Close is a target priority, first released on Bloons TD iOS, a port of BTD3, as "Near". Close targeting was later first released on PC/Flash with Bloons TD 5 Flash, and has been introduced to the rest of the Bloons TD 5 Generation ever since. It is the third target priority of the majority of the towers in the game. Towers set on the Close target priority will target the closest bloon visible within its visible range. For towers with on-track attacks, such as Spike Factory, they will target the closest region of track visible within their range. In Bloons TD iOS, all towers have an equivalent of Close called "Near".

In Bloons TD 6, some attacks are locked on Close. Many of these are those that utilize zone-based attacks, such as Ice Monkeys and Tack Shooters, as well as on-track attacks such as Bloon Trap. Attacks in BTD6 locked on Close include, but are not limited to:

Some attacks were previously locked on Close in BTD6. These included Phoenix and Lava Phoenix flames, and Ezili's MOAB Hex jumps. Obyn Greenfoot's Wall of Trees, Cleansing Foam, and Bloon Trap with Larger Service Area all default on Close but can change to any targetable location by use of Selectable Target. Similarly, Guided Magic's Wall of Fire interaction was changed in Version 33.0 to follow a selectable targeting similarly to Cleansing Foam, instead of defaulting on Close and automatically moving according to targeting via Dynamic Targeting.

Strategy[]

Summary[]

This targeting priority is much more niche than the First and Strong as it misses out on the simplicity of first, and the single-target prioritization of Strong, while also struggling to find towers and upgrades who benefit the most from this targeting priority. Close targeting does benefit towers that rely on slow moving projectiles, or as a way to prioritize bloons at a specific point in the track. One tower that benefits from this targeting is the Bomb Shooter, which is prone to missing bloons further away from it. Another tower that oddly benefits from it is the Cripple MOAB in BMC Contested Territory. While it may not make much sense at first why Cripple MOABs are set to Close instead of Strong, the reason they are set to Close is because the stun duration does not stack on the same blimp, thus using the Close targeting lets tens of Cripple MOABs spread out their targets.

Tips[]

  • It may help to hug the tower close towards the track in order to have better likelihood of touching that point.

Trivia[]

  • In Bloons TD 6, a lot of in-game translations for "Close" incorrectly define it as "to close" rather than "close to something" or "closest".
  • There is an in-game code comment in Bloons TD 5 Mobile that specifies to language translators about specific translation of the Close targeting: "Close" as in near, opposite of far. Not opposite of open.
