“ | Throws out secondary bombs instead of sharp fragments every shot. | ” |
~ BTDB2 description |
Cluster Bombs is the 3rd upgrade of Path 3 for the Bomb Shooter in Bloons TD Battles 2. It is similar to its BTD6 counterpart except that secondary clusters cannot hit the same bloon, each shot only hitting up to twice with separate primary and secondary explosions. It is the following upgrade of Frag Bombs, the second tier of the bottom path, and all explosions including secondary clusters pop Black Bloons.
Secondary clusters are in numbers of 8. A secondary cluster has 8 pierce and 18 blast radius, plus more pierce and greater blast radius with Bigger Bombs and Heavy Bombs. With Bigger Bombs, pierce increases to 14 and blast radius to 27. Heavy Bombs increases that pierce value to 20.
It costs $900, and is unlocked by default.
Strategy[]
Summary[]
In a similar fashion to its BTD6 counterpart, Cluster Bombs is best suited for wiping out bloons over a wide area. These secondary explosions are more like second larger explosions, which acts nicely with the initial explosion. However, its power and purposes are very different from its BTD6 counterpart; it deals widespread consistent explosive damage instead of concentrating multiple projectiles over a close area. In effect, it is not as powerful against MOABs in comparison but is consistently strong against ordinary bloons. Unlike most explosive options, it comes with black-popping power, making it excel at crushing mid-game rounds especially when combined with Heavy Bombs.
A well-positioned Cluster Bombs excels in the early-to-mid-game, particularly with the Heavy Bombs upgrade, although the saveup can be fairly difficult to achieve. It is helpful to purchase Cluster Bombs and its crosspaths in advance in order to avoid losing too many lives when attempting to greed for income sources such as Banana Farms at the same time, although advanced players can avoid unneeded upgrades until truly necessary while keeping up solid farming.
Tips[]
- Use either the 2-0-3 crosspath for extra damage per explosion, 0-2-3 for rate of explosives, or 0-0-3 to save extra money for the late game or for rushes. Usually, 2-0-3 is better for the long-term, as this helps penetrate more layers and deal with densely packed bloons more reliably.
- Two Cluster Bombs with the 2-0-3 crosspath can defend Regen Rainbow rushes as of 1.1.1.
- Cluster Bombs works particularly well on maps such as Star, having a large enough explosion radius to adequately cover wide loops.

“ | Cluster Bombs has always stood out as a top tier early-mid game tower, leaving very little room for effective rushes against it on certain maps. We have decided to limit the pierce increase that 2xx gives to the clusters since it’s an extremely efficient upgrade, providing a big pierce bonus on top of extra damage. | ” |

Trivia[]
- The Cluster Bombs has had a wild history of having black-popping power in BTD6 and BTDB2 counterparts. When first released, the BTDB2 counterpart lacked black-popping power when compared to the BTD6 counterpart which did. Then both Cluster Bombs had black-popping power, but the 41.0 BTD6 counterpart lost that, leaving the BTDB2 counterpart to retain black-popping power.
