Lots of 2-0-3 Dark Knights and a 1-0-3

Dark Knight is the 3rd upgrade on Path 3 of the Super Monkey in Bloons TD Battles 2. It serves as a statistical increase to its MOAB-class damage and knockbacking power, like its BTD6 counterpart. It deals +2 MOAB-class damage plus extra pierce and knockbacking plus innate camo detection. However, it applies a stronger knockback against Leads and Ceramics, immobilizing them with -100% speed (instead of -90% speed in BTD6), and lacks bonus Camo damage. Dark Knight starts with 5 pierce, more with crosspaths (1-0-3: 6, 2-0-3: 7, 0-1-3: 6, 0-2-3: 8).

It costs $4,500, and is unlocked with the purchase of Super Monkey.

Strategy[]

Summary[]

Dark Knight is a very strong blimp-popping option, especially for its price and general versatility. The strongest part of it is the potency against DDTs. It also does great at handling Ceramics by stopping them in place for as long as they attack.

Tips[]

  • 2-0-3 Dark Knight's +50% extra attack speed and default DDT-damaging assists its role as a general damage tower, especially versus DDTs. 0-2-3 Dark Knight, in contrast, performs better against groups of bloons, as well as attacking and teleporting across longer ranges.
  • It is one of the prime MOAB-class popping options, as this offers stronger blimp-popping, which will make it easier to handle DDTs. Using this upgrade to win games is one of the better ways to grind Super Monkey XP.

Flash bug

  • [1.2.0] In Version 1.2.0, there is a bug with Dark Knight that creates giant visual flashes that obstruct the view of the player's map; this can be seen by both the player and their opponent. The bug has also caused lag problems. This has not occurred in previous updates. Patched in 1.2.1.
  • [1.2.0] In Version 1.2.0, a separate bug occurs that lets it throw from both arms simultaneously. Patched in 1.2.1.

Version History[]

Dark Knight was previously a popular meta tower in the first few versions, and often paired with Dartling to accompany its high MOAB-class damage with Dartling's oppressive Hydra Rocket Pods for bloon damage. It has received a minor price nerf for the upgrade itself and the Knockback upgrade to make Dark Knight align better with other T3 Super upgrades. It remains popular in Super loadouts, such as Dartling-Super.

We have made significant adjustments to a lot of Super Monkey’s upgrades, as we feel like Super Monkey is not and has never been properly balanced for this game. While its main strength is its late game and we want to keep it that way, we do not think it should be to the extent where it has almost no use in the early/mid game. Therefore, we are making some pretty big price cuts to the early tiers, while adjusting the tier 3s to balance out these price cuts so that they don’t become too strong. A lot of the higher tiers have either been too expensive or too inefficient to have any practical use in ranked matches, and we want to change that. [...]

Plasma Blasts in an upgrade that rarely gets used on its own (usually just used as a crosspath), so we’ve lowered its cost while adjusting 3xx and xx3 so that their total cost remains unchanged. [...]
