“ | Increases ship weapons fired. | ” |
~ In-game description |
Double Shot is the 2nd upgrade on the top path for the Monkey Buccaneer in Bloons TD 6. It makes the Monkey Buccaneer's main cannon fire two darts side by side every shot. It also affects Grape Shot and Hot Shot by increasing the number of grapes from 5 to 6, but has no effect on the cannon bombs from Cannon Ship or above.
This upgrade costs $360 on Easy, $425 on Medium, $460 on Hard, and $510 on Impoppable.
Description[]
Overview[]
This upgrade recolors the Buccaneer's wooden boat hull to a steel-like blue shade. The boat retains a pirate flag from the Faster Shooting upgrade.
On the upgrade portrait, the Monkey Buccaneer puts its right foot on the right cannon and makes an angry grin, showing a yellow tooth among many white teeth.
Double Shot doubles the base number of darts shot, and adds one more grape to grape shot. Darts are side-by-side and considered in a straight spray. Maximum angle of grapes do not change but the grapes are packed denser.
Targeting Priorities[]
Double Shot targets bloons using the standard target priorities. It shoots darts that are shot in a straight movement. It can also utilize multiple targeting to shoot projectiles from both ends of the boat if it detects bloons on its opposite side.
- First: Targets the first bloon visible within its range.
- Last: Targets the last bloon visible within its range.
- Close: Targets the closest bloon visible within its range.
- Strong: Targets the strongest bloon visible within its range.
If given the Crow's Nest upgrade, all its attacks can prioritize Camo Bloons over other types, which is provided by the Camo Prioritization targeting.

Strategy[]
Summary[]
Double Shot doubles the number of projectiles per shot for the dart attacks and improves density of the extra grapes. It is a relatively low-cost but reliable option for increasing overall damage output of the Buccaneer, especially when paired with Grape Shot.
Tips[]
- Due to the fact that this upgrade indirectly increases pierce and damage, positioning is important in order to maximize the Buccaneer's effectiveness.
- Ideally place the 2-x-x boats where there are straight track sections on roughly opposite sides of the water pool. If crosspathing with Grape Shot, inside a rounded loop can be fine as well, similar to Tack Shooter or Ice Monkey placement.
- Unless camo detection is needed, it is well worth upgrading with Grape Shot, as Double Shot will double the number of grapes fired too. This is especially good after upgrading to a Destroyer.
- When the Big Bunch MK is purchased, it is possible to get 7 grapes per shot normally or 14 when the Buccaneer attacks on both sides.
- If doing a Race Event with a 1-1-0 Buccaneer, upgrading to 2-1-0 is a nice cheap upgrade for boosting the dart attacks significantly in addition to the extra grapes, especially on a map with good flanking coverage.
Version History[]
Balance Changes[]
Crosspathing interaction added for Grape Shot. Price was increased slightly due to dominance of the Grape Shot crosspath, but cost decreased to account for the absence of grape crosspaths. Grapes were considered a significant reason for this upgrade, which has caused some crosspath imbalance, particularly for 2-5-0 Pirate Lord and 2-1-0 Buccaneer. Version 37.0 nerfed the crosspath interaction with Grapes resulting in 1 extra grape instead of extra 5.
- 17.0
- Double Shot now also doubles the numbers of grapes as well.

“ | We wanted to do a little general lower tier balancing of costs, as things work a bit better at higher tiers but on the lower end with T1-2 upgrades cost for power doesn’t compare well. We’ve realized that the 130 crosspath just hasn’t even been working for cannons, so we wanted to correct this so that people get all that they pay for with that crosspath, however middle path buccaneer at higher tiers has been overperforming significantly so in addition to this attack speed buff we have also balanced back out that difference in the opposite direction with a damage reduction. | ” |

- Double Shot cost increased ($550 → $425)

“ | Reworking Grape Shot crosspathing as it gains far too much crosspath value by T2 but then is lacking in purpose at higher tiers, double shot will only work as one extra grape however Destroyer will now apply its full attack rate buff to the grapes and Flagship will equip aspects of Grape Shot on the mini planes. | ” |

- 2-1-0 Double Shot’s Grape Shot total projectiles reduced 10 → 6
- Double Shot now only adds only one extra grape from 5 → 6
