared to most upgrades that provide camo detection, this one is quite expensive.
Downdraft[]
- Cost: $3,000
- Path: 2
- Tier: 3
- Unlock: TBA XP
Downdraft lets the Heli Pilot blow back bloons that are near it. It periodically blows them back at a steady rate and can be moved anywhere to blow back in a specific location. Its blowback is most effective against Ceramics, particularly those that come out of MOABs.
Support Chinook[]
- Cost: $7,500
- Path: 2
- Tier: 4
- Unlock: TBA XP
Supply Drop's crate ability simultaneously drops a money crate worth $4000 and a life crate worth 15 lives. These crates regenerate pretty slowly relative to the battle, so these are mostly for expanding long-term income and for gaining an advantage leading into Sudden Death. A major advantage of Support Chinook over other methods of income comes from being quite cost-effective at income generation per unit, and can be bought in conjunction with a fairly stable eco for a large income gain. However, it will still need support to deal with very dense grouped rushes or MOAB-class bloons. If Chinook's crate ability is activated as soon as it is available, the cash given is functionally equivalent to 400 eco. Chinook also gains a second ability that allows pickup of towers anywhere on screen, particularly helpful for moving heroes as well as towers with very low range.
Special Poperations[]
- Cost: $30,000
- Path: 2
- Tier: 5
- Unlock: 17,500 XP
Special Poperations increases crate ability's cash gain to $8000, and also adds a Marine ability. The Marine adds a big burst in damage, and there can be at least one Marine at all times if activated as soon as the Marine is ready. Marines can also be placed on any valid land spot, adding flexibility to placement. If Poperation's crate ability is activated as soon as it is available, the cash given is functionally equivalent to 800 eco.
Faster Darts[]
- Cost: $250
- Path: 3
- Tier: 1
- Unlock: Default
Faster Darts just increases main dart's projectile speed. It doesn't improve the projectile speed of other attacks. This is a minor upgrade whose only real purpose is to snipe bloons better before getting the next upgrade.
Faster Firing[]
- Cost: $350
- Path: 3
- Tier: 2
- Unlock: Default
Faster Firing increases the attack speed of the Heli by +25%. This is a small attack speed increase that helps let it deal damage quicker.
MOAB Shove[]
- Cost: $3,500
- Path: 3
- Tier: 3
- Unlock: 2,750 XP
MOAB Shove shoves back the closest MOAB-class bloon, pushing it backwards or reducing its speed. Adding Bigger Jets improves that shove effect to push further. Compared to other blimp-stalling upgrades, it is quite cheap and effective against single blimps, but can struggle against multiple blimps at once.
Comanche Defese[]
- Cost: $8,500
- Path: 3
- Tier: 4
- Unlock: 12,500 XP
Comanche Defense adds mini-Comanches when bloons get closer to the exit, based on track percentage every 25% of the bloon track's distance. The mini-Comanches will stay for a certain amount of time before they leave, or if the bloons reach another threshold of the track percentage. Mini-Comanches deal the biggest portion of the DPS here.
Comanche Commander[]
- Cost: $35,000
- Path: 3
- Tier: 5
- Unlock: TBA XP
Comanche Commander increases damage of its darts and its mini-Comanches become permanent. It is best paired with bloon debuffs such as Embrittlement and range-oriented buffs such as Village to maximize its damage output.

All towers including Heli Pilot start off with upgrades up to Tier 2. All upgrades are unlocked with Tower XP of the respective tower's type, and can be unlocked in any order provided that previous tiers on the same path are unlocked first. In order to suit the tower's varied specialties, some upgrades are better unlocked first before others. Below is a brief guide to unlocking Heli Pilot upgrades.
