Sharp projectiles add fire dot to all Bloons they damage (1 damage every 2.5s for 5s total)
~ In-game description
FlintTips

Flint Tips is a Relic Knowledge exclusive to Contested Territory in Bloons TD 6. When active, it causes all attacks with the Sharp Sharp Type (pops Black, White, Purple) damage type to inflict a burn damage-over-time onto damaged bloons, dealing 1 damage after 2.5 seconds, for up to two damage ticks. Similar to Geraldo's Sharpening Stone, changing the damage type by any means other than Monkey Knowledge or other Relic Knowledge will revoke the special Flint Tips benefit.

List of Buffable Towers[]

For a tower or hero to become eligible for Flint Tips, at least one attack from that tower must contain the Sharp Type (pops Black, White, Purple) Sharp damage type by default. Any attack that does not contain Sharp as the default damage type cannot gain the bonuses from Flint Tips. For instance, Bomber Ace's bombs cannot benefit from Flint Tips (these bombs have the Explosion Type (pops White, Purple, Lead, Frozen) Explosion damage type) but its darts can.

Crosspaths listed below are measured in terms of "crosspath availability".

  • 2-5-4 Dart Monkey
  • 5-5-1 Boomerang Monkey
  • Bomb Shooter with exactly Frag Bombs (x-x-2) crosspath only. Any other path 3 does not have Sharp.
  • 2-2-5 Tack Shooter
  • 1-2-5 Ice Monkey but only Icicles and Icicle Impale (Note: Icicles count) (Note: Icicles become Normal type with Cold Snap (2-x-x).)
  • 0-5-5 Sniper Monkeys
  • 5-1-5 Monkey Subs (Note: main darts count)
  • All Monkey Buccaneers except Navarch of the Seas (Note: main darts and regular grapes count)
  • 4-5-5 Monkey Aces (Note: main radial darts count)
  • 4-5-5 Heli Pilots (including mini-Comanche) (Note: main darts count)
  • 2-2-1 Dartling Gunners
  • 0-3-3 Super Monkeys
  • All Ninja Monkeys except Ascended Shadow (Note: shurikens count)
  • 0-5-5 Druids (Note: including thorns and after-vines, but has no effect on spirit vines)
  • 1-5-5 Spike Factories
  • 5-5-0 Engineer Monkey (including Sentry Gun) (Note: nails count). (x-x-1 becomes Shatter type.)
  • 2-1-4 Beast Handler but not 0-0-0 (Note: Crosspaths are independent in this particular case because the buff affects specific beasts)
  • Quincy (Note: Regular arrows count)
  • Level 3-15 Obyn Greenfoot (Note: Brambles ability only)
  • Captain Churchill Level 5+ (Note: Machine gun counts)
  • Admiral Brickell (Note: pistol counts)
  • Etienne (Note: main drones count)
  • Sauda Level 1-6
  • Geraldo's Shooty Turret and Stack of Old Nails level 1-15 (Note: Nails works with Flint Tips but not Sharpening Stone)

Note 1: Special MK that grants popping of specific bloon types (e.g. HotMagicIcon Hot Magic) does not revoke use of Flint Stone, as this does not modify the de facto default damage type. Similar reasoning applies for Relic Knowledge.

Note 2: The main tower can pass on Flint Stone to all its subtowers, even if the subtowers cannot actually utilize the buff. An example of this is Sentry Expert, which gives the buff to its sentries despite none of them actually having the sharp damage type.

Strategy[]

Summary[]

An easy way to deal more damage in the early-game by rewarding use of the Sharp Type (pops Black, White, Purple) Sharp damage type. Some attacks excel with this Relic Knowledge, particularly Druid of the Jungle without Hard Thorns, letting its aftervines cause many bloons to catch fire. Towers still need lead-popping (e.g. Alchemist Touch) in order to deal with Leads and DDTs.

Tips[]

  • Use similar strategies to Sharpening Stone to figure out how to make use of Flint Tips. Remember to avoid certain upgrades that grant a different damage type unless it is necessary.
  • Some towers and upgrades are much stronger with Flint Tips than Sharpening Stone. Examples include: Blade Shooter, Druid of the Jungle, Glaive Ricochet and M.O.A.R. Glaives, Monkey Ace, and Heli Pilot.
  • While it is true that Flint Tips falls off in the late-game, the valuable early-game and mid-game damage from the Burn (standard bloons, unspecified alt variants) Burn damage-over-time compensates for this by reinforcing saveups to expensive investments.
  • Note that its burning effects can override other types of burning effects. However, since it only significantly affects Blooncineration and 5-0-2 The Biggest One in Contested Territory scenarios, the downsides of Flint Tips rarely matter.
  • Flint Tips works best on Time Attack, since many of the cheap early-game towers have a way to deal sharp damage, plus chipping in more damage overall for a big snowball effect to cash from pops. However, it remains powerful in just about any tile that requires a strong early-to-mid-game.
  • Flint Tips isn't so helpful on Boss but it does help minimise timer penalties by popping natural bloons quicker and efficiently.
    • On certain maps, Sauda for Boss rulesets allow her to almost completely solo the first 20 rounds without getting a penalty timer when given Flint Tips and set on Strong.
  • Monkey Ace's darts tend to benefit much from this MK for extra chip damage to ordinary bloons from stray darts.
