Boss Contested Territory rule popup

Destroy the Boss as quickly as possible to win the Tile. Based on the Boss Event, the timer starts when the Boss appears on screen. Contested Territory Bosses will either be Tier 1 only or Tier 1 & 2, depending on each Tile's round count. Concentrate on high damage towers, generate income if you can, and don't ignore the other Bloons!
~ Boss popup when first encountering this ruleset

Boss is a ruleset in Bloons TD 6. When playing with this ruleset, the game is set with Ranked Boss Bloon Event rules; beat the active Boss Bloon as fast as possible and avoid timer penalties. Powers (including any Relic Knowledge specific to Powers) are not disabled in this ruleset, unlike Time Attack or the standard Ranked Boss modes. Unlike most other CT rulesets, the Boss ruleset is guaranteed to only exist on Banner and Relic Tiles. Benjamin and Corvus are always restricted on Boss tilesets. On every CT event, there is guaranteed at least one tile for each Boss Bloon. Currently, the Boss Bloons available to fight on the Boss ruleset for Contested Territory are: Bloonarius, Lych, Vortex, Dreadbloon, and Phayze.

On Contested Territory, this ruleset only applies for up to Tier 1 or 2 for the Normal Boss variants. The player can set a timer score on unoccupied tiles. After killing the Boss at the final tier, the timer will stop but the current game will keep running until the last naturally occurring bloons of the current round are popped. The timer of an unoccupied Boss tile runs like a stopwatch, but runs like an actual timer on occupied Boss tiles. The aim is to get a low score (i.e. fastest time).

Special game conditions may apply to certain types of bosses. Specifically for Dreadbloon, there is guaranteed at least two tower types of at least one available classes, of which at least one tower type must be damage-centric (i.e. a combination such as just Farm + Village will not occur), and there must be at least three tower classes available. For Phayze, at least one of the tower types must have a decamo source.

Available Maps[]

In CT, all Boss tiles are guaranteed only on Beginner and Intermediate Maps, with some restrictions.

Strategy[]

Summary[]

Use strategies involved in Ranked Boss Bloon Event to get the best times possible. Farm very hard in the early rounds by greeding for early boosts in income. Look for high MOAB-class damage towers like Overdrive, and combine with bloon debuff towers (if any), to beat the boss itself, and pay attention to special boss properties to prepare other towers. Don't worry about Freeplay rules in Contested Territory, as only Tier 1 and 2 Normal Bosses need to be beaten.

Tips[]

  • Particularly useful Relic Knowledge for Boss typically allow for a bigger snowball of income and a heavy focus on efficiently beating Bosses.
  • On Contested Territory, only consider up to Tier 4 and 5 towers, and ignore Paragons. Because only Tier 1 and 2 Bosses are involved, and tower restrictions are heavy, attempting to save up for Paragons is almost certainly impossible.
  • On every Boss tile of Contested Territory, they will likely supply at least a few farming resources such as Banana Farms as part of the list of available towers. Use them to farm up cash in the saveup for the powerful blows to the Boss.
    • If there are no Banana Farms, choose another income generating option, some viable examples being Merchantman and Bloon Trap.
    • If all farming options are too expensive before Round 40 (e.g. Supply Drop, Jungle's Bounty without Farms, Support Chinook), focus on beating the Tier 1 Boss without income generators and only make use of farming in preparation for the Tier 2 Boss. If there is no Tier 2, just focus purely on defense.
    • If there are no farming options at all, focus entirely on survival rather than aiming for a top score.
    • Lead to Gold and Rubber to Gold are often overlooked farming options that can be valuable on tiles with no farms.
  • Unlike normal Boss Bloon Events, Elite Defender on Contested Territory is very strong against Gravelord Lych, because the Elite Defender can be placed very far away to avoid the Lych sapping, and Lych only receives infinite-ranged sapping at Tier 5, however the Boss ruleset for CT only applies up to Tier 2.
  • If the Boss tile is fortunate enough to allow a selectable hero, choose most valuable Hero, typically Geraldo for his cash generation and utility. Boss tiles restrict Benjamin to never appear. Most heroes that buff towers are not that great, but Pat Fusty, Ezili, Admiral Brickell + water towers, and Adora + Sun Avatars can be useful. Damage focused heroes (e.g. Quincy or Psi) are not recommended, as they don't deal much damage to the Boss, although Sauda can minimize early-game issues.
  • While it is possible to purchase a Paragon on a Boss tile, it is highly ill-advised because the money to get a paragon, even the Apex Plasma Master or Glaive Dominus, will almost always require waiting a few extra rounds, even for two tier tiles.
  • Although the aftertime from beating the final Boss tier is fairly short, it is still possible to lose during that aftertime. This is mostly a problem versus Bloonarius; after killing it extremely quickly, make sure to quickly switch to a defensive focus against any remaining rushes.
  • Be very cautious on Boss tiles containing Dreadbloon without viable farming options, as buy-and-resell action to afford mixed tower classes can be very expensive to afford.
  • Some Boss maps are very difficult to play on with its map formatting. Some notorious examples include Quiet Street and Spring Spring.

Bugs[]

Current

None (so far)

Patched
  • [39.0] (CT 31) Boss penalty timer begins 10 seconds into the round, resulting in an almost unavoidable penalty timer that snowballs as the rounds progress. Patched in 39.2.
  • [38.1] (CT 26) Boss tiles cannot be captured at all. Attempting to do so will either cause a Game Over on Round 41 or a never-ending tile if the boss is beaten before that round starts. Patched in 38.2.
  • [37.1] (Note: CT 23 cannot be played in 37.0) In Boss tiles, the final round that the final tier of Boss died must be beaten in order to win the battle.

Trivia[]

  • In Contested Territory #10 (the first version 34.0 CT event) and subsequent CT events, Dreadbloon: Armored Behemoth did not appear on any tiles. This is because Ninja Kiwi had yet to implement Dreadbloon into CT, which was delayed until Version 39.0 so they could also add in Reality Warper Phayze too. This has since arrived at Event #31 and beyond.
  • CT Event #32 marked the first time that one of the original 3 bosses was completely absent as a tile in a CT event, that being Lych.
    • Similarly, the following event (#33) marked the first time Bloonarius was completely absent as a tile in a CT event, leaving Vortex as the only boss to have at least one tile on the map in every CT event to date.
