2.8 million Bloonville units. Whoever tastes this special sauce will be spewing fire for a while! Now with extra burny-ness.
~ Description of "Bottle of 'Gerry's Fire' Hot Sauce" at Level Level 16+

The Bottle of 'Gerry's Fire' Hot Sauce is an item purchasable in Geraldo's Shop beginning at Level 8. When placed on a tower or sub-tower, the Hot Sauce summons a red hot spirit that orbits counterclockwise, spewing a stream of fire at 50 Range centered on the spirit. These flames fire every 0.1s with 1 damage, +1 extra Ceramic damage, 4 pierce, and a burn effect dealing 1 damage per 1.5 seconds for 3.1 seconds. At Level 16+, the burn effect improves to 3 damage per second for 1.5 seconds. The Hot Sauce expires after 5 rounds, increased to 10 rounds if it is from Level 16+ Geraldo. When first unlocked, Geraldo will supply 2 Gerry's Fires, and Gerry's Fire restocks every 2 rounds.

The Hot Sauce Spirit is considered both a Sub-Tower and a Tower Buff. As such, it considers the affected tower to be the parent, not Geraldo (unless Geraldo is the target tower). Hot Sauce can also be applied onto any interactable towers except for Paragons and Ezili's Sacrificial Totem. It will inherit most buffs and speed-boosting abilities affecting the host tower. Hot Sauce Spirit is locked on First regardless of targeting priority of the parent tower. Even if the parent tower cannot ignore Line of Sight, Hot Sauce Spirit can always ignore Line of Sight.

It costs $510 on Easy, $600 on Medium, $650 on Hard, and $720 on Impoppable.

Behavior and Interactions[]

The Hot Sauce bottle can be applied to most towers with the following behavior observed.

  • Hot Sauce can be applied to all towers except Paragons.
  • Hot Sauce can be applied to all interactable Sub-Towers except Ezili's Sacrificial Totem.
  • Hot Sauce can not be applied to towers with Hot Sauce already applied.
  • Hot Sauce can be applied to the Cave Monkey
  • Hot Sauce can be applied to all interactable Powers
    • When applied to a Banana Farmer, no pop count will be displayed on the portrait Menu. However, it is possible to view the pop count by selling all other damage dealing towers before the game ends to view the pop count on the Victory Callouts. However, this card incorrectly uses the cash generated icon for the pop count.
  • Hot Sauce can be applied to passive towers such as Villlages and Farms.
    • When applied to a Farm, no pop count will be displayed on the Upgrade Menu. However, it is possible to view the pop count by selling all other damage dealing towers before the game ends to view the pop count on the Victory Callouts. However, this card incorrectly uses the cash generated icon for the pop count.
  • Hot Sauce does gain attack speed from range-oriented buffs such as Jungle Drums and Homeland Defense.
  • Hot Sauce does not benefit from Overclock or Ultraboost buffs.
  • Hot Sauce does not benefit nor consume Alchemist Buffs.
  • Hot Sauce will inherit speed boosts that are aqcuired by activated abilities: Turbo Charge, Perma Charge, Artillery Battery's Bombardment, and Absolute Zero.
  • It does not increase the sell value of a tower, nor will it affect the sacrificial value of its host, except for adding pop count.
  • If the tower has camo detection by any means (innately, internal upgrade, or externally), the Hot Sauce can detect camo too.

Strategy[]

Summary[]

Bottle of 'Gerry's Fire' Hot Sauce provides a temporary boost in short-ranged, rapid-fire damage as well as lead-popping power, allowing for a flexible adjustment against Bloon and MOAB-class rushes. It is unique as a Tower Buff, in that its damage output is mostly independent of its host tower statistics. However, its impermanence makes it best suited to fulfilling a temporary countermeasure, and the limited stock rate of the Gerry's Fire item controls the maximum numbers of active Gerry's Fire spirits at a given round. Therefore, it is typically more advisable to save up for more permanent upgrades. That being said, Gerry's Fire spirits have unique interactions with particular tower types that allow the spirits to inherit certain buffs, including speed buffs, in a similar manner to Total Transformation interactions.

Spirits from Gerry's Fire can have unique interactions with certain buffs. One notable example is interactions with attack speed benefits, especially Turbo Charge. Speed benefits for the spirits also work for an activated Artillery Battery and Quincy with Rapid Shot active. Some interactions can also cause the projectiles to modify, notably the aforementioned Turbo Charge but also Perma Charge. Attack speed benefit interactions that work for Total Transformation also work for Gerry's Fire.

Tips[]

  • Place the Bottle in weak areas or defense, or at the intersection of passive buffs.
  • Gerry's Fire acts roughly like a stronger, slightly mobile, shorter range Dragon's Breath, and thus is best paired with towers that have trouble clearing out clumps of bloons.
    • In particular, towers with high MOAB damage but low normal bloon damage are well-suited to receiving Gerry's Fire, as they will receive valuable clean-up potential for several rounds at little additional cost.
  • Gerry's Fire is quite cheap for the amount of power it brings, and thus is actually quite spammable. If you think the next bloon rush will overwhelm you, make full use of Gerry's Fire's low cost and apply it to as many towers as you see fit.
  • Gerry's Fire unlocks at level 8, which without any Monkey Knowledge is after the first Lead Bloon rounds, even with the higher XP gain on more difficult maps; as such, it cannot be utilized for early game lead popping. You will have to rely on other towers instead.
  • Do not place Gerry's Fire on Sentries or other temporary sub-towers, or otherwise the spirit will disappear with them.
  • Additionally, the spirit also directly adds pops to the targeted tower, which can make it useful for building into Paragons.
  • Attack speed benefit interactions which work for Total Transformation that also work for Gerry's Fire include: Druid of Wrath including nearby Poplusts, Shinobi Tactics, Ice Monkeys with Absolute Zero ability activated, and Sniper Monkeys buffed by Elite Sniper.
  • Gerry's Fire synergizes well with Jar of Pickles, as the individual flames deal only 1 damage but has high attack speed.
  • For building into Grandmaster Ninja, a Gerry's Fire onto a Bloonjitsu buffed by multiple Shinobi Tactics makes the fire attack very quickly and pierce a lot of bloons, smoothening the transition into that expensive T5 upgrade. This is especially helpful on #Ouch.
  • Grand Saboteur paired with multiple Shinobi Tactics are also very strong synergies for the Gerry's Fire, as a Gerry's Fire on a Shinobi Tactics with multiple Shinobi stacks and the GSabo ability buff will inflict a great deal of damage.
  • The upgraded Gerry’s Fire is no stronger than the original Gerry’s Fire except for the stronger DoT. As such, getting the upgraded Gerry’s Fire instead of the original Gerry’s Fire is not a high priority.

Camo hotsauce bug

Camo bug with Gerry's Fire spirit. Faster Barrel Spin and Radar Scanner allows spirit camo detection but not Ninja

  • [31.0] Gerry's Fire spirit cannot detect camo if placed on a Ninja Monkey. Any other camo detecting tower (including direct placement on a Radar Scanner) allows the spirit to detect camo. In fact, the Ninja Monkey must require external camo detection (such as a nearby a Radar Scanner, Level 8+ Etienne's buff, or Geraldo's See Invisibility Potion) to let the spirit detect camo. Ninja Kiwi stated that this "bug" is actually intended as a result of only buffing self-buffing camo detection, but this has since been fixed in 40.0 to remove this quirk that has annoyed some players.

Gerry’s Fire functions in a unique way where it can inherit some self-buffing bonuses of the towers that it’s applied to, although a lot of people have pointed out that since Ninja Monkey always has Camo this means it’s the only non-hero tower that gains a Camo Detection but can never pass it on to the Gerry’s Fire as this doesn’t come from an upgrade. We were hesitant to buff this interaction while Geraldo was much more powerful and his synergy with Ninja was already good, but he’s cooled off enough now that we’re happy to try this out. Additionally with Gerry’s Fire one of our programmers was having some fun with it, and we liked what we saw, so that will also be a thing now.
~ Ninja Kiwi
  • BUFF Gerry's Fire now inherits camo detection from innate camo detectors (Ninja, Sauda, Psi, etc.).
  • Change Gerry's Fire now follows the actual flying Monkey Ace or Heli Pilot instead of their pads. Also affects other towers whose base tower is a flying tower. Does not affect other flying towers such as Etienne.

We feel the higher level of complexity of Geraldo (along with simply much greater effort required to produce heroes like this) places him up on an elite tier of heroes we don't necessarily want players to jump right into before learning the game more, as we previously announced at the end of last year his unlock cost is now being increased to reflect this. A number of Gerry's items are also being tweaked here along with a base placement cost increase as he is also overperforming in a number of ways compared to other heroes.

Trivia[]

  • It is the lowest-tier item that can allow Geraldo to do any form of Lead-Popping Power.
    • Because it is only unlocked at level 8, this means Geraldo is unable to afford it before round 28, thus making Geraldo 1 Tower CHIMPS impossible without map-based lead popping power, such as the crusher on Scrapyard.
  • Gerry's Fire's description makes mention of 'Bloonville units,' which is a reference to the Scoville scale, used to determine the overall 'hotness' of chili peppers and their products.
    • 2.8 million units, the value listed, would theoretically make Gerry's Fire hotter than the Carolina Reaper, one of the world's hottest chili peppers and Pepper X by a small margin, which became the world's hottest chili pepper in August 2023.
  • Because Sandbox Mode doesn't progress rounds, it is infinite in Sandbox Mode.
  • "Gerry's Fire" was named in tribute to English musician Gerry Marsden, the lead singer of the band Gerry and the Pacemakers, who passed away in 2021. Marsden played a pivotal role in the formation of Ninja Kiwi Europe (formerly known as Digital Goldfish) in 2012. He was also known to play the game between sets while on tour, earning him the affectionate nickname "Bloons Boy" from his bandmates.
  • It is possible to apply Gerry's Fire to Passive towers including Banana Farms and Banana Farmers. Doing so can add pop counts to each of them, with exception of Farm which gains no pop count.
    • There is a way to observe the pop count of the banana farm, but doing so requires it to have the most pops on screen, thus being displayed as the "Monkey Star" on the Victory Callouts.

Ninja Kiwi Blogs[]

  • According to Ninja Kiwi's 29th April 2022 blog, Gwendolin tried cooking with Gerry's Fire Hot Sauce but didn't consider it hot enough.
  • According to Ninja Kiwi's 31th March 2023 blog, Gerry's Fire spirits are hot-sauce spirits that enjoy taking the shape of "cute kitties".
