Cleansing is an status effect characterized by removing specific types of bloons and neutralizing them into less "dangerous" bloons. It is part of the damage types family.

Cleansing is represented on Bloons Wiki as Cleansing (pops non-DDT leads into descendants), the upgrade portrait for BTD6 Cleansing Foam, depicting the monkey's apparent eagerness for cleanliness, and because the upgrade's upgrade icon is not representative enough due to featuring just a Camo Bloon. Cleansing is not the same as Downgrade Layer Downgrade Layer (removes 1 layer off of affected bloon, regardless of health) because Downgrade Layer is often universal in what bloons are affected, and it's based mainly on damage. Cleansing is classified as a property-stripping status effect, as it is the removal of a specific bloon type, sort of like rubbing off dead skin flakes with soap but leaving the live skin intact. While Bloon Master Alchemist's instashrinking potions do count as "cleansing" by neutralizing affected bloons into Red Bloons, Red Bloon Transform Red Bloon Transform (unspecified damage) is classified as an Instakill Instakill Bloon(s) (unspecified types of bloons targeting, and quantity) purely by how much damage it does.

An example of Cleansing is, to no surprise, Cleansing Foam. What makes the BTD6 Cleansing Foam considered "Cleansing" as distinct from Extra Damage to Leads Extra damage to Leads (unspecified damage) is how its foam only ever damages non-DDT Lead Bloons by converting them into Black Bloons. In BATTD, Marceline's Eating Red can also be considered Cleansing because it only targets red bloons and BFBs, with the ability to completely remove the former by neutralizing them. In Bloons TD Battles 2, Smudge Catt Ezili's Screech ability can pop all Purple Bloons into Pink Bloons.

All attacks require an upgrade to apply Cleansing behavior.

Trivia[]

  • In the in-game code, the parameter cleanseLead in the Projectiles.Behaviors.RemoveBloonModifiersModel section is used to program the cleansing of Lead Bloons. However, the stripping of Regrow, Camo, and Fortified are also listed as cleansing (i.e. cleanseRegen, cleanseCamo, cleanseLead), but instead are more well-known as Degrow, (unspecified alt variants) Degrow, Decamo, (unspecified alt variants) Decamo, and Defortify (Leads and Ceramics, unspecified alt variants) Defortify. Likewise, cleanseOnlyWhenDamaged is coded as either "on-hit" if set to false or "on-damage" if set to true.
