Extra deadly spikes can pop through 2 layers per spike and last even longer.
”
~ BTDB2 description
Deadly Spikes is the 4th upgrade on Path 3 of the Spike Factory in Bloons TD Battles 2. To account for the absence of round-based lifespans of all spikes, Deadly Spikes provides even more lifespan to the spikes, unlike its BTD6 counterpart. It increases the damage of each spike from 1 to 3, effectively tripling its popping power. Spikes last for 240 seconds instead of 170 seconds from Long Life Spikes. Start-of-round speed benefit is still 5 seconds duration. Also slightly cheaper.
It costs $3,200, and is unlocked with the purchase of Spike Factory.
It is a very expensive upgrade that is requires stalling and adequate exit protection to maximize its true value. In Battles 2, other options of the same price offer better results in general, particularly 3-0-2 Spiked Balls. However, Deadly Spikes can be paired with other tanking towers such as the aforementioned Spiked Balls to act as tanking of universal Bloon types, in the transition to Permaspike, and is generally less disadvantaged against MOAB-class bloons due to the higher base damage.
Tips[]
Crosspathing with 0-2-4 is better when externally buffed, but more practical with 1-0-4 to generate much larger stockpiles, and 2-0-4 counters Frozen and Lead properties.
Well-stockpiled Deadly Spikes should have no trouble at tanking several MOABs, including Fortified MOABs. Also, the layer-skipping by dealing 3 damage to bloons allows fewer spikes to be consumed.

“
This upgrade simply does not provide enough value for its high price tag, especially when Spiked Balls provides a cheaper alternative. We have decided to give this upgrade a major damage buff, which should definitely shake things up.

Deadly Spikes cost decreased ($3500 -> $3300)
Overall price decrease is $400 due to Spactory price buff.
“
[...] xx3’s duration remains unchanged and xx4 has been buffed so that these upgrades can offer an alternative option.
Spike Factory’s bottom path has potential but often is not the best option because it must be bought in advance to build up a decent pile. Since the bottom path is all about longer durations, we’ve increased the duration of the speed boost at the start of each round, allowing slightly beefier spike piles to be built up in the short term.

3.3
Deadly Spikes start-of-round speed increase decreased from 6s to 5s
“
We liked the previous change to xx3 and are glad to see this upgrade frequently being used now. However, it’s a bit too strong and so we would like to slightly lower the duration of the speed boost.
