Proud, strong and intelligent, Quincy uses his bow to perform feats of amazing skill.
~ Bloons TD 6 description

Quincy is a Hero in the game Bloons TD 6. He specializes in archery-related weaponry. His main attack is an arrow that ricochets off of 3 targets. Quincy has medium range. He is an all-around Hero with a decent attack speed, good against popping early-game bloons, and is cheap enough to start with him in most games.

He costs $455 on Easy, $540 on Medium, $585 on Hard, and $650 on Impoppable. If Hero Favors is enabled, he will cost $410 on Easy, $485 on Medium, $525 on Hard, and $585 on Impoppable.

He was part of the initial release of the game (alongside Gwendolin, Striker Jones and Obyn Greenfoot).

Quincy has been the hero shown the most in social media, and is the starting hero of the game. The first mention of Quincy was in a blog post by HayleyBelleNK on 23 November 2017, which has revealed Quincy's silhouette, along with a note that reads "BTW, Quincy says 'Hi.'"

Quincy appears to be holding a compound bow with arrows with orange fletchlings at the ends. He also appears to be wearing a carbon suit with orange outlines and a few pouches.

In the 5.0 update, he was given a new skin, named Cyber Quincy, alongside a new appearance and new voice lines. Quincy's bow, arrows and suit outlines are now cyan colored. He also wears an eyepatch on his left eye(right eye on the artwork). The skin costs BloonjaminsIcon2500 to unlock.

In the 15.0 update, he was given a second new skin, named Wolfpack Quincy, alongside a new appearance and new voice lines. Quincy's eye is now a tint of green. He also wears small tufts of white wolf fur on his head and his suit. The skin costs BloonjaminsIcon2500 to unlock, just like Cyber Quincy.

Upgrades[]

Quincy will start upgrading himself every round upon placement. He earns more XP each round to unlock his next upgrade irrespective of how many bloons he pops. His upgrades can also be immediately bought with cash, though the amount of cash required to purchase the next upgrade will typically increase as the upgrades get higher, making self-upgrading an important element for his overall power.

Quincy's relative XP gain is 1x, and he is the basis for fast-leveling heroes.

The following are the upgrades:

Activated Abilities[]

Quincy has two activated abilities: Rapid Shot (Level 3+), and Storm of Arrows (Level 10+).

Rapid Shot Ability[]

RapidShotAA

Rapid Shot Ability

Rapid Shot increases Quincy's attack speed substantially for (level/2 + 2) seconds. The duration is 3.5s at Level 3 and increases by +0.5 seconds every level, up to 12s. It initially gives triple attack speed, increased to quadruple speed at Level 15+.

Cooldown of 60 seconds, 45 seconds at Level 15+.

Storm of Arrows Ability[]

StormofArrowsAA

Storm of Arrows Ability

Covers a large area in a deadly rain of arrows, popping affected bloons in its wide 100 radius. Bloons have a percentage chance of getting struck inside the radius every one frame of 60 FPS, with a minimum cooldown of 0.05s per hit. Whenever struck, the bloon takes damage, double damage to MOAB-class.

Levels 18 and 20 add more arrows and damage on top of the existing ability. Percentage chance increases from 5% to 7.5% at Level 18-19, and to 10% at Level 20. Initially deals 6 damage per strike, +6 to MOAB-class, and Level 20 raises the damage to 10 to ordinary bloons and +10 to MOAB-class.

Cooldown for the ability is 70 seconds, 55 seconds at Level 18+.

Strategy[]

Summary[]

Quincy is a valuable hero, mostly because he is affordable at the start of all normal game modes other than Half Cash. That being said, his value becomes even better during the mid-game with his Rapid Shot and Storm of Arrows upgrades, and even later on he becomes a powerful DPS source during the late-game. By late-game, he mostly acts as generalized MOAB-class demolition. He doesn't have many synergies with other towers, rather acting primarily as a source of supportive DPS, although he does pair decently with Berserker Brew and above upgrades.

Synergies[]

Main article: Synergy#Quincy

Tips[]

  • Quincy may be seen as weak during the early game due to slow attack speed. This can be circumvented with the use of Rapid Shot. He is also notable for easily getting camo detection before Round 24. With Rapid Shot, he is able to solo all pre-Round 40 camos.
  • Quincy after level 10 progressively gets attack speed bonuses at level 11 and 16.
  • Quincy especially shines when buffed by a Stronger Stimulant Alchemist, as both the arrows he fires get extra damage which is useful until he hits level 12 and gets more popping power, and still is to a lesser extent.
  • In the midgame, his MOAB damage becomes more significant, and Storm of Arrows is unlocked which helps on dense bloon rounds or to help cleanup grouped Ceramics.
  • Much of Quincy's true strength lies in the late game once he is upgraded. While he is only average at dealing with super ceramics, his high attack rate and base MOAB damage at later levels means that he can quickly deal damage to MOAB-class Bloons, even in clusters.
    • His Rapid Shot makes his damage even more formidable.
  • Storm of Arrows continues to help in cleaning up MOABs and Ceramics.
  • His base price makes him one of the only heroes (along with Sauda and Ezili) to be able to be afforded on Round 6 on CHIMPS Mode and solo early-game with little trouble.
    • This particular benefit is usually utilised in Muddy Puddles CHIMPS, Infernal CHIMPS, and certain community-made challenges. He has sufficient range and attack speed plus the added benefit of ricochets, which is enough to counter many early rounds on his own without support.

Version History[]

Balance Changes[]

Quincy's most significant buff was in Version 10.0, allowing him to become a viable starting hero option on almost all normal game modes. He gained further buffs in Version 11.0 to slightly counter his constant missing of targets, decrease liability of the Level 7's Exploding Arrows attack, and improving Storm of Arrows at countering MOAB-class bloons and Super Ceramics. He was later buffed to improve some of his later levels, NK embracing him as an "entry level hero" with a general "jack of all trades but master of none" vibe.

10.0
  • BUFF Base cost reduced ($700 → $540)
11.0
  • BUFF Quincy's base projectile speed increased (320 → 420)
  • BUFF Quincy's level 7 Exploding Arrow's now continue to pierce and ricochet after the initial explosion
  • BUFF Quincy's level 10 Arrow Storm damage increased (3 → 6)
  • BUFF Quincy's level 10 Arrow Storm deals 2x damage to MOAB-Class bloons
  • BUFF Quincy's level 20 Arrow Storm damage increased (5 → 10)
14.0
  • Quincy's arrows seeking have been changed.
    • This was not documented in the patch notes. It is speculated that there is a correlation with the Neva-Miss Targeting performance change. It is assumed this change was for the worse, but there is no objective evidence.
17.0
  • Quincy's arrows seeking have been changed. (?)
    • This was not documented in the patch notes. It is speculated that there is a correlation with the Glaive Ricochet seeking pattern change. It is assumed this change was for the better, possibly reverting to the pre-14.0, but there is no objective evidence.
30.0
This upgrade didn’t have enough impact so late in the game and upgrade tree.
~ Ninja Kiwi
  • BUFF Quincy's level 17 now shoots explosive arrows every 2nd shot instead of 3rd.
34.0
Quincy is a fairly average jack of all trades early on and does what’s required of him there fine, and while he’s an entry level hero that is very much meant to embody that jack of all trades but master of none feeling we’d like to add a little later end-game performance boost to his currently weak lv19 so he doesn’t drop off as much.
~ Ninja Kiwi
  • BUFF Quincy's level 19 now shoots 3 arrows at once instead of 2.
42.0
Quincy’s Storm of Arrows feels a little more like a downpour of wet pool noodles once Super Ceramics & especially their Fortified variants come around. However instead of making a drowning Quincy skin to pair with Lifegurd Brickell we are granting a large bonus to Ceramic Damage for the ability around the point you’ll need to deal with these.
~ Ninja Kiwi
  • BUFF Level 18 Storm of Arrows deals bonus damage to Ceramics +18
  • BUFF Level 20 Storm of Arrows deals bonus damage to Ceramics +24

Trivia[]

  • His in-game quotes confirm the correct pronunciations for some of the MOAB-class bloons. It is confirmed that BFB, ZOMG, DDT, and BAD are all officially pronounced by their initials, rather than as single words.
  • Quincy, alongside Churchill, Sauda, and Psi, are currently the only purely offensive heroes in BTD6, as they lack support capabilities.
    • They all can detect camos with their main attack, initially or at some point after leveling up.
  • In a Valentine's Day post on Facebook from Ninja Kiwi, Quincy is seen nervously holding a box of Valentine's candy which bears a tag with a picture of a flame on it. This may imply that Quincy has a crush on Gwendolin.
  • Quincy was the first Hero to receive an alternate skin, getting the Cyber Quincy skin in 5.0.
    • He was also the first Hero to receive a second alternate skin, getting the Wolfpack Quincy skin in 15.0.
  • One of Quincy's placement quotes is "Are you kidding me? Nothing gets past my bow!". While it can be interpreted as a lie, given his apparent weaknesses to Fast Bloons and inability to damage DDTs on his own, that quote is likely just him gloating about his archery skills.
    • The contradictory nature of this quote has made it a popular meme among the community.

Blog posts[]

  • According to Ninja Kiwi's 4th February 2022 blog, Quincy cries the most out of all the heroes.
  • According to Ninja Kiwi's 18th February 2022 blog, he eats banana porridge for breakfast.
  • According to Ninja Kiwi's 6th May 2022 blog, Quincy canonically has a crush on Gwendolin.
  • According to Ninja Kiwi's 3rd June 2022 blog, Quincy's Storm of Arrows works by having lots of arrows in the air waiting for Quincy to called by him when his Storm of Arrows ability is activated.

Cultural references[]

  • His line "I am Quincy, son of Quincy." may be a reference to the "I Am X, Son of Y" trope. It may also be a reference to the "Earl, son of Earl" greentext (link contains strong language), where the player created thousands of the same characters, each having the same statistics and name as the last one. Alternatively, it could also be a reference to the quote "I am Aragorn son of Arathorn" from Lord of the Rings. Additionally, the descriptions of of Quincy's alternate skins also have this line in some way, with the Wolfpack Quincy skin having the line "...he is Quincy, ancestor of Quincy.", and the Cyber Quincy having the line "He is Quincy, evolved from Quincy."
  • While the pet for the Quincy's original skin, Dad of Quincy technically follows the second half of the quote above, but it may be a reference to the Dad of War meme, which was poking fun of Kratos, the main character of the God of War series's radical character shift in God of War (2018).
  • His name may be a reference to the Quincy, a fictional race in the manga series Bleach, who also wield bows and arrows, albeit spiritual ones in their case.
  • Cyber Quincy's appearance from levels 1-6 is similar to the character Raiden from the Metal Gear series, mostly his appearance in Metal Gear Rising Revengance.
  • The date where the first mentions of Quincy back in November 23rd 2017 were posted coincides with the Sagittarius astrology sign. In fact, this date is precisely the starting date for Sagittarius.
    • Sagittarius is the constellation representing a centaur who wields a bow and arrow.
