“ | Attacks faster and freezes for longer. | ” |
~ In-game description |
Enhanced Freeze is the first upgrade of Path 2 for the Ice Monkey in Bloons TD 6. An Ice Monkey with the Enhanced Freeze upgrade receives an attack speed bonus of +33% (every 2.4s to 1.8s by default), and increases freeze duration from 1.5s to 1.75s. Unless this tower is upgraded to Tier 3 or above, it only freezes Ceramics for 50% duration, only lasting up to 0.875s.
This upgrade costs $190 on Easy, $225 on Medium, $245 on Hard, and $270 on Impoppable.
Description[]
Overview[]
An Ice Monkey with Enhanced Freeze gains a pair of red earmuffs. With Cold Snap and above, it also wears a light black hat overlapping the earmuffs.
Enhanced Freeze increases attack speed and freeze duration of the freeze attack, freezing just slow enough to freeze again right after bloons thaw, assuming no external speed benefits. It attacks every 1.8s and freeze duration to 1.75s. It also increases speed of other crosspaths by +33%.
Targeting Priorities[]
Enhanced Freeze produces freezing blasts in a zone-like style. Technically, the Ice Monkey is locked on the Close targeting priority. However, for simplicity reasons, this monkey has no targeting priorities.

Cleanup required This article or section needs cleanup. Please help Bloons Wiki by cleaning it up so that it meets Bloons Wiki's quality standards. Reason: 0-1-2 and 0-2-2 information is now useless for permastalling Ceramics, and attempting to OC it does nothing to help versus Ceramics. Double-check if it still can permafreeze Golden Bloons though; keep that portion if it does.... |
Enhanced Freeze improves the effectiveness of the Ice Monkey, patching not only its slow attack speed but improving its freeze duration. It freezes just short enough compared to its new attack speed to immediately freeze them again soon after. These two effects together are particularly useful in the early-game to let the Ice Monkey keep the bloons close to itself for a low cost.

- 0-1-2 Ice Monkeys (Enhanced Freeze + Re-Freeze) are very helpful for stalling bloons in place for an almost permanent stall. Especially for Super Ceramics. Without attack speed buffs, however, Super Ceramics can still move very slightly between each freeze, unless further upgraded to Deep Freeze.
- This is the most useful crosspath option for the Ice Monkey in most cases because of the added attack speed bonus that increases its overall reliability.
- Starting from Version 32.0, an Enhanced Freeze Ice Monkey without attack speed buffs freezes just slow enough to keep freezing the same bloons with little delay, and not ignore the already frozen bloons. This rework is particularly useful for early-game Ice Monkeys but greatly harms late-game stalling versus Super Ceramics.
- Note that adding Veteran Monkey Training does make it attack barely faster than the freeze duration, every 1.746s compared to 1.75s freeze time, although there is a special exception that prevents this from happening, so it will still act the same with or without MK.
- The 1-1-0 crosspath allows the Permafrost effect to keep getting applied as the bloon gets damaged by this Ice Monkey.

Version History[]
Balance Changes[]
Due to its bonus to speed and particularly 0-1-2 for permafreezing against Super Ceramics, Enhanced Freeze got nerfed in Version 32.0 to encourage 0-2-2 for that purpose. However, this added a slight caveat of indirectly buffing early-game Enhanced Freeze by creating just less than 100% freeze uptime, allowing recently unfrozen bloons to quickly become frozen again. Version 37.0 took away the capability for lower-tier Ice Monkeys to become fully effective at freezing Ceramics, also nerfing 0-1-2.

“ | Ice monkey Enhanced Freeze is too good at low tiers, allowing full stunlock of ceramics for very cheap, as the fire rate increase alone of this Enhanced Freeze is a powerful addition most of the increased freeze duration has been moved up as it makes more sense to have duration with the currently less desirable T2 Deep Freeze. - Enhanced Freeze freeze duration reduced from 2.2s → 1.75s. Deep Freeze freeze duration remains at 2.2s.

- 37.0
- Tier 2 and below Ice Monkeys only apply 50% freeze effect to Ceramics (x-1-x: 1.75s → 0.875s)

Trivia[]
- Unlike in previous games, instead of increasing the Ice Monkey's range, this version of Enhanced Freeze adds attack speed.
- Enhanced Freeze exists in BTD4, however, it is called Improved Ice Tower and works similarly to its BTD5 counterpart.
- This version of Enhanced Freeze does not add extra range; increasing radial size of Ice Monkey can only be readily obtained via the Larger Radius upgrade (besides Snowstorm, Absolute Zero, and Ice Shards, as well as Cryo Cannon if conversion into traditional projectile-firing towers counts).
