Bomb Shooter is a Primary-class tower in Bloons TD 6 that shoots bombs. The tower retains its role from the Bloons TD 4, 5, and Classic game generations, but has changed its name from "Bomb Tower" along with other significant changes (though the tower was actually called Bomb Shooter in Bloons Monkey City). Like most Primary Monkeys, the Bomb Shooter was featured in a teaser prior to the game's release.

It uses slow firing, heavy bombs which deal area damage and naturally pop Lead Bloons. However, the base tower is useless against Black, Zebra, and DDTs due to their immunity to explosions, and it possesses the major weakness of having no upgrades that give Camo Detection to its main attack. Interestingly, both the Bloon Crush and MOAB Eliminator can directly pop Black Bloons with their explosions without need for Striker Jones Level 5+ or a MIB.

Bomb Shooters fire exploding bombs every 1.5s with a blast radius of 12. Bomb explosions pop up to 14 bloons each. Bomb Shooter can be upgraded to improve its explosive power, its respective paths granting massive bloon-stunning explosions, fast firing MOAB-destroying missiles, and clusters of grouped-popping explosions.

It costs $445 on Easy, $525 on Medium, $565 on Hard, and $630 on Impoppable.

Description[]

The Bomb Shooter was formerly known as the Bomb Tower. Just like in the preceding games, it shoots somewhat slowly, shooting one bomb at a time with a small explosion. Like the BTD4 and BTD5 counterparts, the base Bomb Shooter takes on the appearance of a traditional renaissance-style cannon with two wooden wheels, one on each side.

Compared to previous games, it now has considerably less popping power per explosion, though that pop limit change is less significant compared to other towers, such as that for the Ice Tower/Ice Monkey and Bloontonium Reactor, which previously had infinite pierce in BTD5 and earlier versions.

The first upgrade path for the Bomb Shooter deals with the size and quality of the bombs, eventually allowing the bombs to stun and push back bloons. Bigger Bombs increases blast radius and pierce of the explosions, while Heavy Bombs lets bombs deal extra damage to bloons. The Really Big Bombs combines the stat bonuses of the first two upgrades to produce huge damaging explosions that can push back bloons. Bloon Impact allows stunning of bloons and popping of any bloon type, while the Bloon Crush upgrade can stun and push back blimps and stuns regular bloons for much longer.

The second path makes the Bomb Shooter shoot missiles that can be made to deal more damage to MOAB-Class bloons. The Faster Reload upgrade increases attack speed of the Bomb Shooter by a fair amount. Like the earlier versions, Missile Launcher increases projectile speed, attack speed, and range of the Bomb Shooter, although it does not grant extra pierce. MOAB Mauler and MOAB Assassin upgrades both deal extra damage to blimps and ceramics, while the MOAB Assassin upgrade grants an ability to instantly deal extra damage to the strongest blimp. MOAB Eliminator increases that ability to deal even more damage with a shorter cooldown.

The third path deals with the quantity of the bombs and bombs that split into other bombs. The first two upgrades both provide extra range, with Extra Range providing purely extra range and Frag Bombs coming with a spray of 8 sharp fragments. Cluster Bombs changes the fragments into extra explosions for wider damage coverage, while Recursive Cluster allows those extra explosions to spray out extra explosions every other shot. Bomb Blitz increases damage plus the potential to deploy a global range explosion if lives are lost.

Target Priorities[]

The base Bomb Shooter uses the standard target priorities: First, Last, Close, Strong. Most of its attacks are dependent on its given target priority.

  • First: Targets the first bloon visible within its range.
  • Last: Targets the last bloon visible within its range.
  • Close: Targets the closest bloon visible within its range.
  • Strong: Targets the strongest bloon visible within its range.

MOAB Assassin and MOAB Eliminator abilities will always target on Strong, and Bomb Blitz's passive ability lacks a noticeable target priority because of its true infinite pierce and whole screen effects.

Effect: Deals 6 damage and plus 5 damage to Fortified per explosion, creates recursive explosions every shot, and gains a passive ability that deals an instant 2000 damage on screen and wipes out BFBs and below after losing a life.

Summary[]

Bomb Shooter is weak at its lower-tier upgrades but possesses many powerful explosive options at Tier 3 and above. It typically requires spam usage and high synergization to maximize its power. Many of its upgrades focus on utilizing its relatively high pierce for clearing out dense groups of bloons. Bomb Shooter synergizes well with Striker Jones, who specifically buffs various stats of Bomb Shooters.

Tips[]

  • Bomb Shooter set on Close in an area of congregating bloons, such as the tight loop on Resort, allows it to be usable as an early-game start, taking advantage of its pierce.

We're really excited about the recent rise in Bomb fame, and we want to encourage this by buffing some of the detracting parts of Bomb Shooters. But larger groups of basic T3 Maulers are now performing far too well against everything when they are intended to be more of a MOAB Specialist. This change means little in the early game, but should pull these groups back a little in more higher round gameplay.

Some low tier Bomb pierce has been shifted further up into the 2xx Heavy Bombs upgrade to effectively nerf 130 Mauler meta in price, but the price of these upgrades and MOAB Damage of T4 Maulers have both been buffed to benefit other variations of bomb better. Bloon Impact's price was increased as it didn't need to benefit from this buff, and a buff was made to 502's Bloon Impact's frags to alter this underused crosspath.

In some cases the effort to make upgrades feel powerful eclipsed the need for monkey tower weaknesses to be supported by path or other tower synergies. Reviewing the state of White compared to Black Bloons we feel it no longer makes sense for Bomb stall path to ignore inherent Bomb weakness compared to Ice, which can't fully get around it's weakness until T5. MOAB Maulers have been a very strong meta spam for a while now, so we are chipping off most of its ceramic bonus at T3.

While MOAB Maulers are a current popular meta the base bomb shooter is unaffordable early on for the little contribution it can make at early levels when not much pierce is really needed, so some cost has been moved out of the base upgrade and into the Mauler with an overall price increase to Mauler. We've acknowledged that Frag Bombs have felt like an inconsistent crosspath both in what they add to the tower and what they lose when upgraded further on their own path, so now in addition to frags popping Black Bloons xx2+ will allow all attacks from the tower to pop Black.

We wanted to add something unique to Bloon Impact while also improving Really Big Bombs very slightly as a stepping stone into it, so now both of these upgrades will become capable of pushing back Bloons that they hit – even if they are stunned or frozen! This allows Bloon Impact to now catch groups of Bloons in a stun net and slowly push them back the way they came while keeping them stunned. Recursive Cluster is also having the pierce of the recursions increased a little again; while we felt it needed a nerf earlier, the amount cut from it last time was too high.

Slight price reduction to Really Big Bombs, it is meant to be a stepping stone upgrade into Bloon Impact but neither of these upgrades are standout right now. A while ago Frag Bombs was reworked to give Bomb normal type damage however we were not happy with the results of that change in the end, we didn’t want to go back and remove that again without giving back something nice in return so it has taken a while but now we have decided to go ahead with changing that back along with swapping out Recursive fortified damage for raw damage which we hope also improves crosspathing as the damage crosspath isn’t such a large increase over the base damage anymore.
