The more bloons there are, the more damage it does!
~ In-game description

Avatar of Wrath is the fifth and final upgrade of Path 3 for the Druid in Bloons TD 6. It doubles its attack speed (1.1s to 0.55s, ignoring Heart of Vengeance and Druid of Wrath speed benefits), increases damage by +4, and range by +5, starting with 4 damage and 50 range. Additionally, Avatar of Wrath deals more damage the higher the RBE count there are on screen; both higher quantities of bloons and bloons with higher HP will cause the Avatar of Wrath to trigger higher damage. Because of the doubled attack speed, lightning bolts via 2-0-5 crosspath are also affected by the attack cooldown decrease, from every 2.3s to 1.15s.

The main power of Avatar of Wrath attack comes from its damage scaling with increased RBE on screen. It gains +1 damage for every 3000 RBE on screen, up to a maximum of +30 damage at 90,000 RBE. When given Heart of Thunder, the lightning bolts will receive the exact same damage scaling, +1 damage for every 3000 RBE on screen, up to +30 damage at 90,000 RBE.

This upgrade costs $38,250 on Easy, $45,000 on Medium, $48,600 on Hard, and $54,000 on Impoppable.

Overview[]

Avatar of Wrath

Avatar of Wrath represents wrath at its fullest. It becomes very red, from head to toe almost fully in red clothing, with full black for its wolf hood and black cape. Its druidic cloak, thick wristbands, and entire sleeves become red. The wolf hood becomes much more ferocious in appearance. On the official portrait, the Avatar of Wrath appears to be standing on a rock and screaming while expressing extreme wrath with a flaming red aura. Its eyes appear to have flames erupting in them.

Visually, the Avatar of Wrath appears to have four stages of wrath. It throws black bolts at its initial stage, red bolts at its second stage, orange bolts at its third stage, and at its final stage of wrath, it throws golden bolts.

Initially, the Avatar of Wrath gains +3 damage, 200% attack speed and +5 range, for a total for 4 damage, 0.55 reload speed and 50 range. In addition, the Avatar of Wrath attack gains +1 damage for every 3000 RBE on screen, up to a maximum of +30 damage at 90,000 RBE. When given Heart of Thunder, the lightning bolts will work similarly, these will gain the same damage scaling, +1 damage for every 3000 RBE on screen, up to +30 damage at 90,000 RBE.

Damage Scaling[]

The chart below shows how much RBE is needed to reach each visual stage of 'wrath'. Note that even when the Avatar of Wrath has reached the 4th tier of wrath, it is still able to increase its damage as it has not reached its actual cap (which is +30 damage at 90000 RBE).

'Wrath' Stage RBE Threshold
1 0
2 9000
3 30000
4 54000

Targeting Priorities[]

Avatar of Wrath targets bloons using the standard targeting priorities. It shoots straight movement projectiles.

  • First: Targets the first bloon visible within its range.
  • Last: Targets the last bloon visible within its range.
  • Close: Targets the closest bloon visible within its range.
  • Strong: Targets the strongest bloon visible within its range.

Avatar of Wrath has a tower buff that targets only nearby Druids, but itself.

Summary[]

Avatar of Wrath is extremely powerful when buffed and supported with the right combinations of towers, but is very weak on its own and tends to fail if certain towers interfere with the defense. It depends a suitable combination of support towers in order to become capable of single-handedly wiping out Rounds 81-100 with ease. As the description suggests, the Avatar of Wrath becomes more effective the more (and/or stronger) bloons there are on the screen. Certain types of support towers may actually worsen its performance overall, and as such those towers should be avoided if utilizing the Avatar of Wrath to the max.

The Avatar of Wrath becomes very powerful when supported by increased pierce and increased attack speed. When supported by a high-level Obyn Greenfoot, 5 nearby Poplusts, and a Stronger Stimulant Alchemist, it is able to shred Round 98 with ease on most maps. Avatar of Wrath requires Monkey Intelligence Bureau to pop Leads, which would allow it to wipe out DDT rounds too if supported by slows such as MOAB Glue or Bloon Sabotage.

However, it becomes much weaker when using support towers that reduce HP of incoming bloons such as Unstable Concoction or Shattering Shells. Because those support towers drop total HP of bloons on screen, they will weaken the damage of each Avatar of Wrath thorn, which in turn do more harm than good for the defense. Unstable Concoction in particular may produce large swarms of Super Ceramics from exploded blimps, which may cause the entire defense to become overwhelmed.

Because of how high RBE Boss Bloons naturally are, it is no wonder that Avatar of Wrath is amazing in Boss Bloon Events. Just by the Boss Bloon existing, it can reach max Wrath, allowing it to beome efficient in taking down mutiple tiers of Boss Bloons mostly by itself, allowing the player to focus on developing their method of income farming. This assumes that it is given the right buffs and that nothing interferes with Avatar of Wrath.

Tips[]

  • It is recommended to have 5 Poplust Druids around the Avatar since they will increase attack speed by +15% each, granting up to an additional 75% attack speed. The extra +15% pierce from each Poplust also helps Avatar of Wrath shred dense waves of bloons more effectively.
  • Level 2+ Obyn Greenfoot is recommended for the extra pierce, as hitting more bloons with a powerful bolt is very important for group MOAB-class bloons popping power, in addition to a full headstart to its wrath at Level 18+.
  • Permanent Brew is also recommended as it shoots too quickly, with extra pierce, range, attack speed and damage buff each bolts gets even stronger. Stronger Stimulant is still decent with Avatar of Wrath, however.
  • With pierce buff from other sources, it is better to get Thorn Swarm, without them it is better to get Hard Thorns. With Hard Thorns, Avatar of Wrath can potentially hit up to 10 bloons per throw, but Thorn Swarm benefits much more from other buffs.
  • The Heart of Thunder upgrade is affected by the special increased damage scaling at the full rate compared to its thorns. Heart of Thunder can also act as a big boost for the built-in Druid of Wrath attack speed scaling mechanics. It packs a chunk of grouped damage in exchange for worse single-target damage.
  • The ramping damage is based on the RBE on the screen, not the actual number of bloons. This means that strong singular bloons will have the same effect as many weaker bloons with an equal RBE.
  • The power it gains allows the Druid to tear through rushes of Ceramics or Rainbows as eventually, especially if there are multiple ZOMGs or a BAD on the screen, it gains enough damage to instantly destroy them.
  • Even if granted external camo detection, the thorns cannot pop lead bloons or DDTs without getting Hard Thorns crosspath or obtaining external lead-popping buffs (such as from a MIB, Acidic Mixture Dip, or Level 4+ Gwendolin) for assistance.
  • Avatar of Wrath gets much weaker without much RBE on screen. It is most evident when there are only MOABs or large quantities of Super Ceramics left on screen. As such, add supporting towers that deal with weaker bloons.
  • In Ranked Boss Events, because camo rainbows spawn early on in Round 56, it is possible to leak at least three camo rainbow bloons by not decamoing them to cap out a Heart of Vengeance Druid's attack speed. When Round 60 arrives, upgrading the druid to Avatar of Wrath makes it an extremely cost efficient damage option for Tier 2 when combined with Poplusts. If using Geraldo's Rejuv Potion, leak an extra rainbow or two, depending on whether one or two rejuvs will be used.

Version History[]

Balance Changes[]

On initial release, it was among the strongest Tier 5's at its time, especially with 0-1-5. As strategies become more developed by various buffs to more powerful options such as Apache Prime and Sky Shredder, Avatar of Wrath's role in the meta began to fade. However, Avatar of Wrath + Poplust + Obyn strategies remain popular among newer players and is one of the most efficient options on easier maps.

That being said, Avatar of Wrath received some buffs to its weaker 2-0-5 crosspath, giving that path some superior grouped bloon value over single-target value.

[...] Also by popular demand Avatar of Wrath's 205 crosspath will now benefit from improved Lightning damage proportional to the RBE of Bloons on screen similar to the main thorns.
~ Ninja Kiwi
  • BUFF 2-0-5 Avatar of Wrath's lightning bolts now are affected by a weaker version of the damage-scaling buff. Lightning Bolts from Avatar of Wrath now deal +1 damage for every 6000 RBE on screen, up to +15 damage.

Top path Heart of Thunder doesn’t scale well with tiers for an upgrade with such niche use & generally feels lacking, so it is seeing general power improvements across the board to upgrades that incorporate this attack. [...]

  • BUFF 2-0-5 Avatar of Wrath now applies its full RBE damage bonus scaling to Heart of Thunder

[...] Avatar of wrath doubles the base attack speed before any scaling is applied, but this hasn’t ever applied to the 205 Lightning, so taking care of that as well. [...]

Trivia[]

  • A red, electrical aura will appear around the Avatar depending on how much RBE is on the screen and what 'stage' it is at.
  • It appears to shoot black and red lightning bolts rather than thorns along with throwing off electricity when at full 'wrath'.
  • A single BAD can trigger the final stage of wrath, since its RBE is 55,760 (+18 damage) regardless of per-round health ramping. However, it does not deal max damage until 90,000 RBE.
  • Ignoring Sniper Monkeys, a 0-2-5 Avatar of Wrath is the most expensive tower in the game where all projectiles have 1 pierce by default.
  • Following the promotion of Bloon Exclusion Zone from Sharp to Shatter in Version 29.0, 0-2-5 Avatar of Wrath is the most expensive tower where all projectiles are of the Sharp damage type.
