The Dart Monkey is the most basic unit of Bloons TD Battles 2, throwing darts that pop the bloons. It can be upgraded to fit a variety of upgrades designed for early-game popping power or powerful upgrades with specific niches.
The aim of this article is a general guide for using the Dart Monkey. It summarizes how to effectively use Dart Monkey without going into too much intricate detail about meta strategy.
Base Tower[]
- Cost: $200
- Unlock: Default
The base Dart Monkey throws darts at a moderate speed, each dart popping up to 2 bloons. It is the cheapest base tower in the game, making them a versatile unit for popping bloons for a low cost.

Spike-o-pult replaces darts with slow-firing spiked balls that pop many bloons per shot. It should target along straight lines so that it can maximize its pierce and compensate for its slow attack speed. These spiked balls also pop Frozen Bloons, allowing a positive synergy with Ice Monkeys.
Juggernaut[]
- Cost: $1,800
- Path: 1
- Tier: 4
- Unlock: Default
Juggernaut attacks faster, increases the size of the spiked balls, increases projectile speed and pierce of each spiked ball, allows popping of Lead Bloons, and deals extra damage to all visible bloon types including Ceramics. It becomes much more reliable against groups of bloons.
Ultra-Juggernaut[]
Ultra-Juggernaut shoots much stronger juggernauts that split into 6 normal juggernauts, in addition to massive damage to all bloon types especially Ceramics, Leads, and Fortified. All juggernauts can rehit bloons if they bounce off walls, so make use of walls for maximium damage potential.
Quick Shots[]
- Cost: $100
- Path: 2
- Tier: 1
- Unlock: Default
Dart Monkeys with the Quick Shot upgrade attack about +11% faster. An appreciable attack speed increase that helps it make attacks quicker.

Super Monkey Fan Club[]
- Cost: $8,000
- Path: 2
- Tier: 4
- Unlock: Default

Plasma Monkey Fan Club[]
Plasma Monkey Fan Club upgrades its special ability to transform itself and 19 other Dart Monkeys into powerful Plasma Monkeys. These are equivalent to higher-damage Plasma Blasts Super Monkeys that attack much quicker. It is the most powerful aspect of the Dart Monkey during the late-game, and synergizes well with external benefits.
Long Range Darts[]
- Cost: $90
- Path: 3
- Tier: 1
- Unlock: Default
Dart Monkeys gain increased range with the Long Range Darts upgrade. If the Dart Monkey needs to shoot a bit further, this is the upgrade to get. It is the cheapest upgrade in the game, although with only a marginal benefit compared to the Dart Monkey's other cost-effective upgrades.

- Path: 3

Sharp Shooter attacks slightly faster, deals 6 damage per shot, and inflicts critical hits every 8 shots, dealing 50 damage on affected targets. Make use of the higher damage arrows to reduce the dangerousness of higher-HP targets.
Crossbow Master[]
Crossbow Master attacks significantly faster, in addition to much more damage, more pierce, more range, and greatly increasing frequency of crits. It serves as a moderately inexpensive high-DPS tower that can take care of various early late-game rushes.
General Strategy[]
This section is incomplete. You can help by expanding it. |
To optimize the Dart Monkey, the Dart Monkey should be used primarily to ease the early-game. Many of its upgrades supplement in that role for various purposes, especially up to its Tier 3 upgrades. Its higher-tier upgrades are more powerful, fulfilling roles that certain defenses may not be capable alone.
Each of its upgrades can be utilized for great effect. Tier 3 upgrades assist with popping early-game bloons in specific map formations; Spike-o-pult for maximized pierce along straight lines, Triple Shot for general popping power along curved and straight lines, and Crossbow for higher-tier bloon popping power along straight lines. Its Tier 4 upgrades each fill specialized roles that distinctly determine their use cases, with Juggernaut fulfilling general grouped damage and lead-popping, Super Monkey Fan Club dealing rapid general damage, and Sharp Shooter specializing in supportative damage. Its Tier 5 upgrades may be useful if late-game is prominent, particularly Plasma Monkey Fan Club.
