Attacks convert Regrow Bloons into normal Bloons. Gains 1% pierce for every life gained from the starting value after the upgrade. Maxes at 100% and diminishes if lives are lost.
~ In-game description

Heart of Oak is the second upgrade in the middle path for the Druid in Bloons TD 6. Heart of Oak allows all Druid attacks to strip damaged Regrow Bloons of their regrow property.

Starting from Version 39.0, Heart of Oak now adds a 1% pierce buff for every 1 life gained from when the upgrade is bought. The pierce buff is capped at 100%. This buff will reverse if lives are lost. The pierce-gaining benefit has zero effect in game modes that ban life regeneration.

This upgrade costs $295 on Easy, $350 on Medium, $380 on Hard, and $420 on Impoppable.

Overview[]

Placeholder other

Heart of Oak stripping Regrow

With the Heart of Oak upgrade, the Druid receives a circular wooden shield with three green spikes in the middle of it. The Druid holds the shield with its left hand, but it holds it in its right hand in the upgrade portrait or when crosspathed with Hard Thorns or Heart of Thunder. For Druid of the Storm and Ball Lightning, the monkey holds both its wand and shield with its left hand.

Any regrow bloon hit by any of the Druid's attacks will lose their regrow properties. Also, Heart of Oak takes the concept of growth of life by gaining more pierce for extra lives gained beyond when the Druid was first purchased.

Targeting Priorities[]

Heart of Oak targets bloons using the standard targeting priorities. It shoots straight movement projectiles.

  • First: Targets the first bloon visible within its range.
  • Last: Targets the last bloon visible within its range.
  • Close: Targets the closest bloon visible within its range.
  • Strong: Targets the strongest bloon visible within its range.

Costs[]

Updated as of Version 42.0. Listed prices exclude external buffs, any sacrifices, and Monkey Knowledge.

Strategy[]

Summary[]

Heart of Oak's specialization is to counter Regrow properties, specifically stripping off Regrow properties to fill this role. Most Druids with this upgrade can be used to deal with spaced Regrows, but Druids that also have Path 1 upgrades can be used to effectively counter grouped Regrows.

Tips[]

  • The WarmOakIcon Warm Oak MK reduces the price of this upgrade by $100. Note that this applies after difficulty price multipliers.
  • Heart of Oak is largely useless on Path 3 Druids due to possessing little pierce to compensate its high attack speed, rendering them less useful at stopping Regrows. Even then, the pierce benefit it would gain from increased lives wouldn't outweigh the costs of Vengeance benefits.
  • If utilizing the degrowth properties of Heart of Oak, add Heart of Thunder as a crosspath, to allow the high-pierce lightning bolts to strip off Regrow Bloon properties.

Version History[]

Balance Changes[]

Heart of Oak was initially adjusted to make crosspathing more important and worthy with Heart of Oak. However, as time went by, Heart of Oak was buffed in Version 39.0 to add an interesting quirk that incorporates the opposite of Heart of Vengeance.

18.0
  • BUFF Heart of Oak now allows all attacks to degrow Regrow Bloons, not just thorns.
22.0
  • NERF Heart of Oak no longer removes Regrow from bloons not damaged.
39.0
Experimenting more with druid ‘life play’ functionality, similar to Heart of vengeance, we’re adding new functionality to Heart of Oak along with improved means of building into this with the Jungle’s Bounty upgrade, [...]
~ Ninja Kiwi
  • BUFF Heart of Oak now gains 1% pierce for every life gained from the starting value after the upgrade. Maxes at 100% and diminishes if lives are lost. Pierce-adjusting benefit applies for crosspath attacks except lightning (which cannot benefit from pierce).

Trivia[]

  • Heart of Oak, similar to Counter-Espionage and Perishing Potions, removes one specific bloon property type from bloons.
    • Coincidentally, all of these upgrades come from Magic Monkeys as the 2nd upgrade of their 2nd path (Druid, Ninja, Alchemist, in the respective order).
  • This, along with Heart of Thunder and Heart of Vengeance, all have the word "Heart" in it.

Version History (Trivia)[]

  • Version 18.0 added a secret undocumented buff that allows all attacks including thorns to degrow Regrow Bloons. The description was changed from "Thorns convert Regrow Bloons into normal Bloons." to the current description to accomodate these changes.
    • This change has also made the 2TC combo Superstorm + Sky Shredder possible, which allows Round 61 to be possible with just a 3-2-0 Druid.[1]
    • This buff was not at all mentioned in the Version 18.0 patch notes. It was, however, officially mentioned in the Version 19.0 patch notes.
  • There was a challenge in the Advanced Challenges of Daily Challenges that showcased the Heart of Oak's on-hit de-Regrow property prior to the Version 22.0 nerf that no longer allows this interaction.[Source?]
