“ | Shoots darts like a machine gun, super fast but not very accurate. The Dartling Gun will shoot towards wherever your mouse is, so you control how effective it is! | ” |
~ Flash description |
The Dartling Gun is a tower in Bloons TD 5, Bloons TD Battles, and Bloons Monkey City. It retains its role from Bloons TD 4, with significant additions.
The Dartling Gun attacks by rapidly firing darts at a specific position that is controlled by the player. For mobile devices, this is the last position that the play area was tapped on; for PCs, this is the position of the mouse; and for the console version of BTD5, this is the position of the left-stick cursor. Its shots have a wide degree of spread. Each dart can pop 1 Bloon at a time and it can pop Camo Bloons, but it cannot pop Lead Bloons or Frozen Bloons without upgrades.

Mobile version history[]
In general, Dartling Gun is fairly balanced, but has been buffed via game updates as some upgrades have been buffed for balancing reasons.
Dartling is quite a versatile tower but is often very expensive to be reliable grouped bloon-popping power or MOAB-class-popping power. In Version 4.3.1, it was significantly buffed to be a much more reliable tower in the early-game, particularly against Grouped Reds. Later Dartling became drastically more used when people discovered the exploit with Hydra Rocket Pods and Monkey Fort, which can easily defend pretty much anything. Popular loadouts include Dartling-Farm-Village, Dartling-Farm-Ice, Dartling-Farm-Bomb, and Dartling-Village-Ice.

The Dartling Gun's population is increased by building Dartling Gun Caches, which are unlocked at City Level 5. Its upgrades can be researched by building the Gun Training Hall (Flash version) or Dartling Test Range (mobile version). Its tier 4 upgrades require building the Crystal Fusion Array and Advanced Rocket Lab respectively, in order to be researched.
