Gravelord Lych is fast, but possesses less health than Bloonarius, compensating for its lower health with elusiveness, blimp necromancy, and defense sabotage. In particular, a very dangerous part of Lych is its capability to sap tower buffs and stun them in the process, drain lives, and heal from selling towers. Unlike Bloonarius, sent bloons are always guaranteed to be recently popped MOAB-class bloons with higher health and speed, in addition to a miniature version of itself called Lych-Soul that has less HP but drains lives over time. While under Skull Health, Lych is completely invulnerable to any damage until all its offspring from that skull send are popped.

There are up to 40 rounds to start farming before Lych first enters in its first tier. All tiers from Tier 1 to 5 need to be beaten in a single game in order to fully win the Lych Boss Bloon Event. Each tier of Lych must be beaten within 20 rounds of its appearance, or else the game is over. Losing by other means is also an obstacle to counter, so be careful.

The following article is a series of strategies to counter Lych, mainly focusing on Elite Lych due to its notorious difficulty of killing.

General Strategy[]

The general strategy for beating Lych, especially Elite Lych, is to take extremely greedy farming strategies to build a solid foundation of income prior to facing various factors in anticipation to the Lych's arrival: the extreme HP, single-target waves of bloons sent, and the buff-sapping properties. Once Lych arrives, there are several ideal decisions that can be made, at least for earlier tiers. But at higher tiers, one must go all in at DPS with as minimal support as possible. All this needs to be made before Lych becomes too strong to handle. In addition, avoid selling (if possible) while Lych is alive, because Lych regenerates health whenever a tower is sold; if needed while in battle, do it while Lych is already at full health, as Lych cannot heal beyond its maximum health.

For earlier tiers, choose a single-target damage tower that does not rely on any buff that is directly applied and/or temporary (notably, Alch buffs including Permanent Brew, Overclock and Ultraboost abilities, Ultraboost permastacks). Influence buffs (e.g. Village except its abilities, Shinobi Tactics, Support Sun Temples) and most hero buffs are not sappable. Make sure to raw-damage Lych at a consistent rate, unlike when fighting Bloonarius, so that Lych triggers skull health sooner. Once Lych is defeated at each tier, sell unnecessary defenses and build income. Do not sell monkeys while Lych is active, as it will heal them.

At the highest tiers, make sure to prepare DPS and non-sappable supports while maintaining a stable income flow. In addition, prepare in advance for saving up Paragons and accumulating tower pops of their constituent towers, as a super-buffed Vengeful True Sun God isn't going to be the best option due to omitting its most favorable buffs.

The best choice of hero, assuming custom hero choice is available, is either one that specializes in income, excels in early-game for cheap, or specializes in the extreme late-game as a buffing source. The most optimal choice for most situations is Benjamin, who gives a large headstart to income production and buffs Monkey Banks, or Geraldo who not only offers good income through the Rare Quincy Action Figure and Fertilizer, but also provides utility through his shop items. Both of these heroes are great for building towards much stronger Farms such as BRFs + Monkey City into Banana Central. Hero buffs are immune to getting sapped, as officially stated by Ninja Kiwi, making hero buffs such as Adora with Sun Avatar spam viable. In ranked, the best option would be to anti-stall rounds, which when done right avoid the round penalty that accumulates 10 seconds after the last bloon has spawned.

As for tower choices, choose an effective early-game strategy that also allows greed of income to the max, a strategy for countering early tiers of Lych, and a strategy for transitioning into extreme DPS. Support is extremely helpful too in addition to massive farming. Take care to not go too heavy on support though!

Towers each have their special roles in Boss Bloon Events. The "optimal" tower choices in Lych battles are generally those who have a cheap early-game prowess, offer income generation, or assist in damaging the boss and its minions as efficiently as possible. In the case of handling Lych itself, the best tower options are generally those with gradual high MOAB-class damage, passive permanent tower buffs, bloon debuffs, life regeneration, and defense combinations that do not rely on appliable buffs or self-buffs.

Tower Strategy
Dart Monkey
  • Early-game farming is important with the utilization of the early-game power of Dart Monkeys.
  • Use of Super Monkey Fan Club or Plasma Monkey Fan Club as DPS is risky because Lych considers these transformations as a buff. They can still be utilized when Lych is not around to build up pops for a degree 40 Dart paragon.
Boomerang Monkey
  • Very few upgrades for the Boomerang Monkey are useful for Lych.
  • Lych considers Turbo Charge and Perma Charge abilities as "buffs," so it is recommended to only use them to farm pops for a paragon, without using their ability against the boss itself.
Bomb Shooter
  • MOAB Assassins are useful for earlier stages of Lych, even against Elite Lych. Their high single-target damage in combination with Sticky Bomb can quickly decrease Lych's health.
  • MOAB Eliminator is also useful against Lych for the same reasons as MOAB Assassin, but for Tiers 2 and 3.
    • Ranked runs of tier 1 Lych can make use of MOAB Eliminator combined with MOAB Assassins to instantly take down a skull and the Lych-Soul if getting a good Perma Spike setup is difficult.
  • Recursive Cluster can be a good option for cleaning up Ceramics on normal rounds for a cheap price.
  • Bomb Blitz activates its passive ability if Lych-Soul steals lives, but this passive should not be relied on to damage the Lych Soul.
Tack Shooter
  • Tack prefers being close to its targets, leaving them more vulnerable to Lych and with less of a window for actually causing big damage.
  • Overdrive and The Tack Zone deal high damage versus MOAB-class bloons due to each individual tack damaging their large hitboxes. Not only can it be used against Lych, but also Lych-Soul and reanimated blimps, which don't spawn children when popped.
  • Instead of Alch buffs, use blimp debuffs such as Embrittlement or Glue Strike, to boost bottom path tacks which are equally as effective.
Ice Monkey
  • Embrittlement and Super Brittle are very valuable for their debuff against bloons and blimps. Embrittlement is also quite cheap.
  • Icicle Impale can be useful for stopping DDTs from passing defenses. Lych can also resurrect back recently popped DDTs, which will move much faster and gain a significant health bonus.
  • Most other Ice Monkey upgrades matter little due to the lack of grouped bloons, presence of more MOAB-class than usual, and very limited blimp countermeasures. However, most Ice Monkey upgrades aren't detrimental either, except for Absolute Zero's global Ice Monkey buff which can be sapped by Lych.
Glue Gunner
  • Glue Strike and Glue Storm apply a debuff of +2 damage to bloons they hit, although the Corrosive Glue crosspath is needed for them to hit MOABs and Bosses, making them a top support option.
  • MOAB Glue can slow down the blimps reanimated by Lych, which can be useful. However, Super Glue can instantly stop DDTs, especially reanimated DDTs (which have more speed and health), in place when given camo detection of any kind.
  • Base Glue Gunners are useful in the early game to slow down bloons for Rubber to Gold and Bloon Trap.
Sniper Monkey
  • If not killed fast enough, Lych-Soul will take some of your lives. Elite Defender's life loss attack speed bonus will be triggered and is considered as a buff, so Lych can sap it if the boss is in range.
  • Cripple MOAB is a super useful tower as it's a blimp debuff, not a tower buff.
  • 2-0-4 Full Auto Rifle is a relatively cost and space-efficient tower to spam in long range spots. However, other tower options and combinations are generally more cost or space-efficient in their role in closer spots.
  • Elite Sniper's buff is not sappable by Lych, as it is considered a "perma-buff," so one can safely use Elite Sniper without potential for backfire.
Monkey Sub
  • The base Monkey Sub is a useful early-game tower.
  • First Strike is not recommended anytime before Normal Tier 4 or Elite Tier 2, as you cannot skip skulls.
  • Sub Commander's buff cannot be sapped by Lych; one can safely use it and not worry about it backfiring.
  • Armor Piercing Darts is a strong global range water tower option for spamming towers. Also a good option for clearing out MOABs and BFBs between Tier 1 & 2, and Tier 2 & 3.
  • Energizer decreases ability cooldowns and makes the hero gain XP faster.
Monkey Buccaneer
  • Merchantmen farming is another valuable farm method, but Favored Trades also adds extra sellback. Trade Empire buffs are unaffected by Lych's sapping, and Trade Empire can be used to make large amounts of money.
  • When utilizing Favored Trades sellback bonuses, make sure that the selling is done before Lych comes, or at least when Lych is already at full health, where selling towers makes no difference.
  • Aircraft Carrier is a strong mid-range filler water option because of it's high damage. Destroyer retains most of the damage for a fraction of the price.
  • Pirate Lord is helpful for taking away resurrected ZOMGs, which should help anti-stall out Lych's ethereal invulnerability.
  • Navarch of the Seas can easily accrue 40+ degrees on maps with enough water because income counts towards higher degrees.
Monkey Ace
  • Sky Shredder is a decent option for middle tiers but generally outclassed, especially since Alch buffs are Shredder's best pair. Debuffs are okay with Sky Shredder but are not very reliable overall.
  • Flying Fortress works really well with debuffs and the Support Temple buff. Flying Fortress can also accrue pops for the Goliath Doomship and clear out rounds 81-99 with no ranked penalty.
  • Spectre is cost and space inefficient, but the second best filler option for events that limit the total amount of towers. As a bonus, it also ignores obstacles.
  • Tsar Bomba can be used to stun all blimps on screen in a hurry, but is quite expensive and has a deployment cooldown.
Heli Pilot
  • Apache Dartship and Apache Prime is cost and space inefficient, but the best filler option for events that limit the total amount of towers. As a bonus, it also ignores obstacles.
  • Support Chinook is very useful, as it allows you to both move towers without selling them, and give lives as a buffer for the Lych's life drain mechanic.
  • As Lych's reanimated MOABs have more health but no children, MOAB Shove can be used in the earlier tiers to keep the MOABs away from the exit.
  • Comanche Commander is a worthwhile lategame filler option because of its many projectiles that synergize with debuffs, along with Apache Dartships if quantity of towers is limited.
Mortar Monkey
  • This tower is not very useful because its upgrades mostly specialize in either only blimps or only bloons, and the only blimp-heavy damage upgrades are very expensive. In addition, full utilization of mortars require micromanagement.
  • 2-4-0 Artillery Battery is okay at both bloons and blimps, but not reliable due to its long ability cooldown and worse-than-average single-target damage. Additionally, Artillery Battery will backfire against Lych because it can sap its buff. Pop and Awe lacks a self-buffing option, but is still greatly outclassed.
Dartling Gunner
  • M.A.D is even more important here than against Bloonarius, as M.A.D's extremely high single-target damage and full map range allows it to excel against Lych.
  • Dartling Gunners are advantageous because they can be placed further away than usual so as to reduce opportunities of being sapped before tier 5, allowing them to safely take advantage of Stronger Stimulant and Overclock before then.
  • Bloon Exclusion Zone synergizes really well with bloon debuffs and the Support Temple buff. Its lower tier variants, 0-2-4 Bloon Area Denial System is also a very space-efficient (but not as cost-efficient as Overdrive, Armor Piercing Darts, or Poplust) tower to spam due to their great synergy with Support Temples and debuffs. 2-0-4 is not worth using over Plasma Accelerator. Target Independent should not be used, as it prevents it from making use of its full projectile range.
  • Never activate Emergency Unlock, as this buff can be sapped by Lych. If needing to unlock Dartlings, do so manually.
  • Plasma Accelerator is quite space-efficient, and can be used to substitute Snipers if they are limited.
Wizard Monkey
  • Wizards are okay but generally outclassed, as Wizards tend to deal low single-target damage.
  • Prince of Darkness's Necromancer buff is not sappable by Lych, so one can freely use it without potential for backfire.
  • Archmage with 5-2-0 can contribute decent damage in the lategame.
  • Summon Phoenix spam is a decent long-range budget option for when the map has lots of obstacles, or for when Sniper Monkeys are banned/limited.
  • Wall of Fire is a cost-efficient early game defense.
Super Monkey
  • Temple's Support Sacrifice buffs are not considered sappable by Lych, so one can safely put Support Sacrifice Temples on the map without endangering themselves with an unexpected health leech.
  • Vengeful True Sun God depends a lot on external buffs to maximize its power, but with many of its most favorable buffs out of the equation, it is better to just pair it with passive influence buffs such as Jungle Drums, Carrier Flagship (if placed on water), and hero buffs such as Brickell (if placed on water) or Adora.
  • Legend of the Night can tank resurrected blimps, especially the notorious ultra-fast resurrected DDTs, but it cannot tank Lych-Soul, because Lych-Soul is technically a type of Boss Bloon.
  • Sun Avatar spam, particularly 3-2-0 for the extra range and pierce, in combination with debuff sources deals substantial DPS to Lych and its children. This is because they shoot numerous projectiles quickly. Adora's Blood Sacrifice ability can buff them to inflict even more DPS.
Ninja Monkey
  • Sticky Bomb is a cheap way to take off HP from Tier 1 Elite Lych solo, in combination with other buffless defenses such as MOAB Assassins.
  • Shinobi Tactics are not considered sappable by Lych, so don't worry about backfiring with those towers. In any case, pair Shinobi with Grandmaster Ninja, not Master Bomber, as Master Bomber tends to have a rather fixed damage value per target.
    • Upgrading the Shinobi army into 0-4-2 or 2-4-0 ninjas can come in handy if intending to upgrade to Ascended Shadow.
  • Grand Saboteur's ability cannot be sapped by Lych, but is typically not very useful against Lych itself..
  • Alch buffs can easily backfire without proper backup. Lych saps tower buffs, so avoid Alch buffs if possible, including Permanent Brew. If Alch buff is needed, place the Alchemist and its buff target(s) well away from where Lych will roam; Lych can't steal buffs from a very long distance.
    • These potions can still be useful for buffing long range towers such as the M.A.D, if it is placed far away from Lych. They can also ease earlier rounds or be used with a perma-spike strategy if sold before Lych spawns.
    • Note that Lych gains infinite buff sapping range on Tier 5, so putting towers far away will not work anymore; it's best to sell the Alch before then.
  • Total Transformation deals high damage, but transformation abilities like this are considered a buffing option according to Lych.
  • Avoid using Bloon Master Alchemist as it can make you lose out on income, and grouped blimps are generally not a big problem. But if almost limitless money is available, this can be an option to force stronger resurrected blimps like ZOMGs into nothing.
  • The only viable uses for the Alchemist are Lead to Gold and Rubber to Gold crosspathed with Larger Potions (but not Acidic Mixture Dip) as they can provide additional methods of bonus income.
  • Heart of Vengeance's life loss vengeance attack speed boost cannot be sapped by Lych
  • Avatar of Wrath deals high single-target damage, making it viable against Lych. Since Lych's offspring is rather minimal, AoW's naturally low pierce is generally fine in this scenario. It is also possible to leak at least three camo rainbow bloons in Round 56 by not decamoing them to cap out a Heart of Vengeance Druid's attack speed to later upgrade to AoW. If using Geraldo's Rejuv Potion, leak an extra rainbow or two, depending on whether one or two rejuvs will be used.
  • Poplust buffs cannot be sapped and is a cheap added source of damage.
  • Druid of Wrath are a very cheap additional source of damage in conjunction with the Avatar of Wrath when given additional damage boosters and placed near Poplusts, as Poplust buffs have no effect past 5 stacks.
  • Jungle's Bounty generates a lot of cash, but it's incredibly risky to try stall Lych as much as possible just to try make as much ability income as possible. While still reliable at income production if no mistakes are made, any wrong move with the defenses will cause Lych to regain a substantial amount of health.
Banana Farm
  • Clearly, the description in Boss Events expressly recommends players to build income. Nothing speaks more about making income than the Banana Farm.
  • Best to start with Farms in the early game, starting with 0-0-0 building into 1-0-0 then into 2-0-0, and later into any other income source.
  • Marketplaces may work better than Monkey Banks due to the HealthyBananasIcon Healthy Bananas MK providing valuable life regeneration to counteract Lych-Soul's life sapping. Monkey Banks still generate a lot of cash, so they are useful for Ranked Mode.
  • When Monkey Knowledge is enabled, the IMF Loan's income potential is the highest in Tier 1. See Income Farming for more details.
  • 4-2-0 BRF spam near a Monkey City provides good income for the mid game, and when followed up with a 5-2-0 Banana Central is a very potent income strategy. BRFs are also the best banana farm to make a Monkeyopolis with because it costs the most. Combine BRFs with Overclock Engineers for best results, only if Lych is not nearby.
  • Banana Central buffs Banana Research Facilities, but its buff cannot be leeched by Lych.
  • Central Market spam is effective in combination with Merchantmen spam. Don't worry about Central Market's buff; it cannot be leeched by Lych.
  • Monkey Wall Street is helpful for the XXXL Trap to antistall rounds, as it can collect the trap automatically.
Spike Factory
  • Spike Factory is not as poor against Lych when compared to Bloonarius, as Lych sends fewer bloons and are able to deal huge spikes in damage.
  • An early Spike Factory can be useful during the early-game if Benjamin is not an option, protecting against small amounts of leaking bloons.
  • Perma-Spike is ideal for Gravelord Lych due to the upgrade's moderate price for a Tier 5 and huge stockpile potential. It's also a very reliable way to get a good time in ranked mode, but requires 3 rounds of prep.
  • Top path is ok, but may not be the best option compared to other more effective options. However, Super Mines can be bought to dump in a substantial spike in DPS using excess money. If it is the only enabled spike factory path, Spiked Mines spam can also be used to spawncamp higher tier normal Lych for Ranked.
  • Spike Storm and Carpet of Spikes can deal good burst damage, but fall off in terms of sustained damage.
  • While MOAB SHREDR may do well at dealing high damage to Lych and its blimp offspring, spikes disappear at the end of each round, which can cause all spike stockpiles to disappear if the round ends too soon, resulting in an unwanted situation.
  • Smart Spikes' start of round speed boost is considered a sappable temporary buff.
Monkey Village
  • Monkey Villages provide valuable buffs to nearby towers which are permanent so can't get sapped by Lych.
    • This however doesn't apply to Call to Arms and Homeland Defense, as they are activated abilities, thus act as periodic buffs. Call to Arms will still work without being sapped with long range towers before tier 5 if placed far away enough.
    • Homeland Defense can still be used with Perma-Spike strategies, as it involves prep before Lych spawns. Avoid using it during the Lych fight itself, though.
    • Lych does not instantly sap buffs, instead sapping buffs is periodical. Thus, for very optimized ranked runs, Homeland Defense can be used for more damage on the final skull if Lych is not about to sap buffs.
  • Monkeyopolis is a space efficient income generator that is cost-inefficient. However, one exception to this is the 1 farm "miniopolis", which is cost efficient and provides Monkey City bonuses. For lategame, it should be bought under the influence of Overclock for extra range whenever space for more farms is low, and only when you can absorb as many farms as possible.
Engineer Monkey
  • Overclock and Ultraboost, like many buffs, can be sapped by Lych.
    • As Overclock is an ability, it is possible to have an Overclock Engineer but not use its ability, so that Lych won't sap its benefits. Refrain from using its ability until Lych is dead, as Overclock still has value outside of killing Lych.
    • Overclock and Ultraboost are still critical to maximize income on BRFs and Banana Central in-between Lych rounds.
    • Overclock provides a slightly longer benefit on towers up to tier 3. Thus, a strategy is buying a base tower (or 3-x-x tower), overclocking it, then purchasing the desired upgrades. Notably done with long-distance towers such as the Elite Defender and M.A.D, or Banana Farms into BRFs/Banana Central. Be sure to place high tier Farms like Banana Central far away from Lych, so that the Overclock/Ultraboost buffs can't be leeched.
  • Cleansing Foam's start of round attack speed bonus, just like Smart Spikes, can be sapped by Lych.
  • Double Gun in the early-game makes it easy to save up money, but the Bloon Trap upgrade serves little value against Lych, as Lych is the main problem, and its blimp spawns are rather minimal. Bloon Trap still has value in the early game for generating income.
  • XXXL Trap can be used to deal with resurrected MOAB-class, as it doesn't matter how much health they have, but do note the fast speed of resurrected MOAB-class. XXXL Trap also has another use: a combination of antistalling in Ranked mode and gaining tremendous extra income if combined with Rubber to Gold, Monkey Town, and Support Sun Temples that can contribute to a high degree Paragon. It needs to have its attack speed doubled to cap out its trap deployment rate if using the middle crosspath, so Overclock is extremely useful for this (assuming Lych is already defeated).
  • Sentry Champion is one of the most space-efficient damage towers in the game for boss events. This potential is reduced without access to all buffs, although it can still be a good choice.
Beast Handler
  • Giganotosaurus is a good late-game tower to use for Tiers 4 and 5, but should not be the first option the player pursues. It is best to place merged Tyrannosaurus Rex far away from the boss spawn and away from the True Sun God buff, to maximize the benefit of merging with minimal drawbacks of occupying space.
  • Maxed Golden Eagle or a Giant Condor can infinitely stall up to 3 MOABs if placing the bird target as far from the exit as possible, allowing these birds to act like MOAB Shove versus MOABs. Giant Condor can also affect BFBs too.

Heroes offer super valuable roles at supporting a defense with their own special utility through their self-leveling upgrades. For Lych, it is usually best to choose a hero that extrapolates the best leading into late-game. Such a hero choice is usually an income generator, an early-game breezer into an early income saver, or a late-game dominator.

An important note is that Lych cannot absorb hero buffs at all, so feel free to use any hero with a buffing option without risk of backfiring.

Hero Strategy
  • Excels in the early-game but becomes useless in the late-game.
  • Mid-ranged cost hero who doesn't scale very well as a grouped counter.
  • She also has a buffing option, and like all heroes with buffing options, Gwen's buffs cannot be sapped.
Striker Jones
  • Striker Jones is mainly for buffs to Bomb Shooters, primarily MOAB Maulers and MOAB Assassins.
  • His early-game performance is subpar, but his buffing options compensate this downside.
  • Like all heroes with a buffing option, his buffing options are not sappable by Lych.
  • The +25% pierce and +5% range buff at Level 8+ can be helpful for a variety of different towers against Gravelord Lych, including lumping more spikes into Spike Factories.
Obyn Greenfoot
  • Obyn's early-game is decent and comes with buffs focusing on Druids, and thus, although none of these until level 18 provide single-target DPS bonuses.
  • Like all heroes with a buffing option, his buffing options are not sappable by Lych.
Captain Churchill
  • He is expensive and can do a huge amount of DPS, but his extreme late-game DPS is outclassed by other hero options, mainly Ben for his income.
  • Undoubtably a solid choice as an early-game income source that can snowball income quickly later on in the game. Less potential in the lategame than Geraldo in exchange for simplicity.
  • Benjamin's life restoration is also helpful to counteract Lych-Soul's passive life sapping.
  • Benjamin makes Monkey Banks more effective due to his buff to them.
  • Benjamin's Biohack let towers deal extra damage at the cost of potentially causing downtime for them. Syphon Funding can make rounds go faster, but will also take away potential pops for a Paragon.
  • It is a net income loss to use Syphon Funding on MOABs, as the reduced RBE is a larger income loss than the income multiplier. Similarly, Bloon Trojan is a net income loss on MOABS and DDTs until r101, and always reduces cash gained from BFBs. Furthermore, both reduce potential pops for Paragons. Thus, some players opt to either sell Benjamin or hide him where his Trojan cannot target bloons.
  • Not very useful as Lych is the key issue, not BADs, so her extreme late-game potential is weakened in this scenario. Her early-game and mid-game is not very useful in Boss Events either.
  • Even though her totem buff is external and temporary, it is hero-integrated, and cannot be sapped by Lych.
  • MOAB Hex can be useful for erasing the high-health Resurrected Blimps but it is an ability and thus there are better blimp insta-kill options without cooldown.
Pat Fusty
  • Rallying Roar, like most hero buffs, cannot be sapped by Lych. However, Benjamin and Geraldo are typically better because of their income generation. Pat Fusty is still useful on weeks where both are banned, as his buff is useful for strengthening overdrives.
  • Adora is an ideal option for buffing Temples and (V)TSG in the late-game, or dealing great damage herself. She can also be used in conjunction with Sun Avatar spam for similar incredible power.
  • Adora's incredible buffing power cannot be sapped by Lych. Thus she is often used when Benjamin or Geraldo are banned, but VTSG is enabled.
Admiral Brickell
Admiral Brickell
  • Brickell is another option for buffing Temples and (V)TSG in the late-game on maps with lots of water; just make sure to put the temples on water.
  • Brickell's buffs cannot be sapped by Lych.
  • Space is not normally a problem, so his free camo (which removes need of Radar Scanner) and UCAV (counter against mid-game rushes, and saves money in mid-game) aren't nearly as superior as his CHIMPS expertise does. His early-game is rather lackluster and his late-game doesn't scale very well, especially in Boss Event scenarios.
  • Like all heroes, Etienne's global camo buff is not sappable.
  • Excels in the early-game but doesn't scale very well in the late-game. She is more helpful than Quincy in both regards, but still outclassed by Benjamin for income.
  • She does have a redeeming window in saving plenty of money earlygame, which could potentially snowball better than Benjamin, but still highly unlikely.
  • Generally not useful as they are really subpar against BADs and Boss Bloons, and the relatively low amount of grouped bloons makes Psionic Scream obsolete.
  • Psi is too expensive for what they provide in defense. They also interfere with Bloon Trap and Lead/Rubber to Gold Farming by popping bloons too early.
  • At Level 14+, Psi's attacks can cause Resurrected MOAB-class bloons to stay in place for extended periods, delaying the time for Lych to return to non-ethereal state.
  • Geraldo comes with lots of special items that can be bought for special benefit. His indirect offense (e.g. Shooty Turret) can be very strong in the early-game, mid-game, and late-game. The tower buffs and special items he provides can be really strong when optimized.
  • Investment in his Rare Quincy Action Figure can be helpful for amassing a huge income gain in the long-term, but provides no immediate payoff. Optimally, sell the action figure on Round 31, as its value generation decreases beyond that point. Try to get Geraldo and his action figure as early as possible without harming long-term farming, typically by buying Geraldo on round 3 or 4. After the price increase of 34.0, the Rare Quincy Action Figure is delayed a round longer, reducing early-game snowball potential compared with Benjamin.
  • Geraldo can make a lot of money indirectly through the Rejuv Potion, which resets all ability cooldowns excluding Paragons, including money-generating abilities such as Supply Drop. The Rejuv Potion can also be extremely helpful for ability chains, notably involving First Strike. In addition, Rejuv restores 50 lives.
  • Geraldo's only direct income-generating options are Rare Quincy Action Figure and Fertilizer, and can indirectly make money via his Rejuv Potion in combination with money-generating abilities. If Banana Farms are available, Fertilizer is his secondary income source, which is best placed on the highest-tier Farms, and actually results in his lategame income exceeding that of Benjamin.
  • Geraldo's strongest item in raw value is the Paragon Power Totem, which can increase degrees of Paragons by granting 2,000 Power per totem for only the cost of $26k on Medium. Paragon Power Totems should be used as supplements to already large-scale defenses consisted on a single tower type, which paired with excess cash should sum to a quite high Paragon degree.
  • Geraldo's buffs cannot by stolen by Lych. Don't worry about applying buffs on towers with any of his items; use them at will.
  • Corvus has a variety of different spells in his Spellbook that can be used to produce various effects on himself and his Spirit companion. Combining his spells wisely in combination with managing his Spirit and his own haunting attack will maximize his true power.
  • Rosalia offers a mix of generalistic damage and high "positional range", and separately attacks with either her high straightline damage lasergun or high grouped damage grenades. She can be placed anywhere within her workshop's range but cannot move anywhere else outside of her Flight Boost ability. Her abilities deal a boost of extra damage but at a long cooldown.
  • Rosalia's discounts to Aces and Helis is beneficial in Least Cash Bosses that center around these tower types, although most Least Cash strategies outclass strategies centered on either of these towers. Either way, a cheaper Support Chinook is beneficial if the more powerful heroes are banned, same with a cheaper MOAB Shove.
  • Level 20 Anti-Bloon discount is relatively useless, unless specifically wanting The Anti-Bloon for a Least Cash Boss challenge.

Paragons are major powerhouses for handling bosses. To ensure the highest-level Paragons, make sure to accumulate enough pops early on by using the same tower type as much as possible, mainly damage to the boss and its swarms. Avoid selling towers of the desired type(s) unless necessary for higher income growth.

In general, accumulation of pops in Lych battles is a lot more difficult compared to battles against other Boss Bloons, mainly due Lych's considerably lower health and fast speed, both factors contributing to its overall reduced damage opportunities for the desired towers. In addition, Lych's absorption of tower buffs makes it difficult to super-buff towers of any type in the save-up for Paragons.

Paragon Strategy
Apex Plasma Master
  • Apex Plasma Master deals decent damage against Lych. Because of its cheap price, it is a decent supporting Paragon to other defenses, especially due to how its ultra-juggernauts bounce all over the map. However, racking up pops prior to purchase is rather difficult, as Super Monkey Fan Club and Plasma Monkey Fan Club transformations can be absorbed by Lych.
  • It may help to place Apex Plasma Master near the front to hit the blimps closest to the beginning while persistently hurling ultra-juggernauts everywhere on screen. This is to anti-stall Lych's invulnerable phase by killing the resurrected blimps at the beginning quickly.
  • Master Double Cross lets players achieve a Degree 30 Apex Plasma Master with ease, and makes a Degree 40 possible with relatively few pops.
  • Apex Plasma Master's now has direct competition with the Glaive Dominus at almost the same price point. The Plasma Ultra Juggernaut balls excel where there are lots of obstacles for dealing damage multiple times, but struggles compared with Glaive Dominus on open maps.
Glaive Dominus
  • Glaive Dominus provides good damage against Lych when obstacles are not prevalent. To maximize its damage, make sure its orbiting glaives are near the track. With the price reduction in Update 34.0, Glaive Dominus is nearly the same price as Apex Plasma Master now.
  • When using a Glaive Dominus, make sure to have defenses near the front of the map so that the knockback of the paragon can't stall the Lych's resurrected bloons. This knockback is also useful for dealing with resurrected blimps.
  • Glaive Dominus has a similar problem to Apex Plasma Master in that accumulating pops by the Dominus' constituent Boomerang Monkeys are difficult to do, given that Turbo Charge and Perma Charge abilities can be sucked away by Lych.
  • One additional benefit of Glaive Dominus is that it buffs all primary towers' attack speed by 11.1% (*0.9 cd), including primary paragons, making it even better for strategies utilizing lots of primary towers.
Ascended Shadow
  • Ascended Shadow is a great way to deal raw, single-target damage to (elite) Lych. However, since Paragons cannot be buffed or moved, their range is limited and is recommended to place them where they are viable. This is especially so for Ascended Shadow, whose main DPS is dependent on attacking within its immediate range.
  • Because non-Paragon Ninjas depend their DPS mostly on Shinobi buffs, which Lych cannot absorb due to being passive range buffs, it is easier to gather pops for Ascended Shadow than many of the cheaper Paragons.
Navarch of the Seas
  • Navarch of the Seas does huge damage to Lych but has an expensive price tag. It is relentless at hooking in blimps including Resurrected Blimps fairly quickly. Also, because Lych-Soul is technically considered a Boss Bloon it cannot be hooked in with its ability.
  • The main downside with Navarch is that it takes a bunch of water to be a strong option for bosses. For instance, a map like Cracked is generally not too viable except if you use enhancements such Geraldo or a lot of Portable Lakes.
  • Navarch can also be used to boost farming in the lategame because it stacks with Trade Empire, and potentially affording an even stronger Navarch later on.
  • Navarch's Carrier Flagship buff affects the Goliath Doomship's attack speed, resulting in the Doomship attacking ~17.6% faster. This does not affect its carpet bomb ability, so Navarch should still only be used on maps with lots of water.
  • Merchantman farming contributes towards a stronger degree Navarch.
Master Builder
  • Master Builder is a very expensive Paragon in terms of upgrade cost and collective T5 costs. Like Navarch of the Seas, Master Builder is relatively easy to get high Paragon degrees thanks to the benefit of extra income.
  • In terms of its role, it is a pure DPS role that greatly benefits from building its own power in the long-term, which come primarily from its stacking self-ultraboost and placement of Mega Sentries.
  • Note that its own self-ultraboost does not count as a sappable buff, since it is a Paragon. Master Builder only activates this passive ability once per round.
  • Each Mega Sentry can be placed on any land spot, have a unique attacking style, and produce Mini Sentries. Collectively, they can produce a large chunk of popping power to both Lych and its spawns. Make use of the global placement of Mega Sentries in order to inflict a significant amount of damage to each stage of Lych.
  • Gravelord Lych does regenerate 1% health if selling the Mega Sentries. Note that replacing Mega Sentries via the Mega Sentry deployment ability or through sacrificing with a Sun Temple does not trigger health regeneration, but manually selling them does. However, reaching a skull takes priority over health regeneration, making selling of Mega Sentries a very fast strategy against Tier 3 and 4 of Normal Lych, as each sentry explosion should one-shot each skull. For Tier 5 Elite, it is instead recommended to detonate them by redeploying them, and sacrificing them to a Sun Temple on the final skull of Tier 5.
Goliath Doomship
  • Goliath Doomship is a very expensive Paragon in terms of upgrade cost and collective T5 costs. While the Goliath Doomship lacks income generation as an alternative to earn pops, the Flying Fortress can accrue lots of pops while also antistalling rounds effectively for Ranked Bosses.
  • In terms of its role, it is a pure DPS role that greatly benefits from high degrees for a stronger ability that can be used more frequently.
  • Its carpet bomb ability is the strongest aspect of this paragon. With a high enough degree and proper positioning, the full bomb barrage can not only one shot a full health skull of Elite T5 Lych, but the Lych Soul that subsequently spawns.
  • When its ability is on cooldown, a lot of damage for the Goliath Doomship comes from its forward gunner attack. Thus if possible, maintaining as much time facing Lych with the Goliath Doomship is very beneficial.
Magus Perfectus
  • Magus Perfectus is quite an expensive Paragon in terms of upgrade cost alone, although the required T5's aren't too expensive. However, unlike Goliath Doomship, accumulating high degrees is difficult and tedious, much like many of the cheaper Paragons.
  • In terms of its role, it is a pure DPS role that is heavily micro-dependent for the maximum DPS. Juggle between its two togglable modes and its two activated abilities to achieve a careful balance of its optimal DPS.
  • Without the Arcane Metamorphosis ability active, the Magus Perfectus is very weak at quick DPS, particularly with its very slow ability cooldown. Compared to other Paragons, Magus is best used for sustained DPS.
  • Against Elite T5 Lych with Magus as the main DPS, it may be helpful to save Magus's abilities for specifically destroying the life-sucking Lych-Souls at each stage.
Nautic Siege Core
  • Nautic Siege Core is one of the cheaper Military Monkey Paragons, in fact the cheapest at the moment. It mostly fulfills a support role, doing decent damage while also having the option to submerge for various buffs or to produce a massive strike on bloons.
  • In terms of its role, it depends a lot on the situation. Choose the option that best fits the scenario.
    • Ability-dependent Paragons such as the Goliath Doomship and Magus Perfectus may benefit greatly from a submerged Nautic. Also, a submerged Nautic has better group-popping power.
    • Its pure DPS when unsubmerged is relatively similar to a Glaive Dominus, but with the activity of a Sub Commander plus a Pre-Emptive Strike.
    • When preparing for the Final Strike Ability, it can be used to pull off some immense burst damage to the Boss. Bear in mind that Lych has a phase of etherealness where it cannot be damaged at all during the time, so only use it knowing that Lych's health is relatively high compared to the next skull.

Sometimes, Lych may be too difficult to beat that bailing out with Powers and Insta-Monkeys may be necessary. Use them wisely, and ideally prepare use of Powers before defenses begin to overwhelm. For efficiency, they should not be consumed on useless endevours, because Powers and Instas are single-use, Powers cost Monkey Money, and Instas are limited resources. Powers (including Instas) cannot be used on Ranked Mode, as they add an advantage over players who don't use them.

In general when playing on Lych events, the best Powers are the ones directly related to income, for extrapolating cash gain faster and therefore affording the necessary defenses sooner. Micromanagement supporters such as Banana Farmer and Tech Bot are also worth adding for convenience purposes. Tower boosts such as Monkey Boost and Time Stop are useful when needing to destroy the boss better with a beefy defense, but direct damage Powers such as Super Monkey Storm will generally be useless because of their little potential for dynamic empowerment.

An important note is that Lych will not steal buffs from Powers, so feel free to have no worry if using Powers.

Power Strategy
Super Monkey Storm
  • Generally useless for Lych events, but can be useful if needing to bail out against resurrected blimps on Tier 1. Multiple uses may be needed for blimps, as Super Monkey Storms don't deal very much damage to resurrected blimps due to damage scaling, although these blimps will have no children.
  • It is advised not spam this power onto Lych itself to save a run; if you do, go all in, but risk losing a lot of Monkey Money.
Monkey Boost
  • Like all Powers, Monkey Boost cannot be sapped by Lych.
  • Helpful when needing the non-Paragon defense to deal more damage. Particularly useful on Tier 5 if there isn't enough firepower from non-Paragon towers.
  • Note that Monkey Boost cannot affect Paragons, as they are immune to all buffs.
  • Unlike Cash Drop, Thrive strives for long-term income gain at a much lower purchase price. To make the most of Thrive's income generation, prepare use beforehand and have plenty of pre-existing income sources available around.
  • For the best results, use it if there are lots of income generators and/or on rounds with lots of naturally spawning bloons.
Time Stop
  • Like all Powers, Time Stop cannot be sapped by Lych.
  • An active Time Stop causes almost everything to slow down. Most bloons will be reduced by 10% but most towers will attack at 30% speed, and BADs and Bosses (including Lych and Lych-Soul) to move at 30% speed. In most cases, this is basically a second Monkey Boost.
  • Time Stop is also used as a saving grace for reducing stressful situations, giving more time to react accordingly for the defense. Plus, abilities still recharge at the same speed, giving more time to activate important abilities sooner.
  • Paragons are immune to being slowed down, essentially making them attack much faster, especially versus BADs and Bosses.
Cash Drop
  • The most powerful option for the first few rounds, so that early-game income generation can begin sooner.
  • If desperate to use Powers, use this one and do so on the very first round.
Banana Farmer
  • Collection of bananas and crates can be tiresome for the hand or finger, so a Farmer can be added to collect nearby bananas from Banana Farms without Monkey Bank or Marketplace upgrades, or to collect Monkeyopolis crates.
  • If there is enough money to afford Special Poperations and there is the Door Gunner MK active, one can use Door Gunner on a Banana Farmer to rake up money across many different points, saving space and potentially saving use of a second or third Banana Farmer.
  • Generally not necessary because Arctic Wind can fulfill a similar role, unless on a map such as Spice Islands where Banana Farm space is very limited but water is plentiful.
Road Spikes
  • Tanks a few bloons for very cheap, but it is extremely ineffective at damaging blimps and requires too much micro if wanting to rush with spamming it out.
Glue Trap
  • While Glue Trap cannot slow down BADs or Bosses, Glue Trap could be used to slow down resurrected blimps, but the Supersize Glue Trap MK must be unlocked for it to be useful. Note that Glue Trap will consume more pierce upon consuming a blimp.
  • Generally weak because Lych sends much higher-HP blimps. MOAB Mines can't one-shot any Resurrected MOAB but can one-shot ordinary MOABs, and does very little damage to any other MOAB-class bloon including Lych and its minions.
  • Also, while MOAB Mine can damage Bosses, it does very little damage to them, and Lych's Minions eat a lot of the pierce of MOAB Mines.
Portable Lake
Camo Trap
  • Not necessary unless camos are an issue, but Lych can send DDTs with camo properties in resurrected form.
Energizing Totem
  • Like all Powers, Energizing Totem buffs cannot be sapped by Lych.
  • Energizing Totem's attack speed boost proves to be helpful alongside Monkey Boost. Unlike Monkey Boost, Energizing Totem is round-based.
Tech Bot
  • Insta-Monkeys are one-use and highly limited. If needed, use an offensive tower that excels for a long time (e.g. Tier 3 Super Monkey) or a pure income generator.

Boss Strengths and Weaknesses[]

Lych Strategy
  • Lych greatly reduces the choices of defenses because it can sabotage a defense that relies on charge buffs. Look for the Gravelord Lych#Healing Triggers page to see a full list of what buffs Lych can sap and which ones Lych cannot sap.
  • Lych can regenerate health if towers are sold or if sapping a tower.
  • Lych is quite fast for a Boss Bloon. Lych's minions (Lych-Soul and Resurrected Blimps) are very quick too, so watch out.
  • Lych-Soul drains lives over time, and if not dealt with quick enough can even instantly cause a game over by draining every last life.
  • At ethereal stage, Lych will be unable to be damaged by any tower until all Lych's minions are destroyed. It is only activated after reaching skull health.
  • Lych takes some time to phase into and out of ethereal stage, hence will take much longer to kill. Lych can't skip skull health either, taking yet longer to kill quickly. This is especially noticeable in Ranked Boss Mode, where each phase takes a total of 7.5s at minimum to etherealize in and out (or 3.75s each).
  • Lych does not have infinite sapping range until Tier 5; one could just put certain charge buffs well away from Lych provided the affected tower attacks from a long distance.
  • Lych lacks much in the way of direct damage mitigation or heavy swarms of bloons unlike Bloonarius's or Dreadbloon: Armored Behemoth minions, Vortex's stun effects, or Dreadbloon's cycling category immunities and lead interior's damage reduction.
  • One can choose not to use the suspect else-buffing and self-buffing options at all against Lych; it is easier to beat Lych itself without using them.
  • Lych has low health compared to many Boss Bloons, and lacks any direct damage resistances via itself or its minions; a proper defense should be able to take it and its minions down fast.

Farming by Tier[]

Tier 1 Farming[]

Tier 1 farming is the most important by far, as how much money you make in the early game will determine if you have enough money to beat the Tier 5 Lych. Farming for Lych is tricky, as you must take into account the

It is recommended that you start farming as soon as possible. Two distinct farming-heavy hero strategies exist: Benjamin and Geraldo. Benjamin is generally easier, while Geraldo strategies are harder in general. For Benjamin strategies, start with Ben as soon as he is ready to purchase, and then get a 0-0-0 Farm to build into more Farms and their upgrades. For Geraldo, delay his purchase until both him and his Rare Quincy Action Figure can be bought in a single round; on long maps it can be safely done by Round 4 with free Dart Monkey. Sell the Action Figure at round 31, either for more farms by round 31 to kickstart more farming. It is possible to sell it at round 28 instead for two banks, but it is only recommended on maps with low farming space such as Spice Islands or Infernal. After round 31, its not advised to keep the action figure as the sell price increase slows down dramatically after round 31, and the money at round 31 could be used for more farms, which would snowball better into the late game.

It is recommended to start farming as soon as possible. Two farming strategies exist, one that makes more money with Benjamin only, and the other that generates lives and works with Geraldo for a better late-game farm and utility. The first one revolves around Monkey Banks, and the other centers around Marketplaces. Monkey Knowledge required: Bigger Banks, or Healthy Bananas and their previous points, alongside More Valuable Bananas for both.

For the Benjamin strategy, start with Benjamin as soon as possible. Buy two 2-0-0 farms. How early farms are bought depends on how much one must spend on defenses and any other special modifiers. Upgrade one farm to 2-2-0, and the other to 2-0-2. Start saving money, until 1,400 cash on Medium. This will change based on the difficulty setting of the Boss Event. Sell the 2-0-2 farm and upgrade the first farm to 2-3-0. Whenever selling 200 farms for more banks, always upgrade them to 202 for more sellback. Repeat the process, getting defense as needed. Preferably, get two more 2-0-0 farms before the Monkey Bank fills up. When the bank fills up (generally round 28-30) upgrade the other farms to 2-3-0. This should give a very healthy amount of money to defeat the Tier 1 Lych easily with minimal life loss from the Lych-Soul.

For the marketplace strategy, pick either Benjamin or Geraldo, preferably Benjamin for the boost to early game farming. If using Geraldo, get him and his Action Figure on the same round. See above for more information about Hero Choice. Buy 2-0-0 farms, and upgrade to 2-0-3 Marketplaces. If buying marketplaces from scratch (with Geraldo's Action Figure), then Valuable Bananas is the better crosspath with Monkey Knowledge. The reason to choose Marketplaces is that on top of having really good short-term investment, they also generate lives with HealthyBananasIcon Healthy Bananas (BTD6), synergize better with Geraldo, and have higher sellback to start working towards a stronger defense for tier 1 or more efficient farming.

If you have enough money by the early 30s, an early miniopolis (monkeyopolis with 1 farm sacrifice) may be worth going for, as not only does it have good income, it also boosts income from pops and other income generating sources. Build a 0-0-2 village, then build an 0-0-4 village next to it so it benefits from the discount. Build an unupgraded farm next to it, then upgrade to the Monkeyopolis and start building 0-2-3 marketplaces next to it until a few (2-3) rounds before the boss arrives.

Tier 2 Farming[]

Conserve some cash to grab some single-target DPS, rather than invest in more Farms. Otherwise, this may force mid-round selling, leading to Lych regenerating back some lost health. Even so, use standard anti-Lych strategies to fight off Lych as soon as possible so that safe farming can continue sooner; the sooner Lych dies, the sooner that it's safe to achieve stronger foundations in income generation. Sell unnecessary defense once Lych fully dies at Tier 1. Don't forget to anticipate for Tier 2 Lych, and do an aggressive farming strategy while there is enough time to recover income and lives.

When it comes to income, be sure to have some Marketplaces and Central Markets to make up for any lost lives, provided Healthy Bananas is active. In addition to this, build at least 4-2-0 BRFs, and pair it with Overclock to make it cost efficient. With Geraldo, apply Fertilizer to overclocked BRFs boosted by a Monkey City for the most income. If needing to anticipate Tier 2, sell some of the Marketplaces or Central Markets, given their higher sellback (because they come with the Banana Salvage upgrade). It may also help to have a single Favored Trades nearby for a small sellback boost. On maps with enough water, a Merchantman army with a Trade Empire can serve both as income and as a strong enough defense.

Jungle's Bounty is another useful income source if farm space or farm quantity is low or restricted. However, ability-based income farming such as the aforementioned Druid farming bases income primarily on time, so be sure to not make any mistakes while fighting Lych and have a good stalling strategy to maximize the ability uptime.

Tier 3 Farming[]

Obtaining a moderate-sized Monkeyopolis before Lych Tier 2 begins, formerly an example of a successful income strategy before Update 32.

Keep up the conservative farming playstyle while Lych is on screen, and use standard Tier 2 countermeasures to defeat Lych at this tier. Sell yet again once Tier 2 is dead.

Once Tier 2 is dead, quickly sell unnecessary defenses and invest in more BRFs and then a Banana Central, if possible, but if not, don't worry about it until the next tier of Lych is defeated. If there is no space, opt for a large Monkeyopolis, preferably with Overclock to extend its range.

Tier 4 Farming[]

Lych before t4 mega farming

An example of mass-farming with Monkeyopolis, Banana Central, and many 4-2-0 BRFs

After Tier 3 Lych is defeated, continue spamming BRFs. Get a Monkey Wall Street to collect banana crates and generate extra lives. In the rest of the map continue to spam more BRFs. Typically Monkey Wall Street will generate enough lives with ten lives each round. If necessary, build a large Monkeyopolis if the map is filled with BRFs and more space is needed for farms, if you had not done that for Tier 3 farming. Buy high DPS towers with a paragon upgrade available to accumulate pops for a higher paragon degree.

Tier 5 Farming[]

Keep farming hard with as many income-based sources as possible while also at the same time investing for pops for the Paragons. Also use the last 20 rounds before Tier 5 Lych to accumulate those last pops, particularly key for maximizing the degrees for the Paragons. Still make sure to farm super hard at the same time too.

Countermeasures by Tier[]

Tier 1 (Boss Countermeasures)[]

Pspike beat t1 lych

Permaspike beating Tier 1 elite in under 50 seconds

  • Sticky Bomb + MOAB Assassin tends to fare well against Elite Tier 1, the former even provides great assistance when dealing with the regular rounds.
  • MOAB Maulers are great for dealing with Revived MOABs
  • MOAB Shove is fantastic for stalling the Revived MOABs to allow defences to deal with them.
  • Perma-Spike and The Tack Zone are good for dealing with Ranked Lych very quickly, but are very expensive and could limit farming. Perma Spike in particular requires 3 rounds of prep, making it a poor choice on higher difficulty weeks or on maps where optimal farming is harder.
  • Overdrive spam with Super Brittle will still get a good Ranked Lych time without requiring to prep three rounds early, unlike with Perma Spike strategies. Overdrive does more damage than Tack Zone against debuffed enemies.
  • Overdrive + Embrittlement is a simple combo that works well on maps that maximize curves and corners. The many rapid tacks combined with the +1 debuff against Lych and any Resurrected Blimps should deal with them reasonably quickly.

Tier 2 (Boss Countermeasures)[]

Aow beat t2

Avatar of Wrath successfully beating Tier 2

  • 0-1-5 Avatar of Wrath complimented with the Tier 1 defense can quickly shred through the health of Lych. Pair with Poplusts for the best results.
  • Super Brittle and Cripple MOAB synergizes really well with fast-firing and/or multi-projectile towers due to the nature of their debuffs, for instance in the case of Grandmaster Ninja or Overdrive spam. Glue Strike and Glue Storm also similarly benefits fast firing, multi-projectile towers, provided you get them up a round early or rely on Geraldo's Rejuv Potion.
  • If you can farm fast enough, you may even be able to afford an M.A.D. However, it is not needed for this tier, unless it is Elite.
    • Overclock on a 0-0-0 tower lasts longer than overclocking a tier 5 tower. Thus, if planning on overclocking a M.A.D, do it on a 0-0-0 dartling far away from lych before upgrading the dartling to a M.A.D to get a longer duration overclock and far away to avoid Lych stunning the M.A.D. Mostly necessary on harder weeks.
  • The Tack Zone does great damage, and can also deal with most of the regular rounds until round 80.
  • Master Bomber can decently chip away health from Lych as well.
  • Perma-Spike and Deadly Spikes with pre-round prep and Homeland Defense during that pre-round prep for the fastest ranked times. Make sure to not cast Homeland's active close to Lych's spawn round. Spike Storm spam can also work for this same purpose if enough spike factories are permitted.

Tier 3 (Boss Countermeasures)[]

  • Super Brittle, Cripple MOAB and Glue Strike and / or Glue Storm applies a debuff to Lych that benefits all towers.
  • The M.A.D. tends to play a crucial rule when dealing with this tier, and so does the Sun Temple. The Support Temple buff does not get drained, so no need to worry about it.
  • MOAB Eliminator supported by Energizer + Primary Expertise can provide assistance as well due to it being a high-damage, low-cooldown ability specialized for single-target havoc.
  • Sun Temple with 50k worth of Primary, Magic, and Support sacrifices can be a good saveup for True Sun God or its vengeful variant while also boosting other aforementioned options for Tier 2&3. If farming permits, jumping straight into a True Sun God is even better.
  • A Shinobi army with Grandmaster Ninja, Master Bomber, Super Brittle and Cripple MOAB are not the top pick but are still viable and provide great opportunity for gaining pops in order to get a high-degree Ascended Shadow. Grand Saboteur can also gain many pops on Rounds 94, 96 and 98 if the ability is well-timed. Do note however that Master Bomber and Cripple MOAB could stall the rounds between phases and cause the time to be extended in Ranked.
  • Any paragon deals high damage against tier 3, even on elite, although on very hard events (notably with Monkey Knowledge disabled), a degree 1 Dart Paragon may not be strong enough.
  • Perma-Spike and Deadly Spikes with Permanent Brew, support only True Sun God (to save money vs full sacrifices), and Homeland Defense is an excellent strategy for ranked times at the expense of requiring earlier pre-round prep. As with tier 2, make sure minimal or no buffs near the boss are active during the actual fight itself, so sell Permanent Brew before Lych Spawns, not have Homeland active during phases, and also includes the start of round bonus of bottom path spike factories. Spike Storm spam can also work for this same purpose if enough spike factories are permitted, or combined with the above strategy if you sell the Perma and Deadly spikes just before round 80 (lych buff steal range is limited, so bottom path spike storm is fine if far away enough).

Tier 4 (Boss Countermeasures)[]

  • Like previous tiers, Super Brittle, Cripple MOAB and Glue Strike and / or Glue Storm are highly recommended, as they apply a debuff to Lych that benefits all towers.
  • An Apex Plasma Master is a fantastic option for dealing with the boss rapidly, and also has limited range on all its attacks, meaning it can be placed away from the entrance and allowing other monkeys to get lots of pops.
  • Spike Storm spam can nearly spawncamp Lych for the first few skulls for a fast ranked time. With proper farming, following tier 5 strategies is also recommended for complimenting spike storm spam for any downtime spike storm may have.

Tier 5 (Boss Countermeasures)[]

T5 elite lych alreadydead

An example of a successful defense against Elite Tier 5 Lych

By this point, Paragons are by far the strongest option for handling Gravelord Lych. Additional advice:

Important support buffs (presumed all strong towers use this):

Best single-target options plus best optimizations (ranked starting from best):

Beyond that, there are strong options that can be spammed:

  • 1-4-0 Spike Storms for a strong long range spammable option, benefits from Geraldo. Heavily burst reliant and falls off after the initial ability.
  • 3-2-0 or 3-0-2 Sun Avatars can be done if there's no other valid expensive option available. Their cost and space efficiency is very high when provided with lots of damage increases.

If Spike Storms and Super Monkeys are limited or banned in a Lych event, Then the strongest spammable towers based on factors such as range and availability are as follows:

    • 2-0-4 Overdrive (close range, high damage)
    • 0-1-4 Poplust (mid range budget alternative to BADS, comparable damage for cheaper at the cost of less range)
    • 0-2-4 Bloon Area Denial System (expensive, VTSG buff lets them shoot half the map away, cannot attack at maximum range with Target Independent)
    • 4-2-0 Plasma Accelerator (long range micro reliant option, comparable with Full Auto Rifle if Snipers are limited or banned)
    • 2-0-4 Full Auto Rifle (long range option that also fills smaller gaps in a defense, avoid Elite Defender as his life loss passive will heal Lych, can take advantage of FlankingManeuversIcon Flanking Maneuvers)
    • 2-4-0 Artillery Battery (long range micro reliant option with high burst from its ability, and can ignore the wind shield, not worth micro until Follow Mouse is added)
    • Any Summon Phoenix (budget option, benefits from energizer, ignores obstacles)
    • 4-2-0 Aircraft Carrier (mid-range water option with higher damage than other spammable towers other than overdrives, can take advantage of FlankingManeuversIcon Flanking Maneuvers)
    • 2-0-4 Armor Piercing Darts (fills water, deals comparable damage to 0-2-4 BADS but with global range, can take advantage of FlankingManeuversIcon Flanking Maneuvers)
    • 2-0-4 Spectre (For events where total tower count is limited and ignoring obstacles is greatly appreciated, very expensive)
    • 2-0-4 Apache Dartship (More space inefficient tower in exchange for higher damage than Spectre for restricted tower count events)
