“ | Missile seeks target within range and does extra MOAB and Ceramic damage. | ” |
~ BTDB2 description |
Ballistic Missile is the 3rd upgrade of Path 2 for the Monkey Sub in Bloons TD Battles 2. It is considerably different to its BTD6 counterpart where the Bloons TD Battles 2 version generally has more damage, but less pierce and attack speed. This upgrade adds ballistic missiles that shoot above the sky and crash onto target bloons on screen, accurately hitting targets without subjecting to projectile expiry. These ballistic missiles trigger within increased range (from 42 to 50). Once a bloon is detected in range, a missile is fired, following its target according to target priority. Adding Advanced Intel lets missiles trigger at any tower's range.
Each ballistic missile deals 2 damage each, deals an extra +5 damage versus Ceramics and MOAB-class, have 50 pierce each, and are shot every 1.10s (every 0.99s with Twin Guns, and every 0.891s with Airburst Darts). The blast radius for a ballistic missile is 18 units radius. It takes 0.6s for the missile to travel between launch and hitting its target.
It costs $1,600, and is unlocked with the purchase of Monkey Sub.
Strategy[]
Summary[]
A low-cost option for handling MOABs, crushing Ceramics, and for accurate grouped bloon damage. It is very cost-efficient at dealing with Round 11-16 bloon rushes, and is particularly powerful against Grouped Purples and Grouped Rainbows. It also helps versus MOAB and Ceramic rushes on R16-19, as well as chipping damage to BFBs and Fortified BFBs.
Tips[]
- 0-3-2 and 2-3-0 have different use cases depending on needs. 0-3-2 improves DPS within short range, while 2-3-0 increases range of the missiles to reach important targets from further.
- 0-3-2 is generally preferred for an optimally faster rate of ballistic missiles over a short range, in addition to the benefit of the 5-pierce airbursts. 2-3-0 is better for hitting MOABs and its children in Rounds 17-19, as its missiles can attack from a wide range.
Bugs[]
- Current
none (so far)
- Patched
- [1.0.6?, 1.0.8 for sure] Ballistic Missiles upgraded to 0-3-2 cannot produce airburst darts. Likely fixed in 1.2.0 (definitely fixed in 1.5.0).
Version History[]
A strong grouped value option since Version 1.0.6 and general meta of Sub in the game has made Ballistic Missile be a target for a DPS nerf in Version 1.5.0 and 1.6.0, particularly with the oppressive Druid-Sub-Farm meta between Version 1.4.0 and 1.5.1.
- Initial release (compared to BTD6 during Version 28.0)
- Released

- Note: Ninja Kiwi's statements of "attack rate" are consistently written as attack cooldown reduction values.

Trivia[]
- Ballistic Missile's half pierce and base 2 damage implemented in BTDB Version 1.6.0 resembles the BTD6 Juggernaut rework in BTD6 Version 23.0.
