Rapidly sucks up and shreds bloons, spitting what's left out the back.
~ In-game description

Bloonchipper is a Tower that debuted in Bloons TD 5 Deluxe, and was later released on Bloons TD 5 Mobile, Bloons Monkey City Mobile, and Bloons TD Battles Mobile. It attacks by sucking up bloons, popping a single layer, and spitting the remainders of the bloons back out, likely to be sucked up again. The amount of layers popped, speed of its sucking, and maximum suction capacity can be increased by the upgrades.

The Bloonchipper's primary purpose is to stall Bloons in their track by sucking them, spat bloons are briefly vulnerable to towers before they land on their path continuing their travel.

Bloonchipper can damage and hold up to 3-4 bloons simultaneously before it gets stuck no longer sucking anymore until the bloons inside are spat out. This usually happens when Bloonchipper sucks in Ceramic Bloons inside not releasing them before their shell is destroyed, spitting resulting Rainbow Bloons. Triple Barrel Upgrade increases its capacity to 9-12 Bloons meaning it can hold many more bloons.

In Monkey City it is unlocked by defending the special tile - Bloonprint Hideout.

Bloonchipper also makes a cameo appearance in Bloons TD 6 on the map Scrapyard.

Bloons TD 6[]

Bloonchipper is only really seen as a mistake due to the way it ended up being balanced, it's a very hard tower to balance well and still be fun to play and there are some regrets about adding it into the Blooniverse.
~ Ninja Kiwi, 7th August 2020 blog
Bloonchipper btd6 scrapyard cameo

Bloonchipper's only physical appearance, shown in BTD6

Ninja Kiwi states that they have no plans to add back Bloonchipper as a playable tower to any games in the Bloons TD 6 Generation. There are multiple instances throughout history of their resistance to adding it back, from introduced lore about the abandonment of Bloonchipper to serious responses about its fundamental design flaws. However, in an older blog, Ninja Kiwi stated that Bloonchipper would theoretically be in the Support Monkeys class.

Bloonchipper makes a cameo appearance on the BTD6 map Scrapyard as a discarded item. It sits in a pile of mud. It cannot be interacted with, only sitting there stationary.

Although the Bloonchipper has been officially been made obsolete in the BTD6 Generation by Ninja Kiwi (but not in the BTD5 Generation), many of the Bloonchipper's attacking styles still have remnants scattered across some attacking styles from other towers.

  • The first of these reminiscent vestiges of the Bloonchipper is Pat Fusty's Big Squeeze ability, which mostly acts as a replacement for Super Wide Funnel, pulverizing the outer layer of the strongest visible MOAB-class bloon (except BADs and Boss Bloons) within range and stunning its offspring.
  • Psi utilizes an attacking style that relies on targeting only specific bloon types, in which Psi exponentially increases their overall popping power by gaining the power to target and instantly destroy increasingly stronger bloon types. Like the Bloonchipper from BTDB Mobile, Psi requires upgrades to allow the destruction of heavier bloons. Psi cannot target Leads or target Ceramics until they reach Levels 5+ and 7+, respectively, and can only starting targeting MOABs at Level 14+, BFBs at Level 17+, and ZOMGs and DDTs at maximum level.
  • Beast Handler, the second newly added Support Monkey and the first brand new tower type to be added an update of the game Bloons TD 6, contains various upgrades that imply that the Beast Handler is the successor of the Bloonchipper. Instead of being an autonomous machine, the Beast Handler controls beasts that attack the bloons. Almost all upgrades from the Beast Handler involve combinations of the Bloonchipper’s attack styles (e.g. targeting of specific bloon types, bloon stalling, forced repositioning of Bloons, and quick attack speeds that focus upon one or few targets at a time) in some way shape or form.
    • Giant Condor is capable of nearly infinitely stalling up to BFBs while slowly damaging them in the process, similarly to Bloonchipper's Super Wide Funnel.
    • Orca instakills up to BFBs, or up to ZOMGs and DDTs at max power, in a similar manner to the Super Wide Funnel having no weakness against singular targets, provided the lethal attack can trigger on them. (In BTDB Mobile, MOAB-class bloons are always expelled further along the track after being spat out, whereas in other games they always land on the same spot.)
    • Megalodon instakills up to BADs, capped at a specific amount of RBE. This resembles the power of the Super Wide Funnel having no single-target weaknesses aside from Boss Bloons, except rebalanced to not exponentially increase its value in Freeplay.
    • Although stuns from the Chipper are only available via Tier 3+ Al's Custom Chippers, the capability to stun bloons returns in Tyrannosaurus Rex's Stomp ability.

Differences Between BTD5 Deluxe and BTD5 Mobile[]

Like the Monkey Engineer, the Bloonchipper only appears in Bloons Tower Defense 5 Deluxe, and all mobile versions of the Bloons TD franchise. However, there are a few differences between the Chipper in BTD5 Deluxe and in the mobile versions of the games.

  • BUFF Triple Barrel costs less ($6000 → $4500).
  • BUFF If Al's Custom Chippers tier 3 upgrade is active, Super Wide Funnel can stun M.O.A.B. Class Bloons.
  • NERF Super Wide Funnel takes twice as long to damage M.O.A.B. Class Bloons while being sucked in (3.25 seconds → 6.5 seconds as a 4/0 and 2.7 seconds → 5 seconds as a 4/2).

Version History (Bloons TD Battles Mobile)[]

The Bloonchipper was considered to be one of the best and most used towers in the game, along with the Dart Monkey and the Banana Farm. This is due to its amazing MOAB and spaced Bloon popping power, and stalling capabilities in the late game. Due to its domination in competitive play, it has been heavily nerfed via game updates. Update 3.1 considerably increased the price of Super Wide Funnel, one of the most used upgrades for the Bloonchipper, while Update 3.2 nerfed Super Wide Funnel again by making it release MOAB-class Bloons a short distance further along the track instead of where they were sucked in, and increased the price of Supa-Vac. Update 3.4 made the Bloonchipper weaker against Ceramic Bloons due to it now requiring the Heavy Duty Suction upgrade to suck them in, and noticeably hindered its stalling capabilities in the late game thanks to B.F.Bs and Z.O.M.Gs not being affected by Supa-Vac as long, and update 3.9 increased the price of Supa-Vac again.

The most detrimental update, however, was Update 4.1. While said update only brought about 2 nerfs, the removal of both Super Wide Funnel and Supa-Vac being able to affect Z.O.M.Gs was more than considerable enough to counter the price reductions both upgrades received.

Overall, the Bloonchipper is a lot worse compared to how it was when it was first added to the game, with players no longer considering it one of the best towers in the game and having stopped using it (many players now consider it to be one of the worst towers in the game due to its numerous weaknesses), replacing it with other towers such as the Bomb Tower, and the Monkey Ace as a result.

The only popular loadouts that uses the Bloonchipper post 4.1 is Wizard Farm Chipper and Tack Village Chipper. However, as of version 6.11, Dart Farm Chipper has been able to go late game in Mega Cash/Bananza gamemodes.

Early versions
  • BUFF Supa-Vac ability can now suck in MOAB-class Bloons.
3.1
  • NERF Super Wide Funnel price increased ($4500 → $8000).
3.2
  • NERF Super Wide Funnel now releases MOAB-class Bloons a short distance farther along the track instead of where they were sucked in at.
  • NERF Supa-Vac price increased ($6000 → $10000).
3.4
  • NERF Heavy Duty Suction is now required to suck up Ceramic Bloons.
  • NERF Supa-Vac now only holds B.F.Bs in place for 4 seconds and Z.O.M.Gs for 2 seconds.
3.7
  • BUFF Triple Barrel price decreased ($4500 → $3000).
3.9
  • NERF Supa-Vac price increased ($10000 → $13000).
4.1
The 'Chipper has become a staple in a lot of high-end load-outs with it's Supa-Vac ability being super effective in dealing with MOAB class rushes. We found this to be a little too reliable, causing a lot of games to become a bit of a stalemate. Changing the ability and the Super Wide Funnel so they no longer affect ZOMGs should encourage players to explore other options!
~ "BTD Battles Update 4.1 - Big Balance Changes Incoming!"
  • NERF Super Wide Funnel can no longer suck in Z.O.M.Gs.
  • NERF Supa-Vac can't hold Z.O.M.Gs in place anymore.
  • BUFF Super Wide Funnel price decreased ($8000 → $7000).
  • BUFF Supa-Vac price decreased ($13000 → $10000).
4.9
Since making ZOMGs immune to the 'Chipper's Super Wide Funnel, we've reduced the price to bring it more in line with the power of the upgrade.
~ "BTD Battles Update 4.9 Balance Changes"
  • BUFF Super Wide Funnel price decreased ($7000 → $5500).

6.18
  • BUFF Dual Layer Blades damage per shred increased (2 → 3)
  • Change Dual Layer Blades is now renamed as Triple Layer Blades

Bugs[]

  • When the Bloonchipper is placed near the start of a map, it will no longer work properly and instead suck nothing.
  • Sometimes it will pop all layers of bloon.
  • When there are a lot of MOAB's, BFB's, or ZOMG's with a 4-2 Bloonchipper, some MOABs and Ceramic Bloons can be seen flying off the edge of the screen.
  • Can be slowed down by MOAB class bloons.
  • In BTD Battles, if the Bloonchipper sucks a MOAB-class bloon with a Beefy Moabs ability, it will only show that it sucks the MOAB but not it's armor.

Trivia[]

  • Although the Bloonchipper is not in the browser version of BTD5, its sprites, files, and sprites of MOAB class bloons being sucked inside can be found via flash decompiler. It might mean it was once planned to be added, but it wasn't added before the Flash version was discontinued.
  • If a bloon that was just spat out by a Bloonchipper is hit by something that blows back bloons, the bloon will rapidly fly to a random location on the map.
  • One upgraded 4/2 Bloonchipper can reduce a Z.O.M.G. to just a few B.F.B.s and M.O.A.B.s in a very short amount of time.
  • Bloons being shredded inside a Bloonchipper will sometimes be targeted by towers. This can be frustrating because most of those towers will miss. However, faster towers, or towers that deal splash or AOE damage may hit them.
  • Regen Bloons take much longer to pop as they regenerate inside the bloonchipper.
    • When upgraded to 3/2 it works much better against Regen Bloons.
    • This strategy can be used for short-time regen farming.
  • The Super Wide Funnel Upgrade can suck 4 Ceramic Bloons at the same time.
  • When a Bloonchipper sucks up a Ceramic Bloon, it will not spit it out until the entire ceramic shell is popped, regardless of upgrades.
    • Even when upgraded to Dual Layer Blades, the ceramics will be shredded for 10 times before ejecting.
    • This also shows that Bloonchippers do not have an infinite number of Bloons that they can hold at a time, as they will stop sucking in Bloons if they have vacuumed up too many Ceramic Bloons at a time. This limit is usually not evident as Bloon shredding otherwise happens almost instantly.
  • 500 damage is dealt to M.O.A.B. Class Bloons inside a 4-X Bloonchipper.
  • Corrosive Glue will damage the bloons while in the Bloonchipper.
  • A Bloonchipper-only defence, even if ignoring lack of camo detection, can fail on rounds like 42, where Rainbow Regen Bloons will regenerate into more Rainbow Regen Bloons and plow through the defenses.
  • The Bloonchipper can deal insane amounts of damage when combined with a Glaive Riccochet or a Cluster Bombs.
    • This combination will also eliminate the Bloonchipper's weakness, because even though regen bloons are multiplied through the Bloonchipper, each Glaive Ricochet or Cluster Bomb will pop at least one layer off each bloon, regardless of the number of bloons. Watch out for camo bloons though since neither tower can pop them without support or in the case of Glaive Ricochet upgrading to Glaive Lord.
  • The presence of the V6 Engine next to Al's Custom Chippers suggests that Bloonchippers are powered by a V6 engine.
  • Due to Dual Layer Blades, when the tower destroys a MOAB-class bloon, only three of its children will be ejected; the last one will be the new victim of the tower.
  • When the Supa-Vac ability is used with a 0/4 or 1/4 Bloonchipper, the ability will thaw a frozen Lead Bloon but not suck it in.
Bloonchipper in bananafarms

What the result should be after the process of putting a Bloonchipper to the center of four surrounding Banana Farms

  • In Bloons Monkey City Mobile, there's a Special Mission where the player must recover some blueprints that allow the construction of the Bloonchipper. However, no Bloonchipper is found in the track. To unlock it, the player must complete the mission, and then the Bloonchipper will become available.
  • A Bloonchipper can fit in the center of four Banana Farms. To do so, buy three and place in the L form, then carefully place the Bloonchipper in the centre of the farms, finally place one more farm to form a larger square shape as shown in the picture. This is useful when you have a Tier 4 Al's Custom Chippers to collect the bananas.
  • Bloonchipper is one of the towers currently not released to BTD6(along with the COBRA), and it has been confirmed that the Bloonchipper will not be brought back in any manner.
    • This makes it currently the only tower to not return from BTD5.
    • As stated from the 21st July 2020 blog, one of the things Ninja Kiwi regrets making is the Bloonchipper.
  • The Bloonchipper is based off the Woodchipper, a machine used to shred wood into tiny pieces.
  • According to Ninja Kiwi's 18th February 2022 blog, Bloonchippers are one of many cleanup crew members for cleaning up after battle.

Bloons TD 6 (Trivia)[]

  • There are many references to Ninja Kiwi expressing their will not to add Bloonchipper into Bloons TD 6.
    • According to Ninja Kiwi's 3rd September 2021 blog, Bloonchipper is stated in lore form to have abandoned the monkeys' side.
  • Pat Fusty's Big Squeeze ability acts like Super Wide Funnel, sucking up blimps as strong as ZOMG and DDT (if visible).
  • Psi is similar to Bloonchipper in a way due to their initial inability to target Leads, Ceramics, and MOAB-class bloons until leveling up. Also, they cannot target the strongest bloons in the game, akin to Super Wide Funnel in Bloons TD Battles Mobile against ZOMGs, as well as the same upgrade in both Bloons Monkey City Mobile and Bloons TD 5 Mobile (including Steam and Console ports) versus Boss Bloons.
  • Bloonchipper makes a cameo on Scrapyard, where a discarded one lays in a pile of junk.
    • Ninja Kiwi confirmed on their July 1st 2022 blog that the Bloonchipper that is found in Scrapyard was not needed.
  • The Bloonchipper, alongside the COBRA, both do not make an appearance as a fully upgradable tower in the Bloons TD 6 Generation, despite their presence in the Bloons TD 5 Generation.
  • According to Ninja Kiwi's 25th November 2022 blog, Bloonchippers are hardly cleaned at all in BTD6 and BTDB2, in contrast to in BTD5 Generation where they get cleaned very often.
