“ | Gwendolin believes there hasn't yet been a Bloon problem that can't be solved with fire. Lots of fire. | ” |
~ Bloons TD 6 description |
Gwendolin is a Hero in Bloons TD 6. She specializes in fire-based weaponry and is unlocked at experience level 14. Her main attack is a short-to-medium-range fire blast from her moderately quick-attacking flamethrower, each shot piercing up to 2 Bloons. Due to her attacks being based on fire, she cannot pop Purple Bloons until level 16. She is also unable to pop Camo Bloons without support, except with her abilities.
She costs $615 on Easy, $725 on Medium Difficulty, $785 on Hard, and $870 on Impoppable. If Hero Favors is enabled, she will cost $555 on Easy, $655 on Medium, $710 on Hard, and $785 on Impoppable.
She was part of the initial release of the game (alongside Quincy, Striker Jones and Obyn Greenfoot).
In the 6.0 update, she was given a new skin, named Scientist Gwendolin, with new voice lines and appearance. She wears a blue and white lab tunic and her hair is blue instead of orange. She holds a purple potion instead of her normal fuel. The skin costs 2500 to unlock.
In the 17.0 update, she was given a third skin, named Harlegwen. The skin also costs 2500 to unlock.

Gwendolin's unique name tag, featuring yellow instead of blue.

Upgrades[]
Gwendolin will start upgrading herself every round upon placement. She earns more XP each round to unlock her next upgrade irrespective of how many bloons she pops. Her upgrades can also be immediately bought with cash, though the amount of cash required to purchase the next upgrade will typically increase as the upgrades get higher, making self-upgrading an important element for her overall power.
As she is one of the original 4 heroes, her relative levelling speed to the rest of the heroes is 1x.

Activated Abilities[]
![]() |
Standardization This format, which consists of adding the "Activated Abilities" Header 2 section containing a bunch of information about the activated abilities, should be standardized across all Hero articles in BTD6, and maybe also BTDB2 too |
- See also: Activated Abilities (BTD6)#Gwendolin
Gwendolin has two activated abilities: Cocktail of Fire (Level 3+), and Firestorm (Level 10+).
Cocktail of Fire Ability[]

Cocktail of Fire Ability
Her first ability, Cocktail of Fire, allows her to lob a molotov cocktail onto the track, spawning a long-lasting Wall of Fire with 40 pierce, lasting for 12 seconds on the track. Her cocktail targets based on a selected point, defaulting on Close.
When activated, she throws a Molotov cocktail in a set location, which generates a fiery blaze that burns any non-Purple Bloon that passes through the flames (including Camo Bloons), and will continue to burn for about half the cooldown of the ability. The blaze will melt up to 30 bloons every 0.1s for up to 12s. Level 7+ decreases the cooldown of each tick of damage from 0.2s to 0.1s, and pierce from 30 to 50. Level 14+ increases damage of cocktail from 1 to 2, and additionally inflicts a devastating burn to MOAB-class bloons, dealing 5 damage per second for up to 10s on the affected MOAB-class bloons. At Level 16+, her cocktail can damage Purple Bloons.
Cooldown of 30 seconds.
Firestorm Ability[]

Firestorm Ability
Firestorm instantaneously generates a burst of fire that affects all bloons on screen and applies Heat It Up to all towers on screen. The Heat It Up buffs applied are identical to her respective level.
When activated, the Firestorm covers the entire screen with fire, igniting all bloons except Purples (until Level 16+) for extended duration. Initial blast does 5 damage to everything, 20 to MOAB-class bloons, and inflicts 1 damage every 0.5s versus ordinary bloons and does 10 damage per second to MOAB-class bloons, lasting 8s on all affected bloons, as well as triggering Heat it Up for all monkeys on screen. At Level 16+, her Firestorm improves; it now inflicts 5 damage every 0.5s on standard bloons and 15 damage to MOAB-class per second at Level 16, and lasts for 10.4s. At Level 20+, Firestorm further increases initial blast damage to 5, and burn damage to 10 damage every 0.5s on standard bloons and 25 damage to MOAB-class per second.
Cooldown for the ability is 60 seconds.

Strategy[]
Summary[]
Gwendolin is a very effective hero for popping groups of bloons in addition to synergies with her Heat-It-Up buffs. Her Heat-It-Up buff remains a solid choice for towers who appreciate both pierce rather than just pure damage, or more uptime on buffs, in which case Pat Fusty's Rallying Roar may be a better option. Her abilities also offer a significant amount of piercing damage, destroying many formations of difficult grouped bloon rounds with ease. Additionally, her specific synergies with Dragon's Breath, Ring of Fire, and Signal Flare offer improved grouped damage and increased general reliability.
One of her main advantages comes from beating difficult Ceramic Bloon rounds on her own at Level 10+, especially to the likes of Rounds 63, 76, and 78. With effective ability timing, she can help beat various difficult grouped bloon rounds with ease.
Tips[]
- Her burn effect is a powerful ability she gains early on; putting her on 'Strong' targeting allows her to tear through early rounds, including popping leads, but be careful to defend from Purple Bloons.
- Cocktail of Fire is a very powerful ability, being able to destroy entire Rainbow Bloons, It can be targeted to be spawned anywhere within Gwen's range, defaulting to the closest place on the track to her position when she initially gains the ability and if she ever loses a range increase buff while the ability is targeted outside of her new range. You may benefit from positioning it as far up the track as you can as to catch any Bloons that may have otherwise leaked past your defenses.
- Once Gwendolin hits level 17, her Heat It Up ability gives +1 layers of damage to all nearby towers, useful to buff nearby towers. Do make sure she is attacking as she needs to attack or firestorm for Heat It Up to activate. Placing her near the front (but not directly at the front) should allow her to activate her Heat It Up effect as often as possible.
- Heavy ceramic rushes (especially on Round 63, 76 and 78) can be stopped very quickly with Cocktail of Fire and Firestorm.
- For Round 63, placing a Cocktail onto the first wave then activating Firestorm on the second wave and then activating another Cocktail on the third wave should eliminate Round 63 with relative ease, but requires good ability timing.
- For Round 76, she can activate her Firestorm can effectively cancel out the regrowth, burning the bloons faster than they can be regenerated.
- For Round 78, she can easily use two Firestorms for both waves, as her Firestorm ability only has a cooldown of 60 seconds.
- With Jungle Drums and Stronger Stimulant's buff, Heat It Up has near permanent uptime, provided Gwen can always attack and is at Level 18 or above.
- Gwendolin plays a strong role in Contested Territory, particularly Least Tiers and Time Attack, by providing valuable Heat-It-Up buffs in addition to excelling against groups of bloons except Purple. Royal Treatment nullifies most of her weaknesses, allowing her to achieve very low scores on regular tiles, and even solo all rounds on regular tiles with the help of additional relics (such as MOAB-popping and life regeneration).
- Aside from MOAB-class bloons, Gwen has some weaknesses on Round 51, as her cocktail alone isn't quite strong enough to break apart multiple spaced Camo Ceramics in one go. If she can achieve her Firestorm by this round, this specific round shouldn't be a problem.
- Gwen + Rocket Storm achieves a safe 6 Tier score on Least Tiers on most maps up to Round 62.
- Royal Treatment + Extra Empowered + Durable Shots is a powerful combination that allows Gwen buy-and-resell action to become super effective on non-regular Time Attack tiles. The instant Level 3 allows her to afford time to recharge cocktails again quickly, and Durable Shot improves general reliability of the cocktail by the increased duration.
Version History[]
Balance Changes[]
Gwendolin was the dominant hero in early versions of BTD6 due to her formerly almost always permanent Heat It Up effect. Her Heat It Up has been nerfed in Version 6.0, and has dropped in power ranking since then. She received additional overall buffs starting from Version 14.0 to keep her power on par with heroes who have received more buffs, as well as to make her more flexible of a hero. Version 29.0 nerfed her again to reduce dominance on Race Events in particular. Version 33.0 added synergy effects with fire-based towers.

“ | Gwendolin's Heat it Up! attack/buff has been sitting in a weird spot where it would benefit from attack speed but does not because of the cooldown which prevents it ever having full uptime. This rework makes her have a roughly similar uptime at all levels without being buffed, however she will now benefit properly with increased uptime depending on any rate modifiers applied to her. A fully juiced Gwendolin around level 15 or 18 should now be capable of achieving 100% buff uptime. | ” |

Heat It Up passive attack time requirement reduced (15s --> 4.5s). Note that both the time requirement and shot requirement still must both be met in order to activate the Heat It Up effect.
Heat It Up shots required to trigger has been scaled up to her match her innate attack rate at all levels, and the base cooldown has also been increased. Former shot numbers was 30 shots for all levels.
- Level 4's Heat It Up ability triggers after 60 shots
- Level 12's Heat It Up ability triggers after 70 shots
- Level 15's Heat It Up ability triggers after 90 shots
- Level 18's Heat It Up ability triggers after 110 shots

Natural Heat It Up should trigger roughly +50% more at all levels
- Level 4's Heat It Up ability triggers after 40 shots instead of 60. Therefore, cooldown is now 20 seconds instead of 30 seconds, +50% faster rate.
- Level 12's Heat It Up ability triggers after 48 shots instead of 70. Therefore, cooldown is now 19.2 seconds instead of 28 seconds, +45.83% faster rate.
- Level 15's Heat It Up ability triggers after 64 shots instead of 90. Therefore, cooldown is now 19.2 seconds instead of 27 seconds, +40.63% faster rate.
- Level 18's Heat It Up ability triggers after 70 shots instead of 110. Therefore, cooldown is now 10.5 seconds instead of 16.5 seconds, +57.14% faster rate.

“ | Looking back over her kit, we noticed that we’ve never improved the actual attack itself for Gwen’s Heat it Up. Trivia[]

<Destroy Content?> This section is a candidate for a partial or complete content removal. Please discuss further on this article's talk page. Reason: Move all that female discussion stuff into article Gender, where there is probably a better discussion on determining male/female throughout the series, and coincidentally BATTD mentions gender. Or just cut a giant portion of that gender stuff altogether.... |
- At launch, Gwendolin was the first fully confirmed female monkey in the Bloons TD series, and the second confirmed female monkey in the Bloons series, as the player character's love interest in the long forgotten iOS version of Hot Air Bloon is the first female monkey in the Bloon series as a whole. Prior to BTD6, excluding the Damsel Monkey from Hot Air Bloon iOS, most monkeys were gender neutral, although Dart Monkey, Heli Pilot, Ninja Monkey, Wizard Monkey (knows as Monkey Apprentice back then), Super Monkey, Engineer Monkey (known as Monkey Engineer), and Banana Farmer are male (or used male pronouns) in a quote of the tutorial in BTDB Mobile and the "Move on Up" quest opening quote in BMC Mobile, the Crash Site special mission description in BMC Mobile, the Double Shot description in BTD5, Monkey Wizard's description in BTD4 (and Wizard Lord special mission introduction for Wizard Lord in BTD5), the comment before Round 14 from Bloons TD 1 and the BSM2 game description, the "Engineering an Escape" quest opening quote (pertaining to the Engineer Rescue special mission), and the BMC Mobile description respectively.
- Some Special Agents and their pro versions in BTD5 and its variants also use he/him/his pronouns, specifically the Angry Squirrel, Meerkat Spy, Watermelon Spitter, and Mad Snowman.
- Dart Monkeys and Super Monkeys have once again been referred as male in the Super Monkey Fan Club and Legend of the Night descriptions in BTD6, respectively.
- The BSM2 Super Monkey mentioned above may have been a hero character rather than the tower that players place in multiple quantities.
- As of update 18.0, the patch notes monkey (or Patch), as well as Ezili, Adora, Admiral Brickell, and Sauda are also female.
- It has been confirmed that all monkeys except for heroes and the patch notes one are all genderless. [1]
- Female monkeys also exist in Bloons Adventure Time TD, and unlike the rest of the Bloons games, there are certain items that function with their gender.
- The engineer in Scoop's Tall Tale was referred with female pronouns.
- Gwendolin is the first hero whose name appears in yellow.
- This was changed in v14.0 when Adora was added.
- Admiral Brickell also currently has her name spelled in yellow.
- Coincidentally, the three of them are all female heroes.
- Gwendolin's in-game quotes confirm the correct pronunciation of the MOAB Class Bloons; MOAB is said as one word (pronounced as "moh-AB"), while the BFB, ZOMG, DDT, and BAD are pronounced by their initials.
- Despite this, Striker Jones and Etienne pronounce MOAB by its initials, so MOAB could be accepted both ways.
- Before the 5.0 update, Gwendolin was also the only Hero so far who calls out the BAD by name.
- This is no longer true due to the Cyber Quincy skin being introduced in 5.0.
- Gwendolin used to be the most expensive hero, costing $900 on Medium. With the 2.0 update, Captain Churchill became the most expensive hero, costing $2000 on Medium.
- Gwendolin is the second hero to receive a second skin.
- Gwendolin had made appearance in one of Ninja Kiwi's Facebook account posts regarding July 4th 2019. She is seen roasting grilled pineapples on the barbecue at night. She also holds a spatula and a glass of orange juice while a fireworks display is set. This could be a reference to the premium upgrade in BTD5. Link (Facebook Post).
- Gwendolin and Sauda are the only female heroes to not have 3 abilities
Balance changes[]
- Before version 6.0, Gwendolin can throw three Cocktails of Fire instead of one by having all Monkey Knowledge in the Heroes section and being near a 5/X/X Monkey Sub.
- Despite the Ninja Kiwi patch notes in Version 22.0, Gwen's balance changes were actually a mix of buffs and nerfs. In fact, the "Level 4 Heat it up! cooldown reduced from 15s to 4.5s" does not match community testing; it is discovered that it now takes more shots (60 instead of 30 pre-update) for base Gwen to get the natural Heat It Up effect, Gwen's required shots increases with her natural attack speed bonus levels, but Gwen can now refresh the Heat It Up effect like the pre-6.0 Gwen no-refresh nerf.
- The "fire and water" synergy in the Version 47.0 patch notes for Gwendolin is a reference to the DoT triggers from Alluring Melody and above.
