Dark Dungeons is an Expert map in Bloons TD 6. It was announced on April 11, 2022, as one of three winners of the 200k Map Concept Competition, along with Erosion and Covered Garden. It was originally designed by Lars_Overwick. It was initially intended to be released in Version 34.0, but was instead delayed to Version 35.0, which released on 16th February 2023, alongside with Middle of the Road.
Overview[]
As originally designed by Lars_Overwick, the map is divided into a grid of six rooms, with a top row of three rooms and a bottom row of three rooms. Each room is separated by walls, with the tracks passing through doorways to go between rooms and exit the map.
MOAB-Class Bloons travel on alternating paths, one from right to left, on a track through the top three rooms, and the other upwards on the short middle path. All other Bloons travel, bottom-to-top, in three separate but simultaneously-used vertical paths that span the three columns of the grid. The outer vertical paths intersect the MOAB-Class path, while the inner vertical path does not. The inner column path is at a lower elevation to the rest of the map.
In the top middle room is the middle section of the MOAB-Class path, which passes by the Dungeon Statue, with both overlooking the doorway containing the exit of the inner column path. The bottom-right room contains a sludge pool in which water towers can be placed.
Dungeon Statue[]
- Main article: Dungeon Statue
The Dungeon Statue can be unlocked by clicking both torches near the middle of the map, then clicking the statue quickly. Doing so opens a prompt similar to an obstacle removal box, asking for a $50,000 payment. Upon paying this amount, the statue will activate and summon a blue bolt of magic that functions similarly to Geraldo’s rabbit and Primary Expertise’s projectiles, zooming around the map to attack the Bloons.
At Level 1, the bolt deals 100 damage. The statue can then be selected like a normal tower, and can be upgraded for $100,000 to Level 2. This increases the bolt's damage to 250 and changes its color to purple. For $200,000, the statue can be further upgraded to Level 3, which further increases the bolt's damage to 500 and turns the bolt pink. These costs are not affected by difficulty, nor are they affected by Removable Cost modifiers in Challenge Editor. The Dungeon Statue's bolt cannot target Purple Bloons, but can target and pop any other Bloon type.
Spike Traps[]
In addition to unlocking the Dungeon Statue, clicking the torches nearest the center of the map also triggers two Spike Traps, one at each intersection in the top half of the map. These spikes deal 5 damage and +5 Ceramic damage, stun any Bloons they hit for 1 second, and can damage any non-MOAB bloon including Frozen Bloons and Lead Bloons. These spikes disappear after 10 seconds, after which they undergo a 50-second cooldown period. This cooldown cannot be bypassed by using Geraldo’s Rejuv Potion. The left torch triggers the Spike Trap on the left-hand intersection, while the right torch triggers the one on the right-hand intersection.
Path Structure[]
Each of the 4 paths has its own entrance and exit. Ordinary Bloons travel along all three vertical paths, while MOAB-Class Bloons travel along the horizontal path and the central vertical path.

Tips[]
- 3-0-2 Spiked Balls and Dragon's Breath are good mid-game options on this map for the lateral rooms.
- The middle MOAB lane is very short. 3-2-0 Spiked Balls can be used to protect the middle MOAB lane's exit, which is helped out by its increased production speed and high base damage.

“ | Dark Dungeons - this community designed 200k reddit competition winner certainly lives up to the challenge of making a hard map. Added to the Expert category, we changed the proportions for gameplay, riffed on the statue idea, and added traps as any dungeon needs but hopefully did justice to the inspired original submission by u/Lars_Overwick. | ” |

- 35.1
- [Bug Fix]: Resolved a number of cases in which towers could target the Dark Dungeons statue for buffs even though they would not do anything.
- [Bug Fix]: Dark Dungeons statue can no longer be selected as a Door Gunner target as with the range it has this only served to destroy it
- 36.0
“ | The Spike Traps on Dark Dungeons weren’t intended to have a stun element and having this has scaled them through the game more effectively than intended, this has caused some balance implications so we are reducing the duration of the stun significantly. We also wanted to try out a few tweaks to the secret statue, allowing v2 to 1shot super ceramics, and v3 to 1shot fortified super ceramics along with a slight projectile speed increase on each upgrade. | ” |

Trivia[]
- Dark Dungeons has some concept art that was implemented in its release.[1] Much of its features were added, with the general core intention of a unique difficult Expert Map being fulfilled as a whole.
- The following features were added: a 10x more expensive statue as base cost, capability of upgrading the statue, adding a second MOAB lane to share the middle bloon lane, and activatable torches and their spiky traps.
- The following features did not: removing the statue, several spooky decorations.
- Double-tapping the bottom left corner of the sludge pool will make a sludge monster pop out. It will go back in when double tapped. This has no effect on gameplay.
- According to Ninja Kiwi's 36.0 patch notes, Dark Dungeon's spiky traps were not intended to stun bloons. The spiky traps applying a stun may possibly be caused by these spiky traps being reformatted from code that runs the Scrapyard's compressor.
