Summon a Genie Monkey from this brilliant gold bottle but beware, it won't last forever! (no wishes included with purchase). Extra attack now included.
~ Description of "Genie Bottle" at Level 18+

The Genie Bottle is an item purchasable in Geraldo's Shop starting at Level 12. Once placed on the map, the Bottle deploys a flying Genie which travels in a figure-8 pattern centered on the map. This genie rapidly fires Plasma projectiles with 20 Damage and 5 pierce every 0.2 seconds. It has 100 range centered on the genie, as well as a dummy range of 22 belonging to the bottle. When purchased at Level 18+, the Genie Bottle gains a second attack, equal in damage to the first.

The first plasma stream will follow Geraldo's set targeting priority, while the second attack is locked to close relative to the Genie. Genie shots are plasma type with automatic Camo Detection, being able to pop all except Purple Bloons. Genie Bottles are also considered Support Monkeys based on their orange upgrade portrait background and placement eligibility on the Support platform of Encrypted, however they will still be available in Primary/Military/Magic Monkeys Only gamemodes. Geraldo's Shop can hold up to 2 Genie Bottles at once, that each last 2 rounds. Genies restock every 5 rounds.

It costs $1,700 on Easy, $2,000 on Medium, $2,160 on Hard, and $2,400 on Impoppable.

Strategy[]

Summary[]

Genie Bottle packs a large amount global damage for a limited time at a rather low cost. It is a strong cleanup tower that can be used to deal lots of general damage, and has a respectable amount of range. However, Genie Bottle restocks slowly and lasts for very limited rounds, and should not be relied as the main source of damage.

Tips[]

  • The Genie is able to one-shot Ceramics before they turn into Super Ceramics at Round 81, allowing it to decimate ceramic rush rounds such as Rounds 63, 76, and 78.
  • As the Genie possesses a set flight path with a locked center, the actual bottle's position matters little. Leave it in range of buffs but otherwise out of the way.
  • The Genie receives most buffs from Geraldo, though targeted buffs such as Berserker Brew and Overclock do not transfer, and indeed the Genie cannot receive them in any case.
  • The Genie's bolts are fast, but not exceedingly so, and it has rather low pierce. As such it is potentially susceptible to being overrun by Bloons, though its generally high damage usually compensates.
  • It is generally best used to clean up rushes that spans throughout multiple rounds, such as rounds 63-64, 75-76 or 77-78, and 99-100.
    • Any genies placed on the last two rounds of the game mode will not expire until the end of the final round, making it viable to save genies until then to thin out the final rounds of the game.
  • It is possible to have four upgraded genies active at once by buying Geraldo's Level 20 to restock the shop (assuming Geraldo was deliberately placed late or playing Co-op mode, as he naturally reaches Level 20 quite early), which will trivialize rounds 99 to 100.
    • Alternatively, these 4 genies can be spread out over rounds 90 - 91, 92 - 93, 95 - 96 and 99 - 100 to provide constant firepower.

  • [31.0] Genie Bottle could be sold before it expires, returning normal cash as if it was sold normally. Patched in 31.1; now gives no cash.

Version History[]

Balance Changes[]

Genie Bottle overall received nerfs. The Version 31.1 buff to upgraded Genie damage has helped increase reliability against MOAB-class bloons especially DDTs, which is countered by the Version 32.0 that reduces the duration of the genie.

31.1
  • NERF [bug fix] Genie Bottle can no longer be sold for a percentage of cash
  • BUFF [bug fix] Level 18+ Genie Bottle MOAB bonus now applies to both attacks (instead of only 1)
  • NERF [bug fix] Genie Bottle now correctly use Impoppable prices on Impoppable.
32.0
Many of Geraldo's items are too strong for the required maintenance, Geraldo SHOULD be a top level hero, he is literally designed to be so as the most rewarding for your player knowledge and reaction to moment to moment gameplay, but too many items reward spammable gameplay over these knowledge & reactions so we are targeting a lot of durations/stock amounts with minimal price increases where it feels necessary. These are clearly a lot of small steps, as we did not want to do too many big changes from multiple angles all at once.
~ Ninja Kiwi
  • NERF Genie duration reduced from 3 to 2 rounds
38.0
  • BUFF Genie Bottle no longer takes one more round to refresh stock if bought from full stock
44.0
Geraldo has pushed the heroes up into a whole new level of power, and tales are being sung of his ability to dodge nerfs blindfolded, but we are cracking down on some of his interactions with a little bit of QoL consistency being added back in the case of creepy idol.

  • NERF Upgraded Genie Bottle no longer gains +5 MOAB-class damage

Bug Fixes and Balance Changes[]

31.1
  • NERF Genie Bottle can no longer be sold for a percentage of cash
  • Change [undocumented] Corrected misleading "blue" bottle at Level 18+ bottle description (changed "blue" to "gold")
  • NERF All Geraldo items now correctly use Impoppable prices on Impoppable.
44.0
  • Change Upgraded Genie Bottle description now removed "and more damage to MOABs" to accommodate the recent nerf

Trivia[]

  • In BTD5, Phoenixes can't attack if they are too far from its target. The same case occurs for genies.
  • The description of the Genie Bottle at Level 18+ was misleading, which previously forgot to change the name "blue", as the bottles become golden instead of blue. This was fixed in Version 31.1.
  • Prior to the Version 32.0 duration nerf, the Genie Bottle's round lifespan references the number of wishes a typical genie grants after being summoned, usually three. Since Version 32.0 reduced genie lifespan from 3 to 2, this reference is no longer relevant here. Of course, the joke that it does not grant any wishes at all despite being a genie still remains.
  • It was possible to sell a Genie Bottle before the Genie expires on its final round, which would return a normal selling price (70% by default, 75% with BetterSellDealsIcon Better Sell Deals, +10% with Favored Trades). It was later confirmed as a bug. A similar phenomenon occurred for Creepy Idol.
  • It was thought that the Genie at level 18+ actually fires a double-damage version of the level 1 attack. But it actually gains a second stream that is hard to see as it is sometimes covered by the first attack.
  • It is technically a Support Tower as evidenced by the orange upgrade portrait background, and ability to be placed on the support platform of Encrypted. They can still be placed in class-restricted gamemodes.
